had she gone too far? from the way the torchic had been completely blown away, seasalt is pretty sure that's the definition of going too far. she hadn't meant to actually hurt the bird pokemon, but from the way the fire type falls, it seems that her intent hadn't worked out.

now she does feel like crying. at the pokemon's question, she pauses, trying to get her voice under control before she answers. it only works a little, because as soon as she starts to speak, the guilt sets in full force again. "i'm not sure. i really didn't mean to."

seasalt inhales again, and it may have been a sigh or something like it were it not for how strangled it sounded, and when she speaks up again her voice is a borderline wail as she fights back tears. "i'm really, really sorry!"

wow. this was awkward-

before eve can even think about leaving just as abruptly as they had shown up, a scream cuts through from the dining room, and they freeze- as, it seems from the sudden silence, does everyone else.
[break][break]
the tension doesn't last long, however, before a group of ghost pokemon are opening the doors to the dining hall. okay. okay- that probably answered the question of the scream, right? and the food smells good- it's easy enough to get swept up in the crowd heading for the best selections without a second thought about the ghost pokemon or the scream. they were sure the clever thing to do was just ignore it and get the fuck out of dodge if things went south.

as they pick up something that resembles a meat kebab, they're joined by someone else; and they almost elbow the someone else, with the pressing bodies around them. "sorry. it's- crowded." they do a vague wave with the kebab, and then, as a second thought, pile another on their plate.

it seems like seasalt's confusion only serves to better anger the torchic standing in front of her, from the way it hops from one foot to the other in some pre-battle tactic. completely at a loss of what to do, she risks a glance at the entrance of the center, hoping her trainer- or someone else- will come to the rescue.

but she's alone, and the torchic, consistently angry, only grows offended at her denial before releasing a flamethrower vertically into the air. twisting to keep an eye on the bird pokemon, seasalt hopes for a split-second savior in the next few seconds. when one doesn't come, she makes up her mind.

as much as she dislikes it, she's going to have to handle this on her own.
[break][break]
"fine. i'll fight you." it's a resigned sigh, and as soon as the words leave her, she's aiming a bubble beam at the red bird pokemon. the sooner she wins this, the sooner she can be left alone to relax, right? right.

they're not used to this sort of thing.

if eve had thought twice about it, they probably wouldn't have shown up at all. but here they were, fashionably late, and a feathered mask hiding their face. from what they can tell, the manor is already full- of a bunch of strangers, no less. and a ghost type that seems intent on making sure their mask is up to standard.

what is the standard? they don't know, themself, but the ghost pokemon seems to decide it's fine and leaves them to sweep into the room just beyond-and to make a beeline for the drinks. they're not sure they know anyone here, so they may as well enjoy it, right?

and if their nose crinkles when they realize how strong wine smells, at least the mask hides it.

she had been expecting to be put in the care of another. it didn't happen often, but it had enough that she knew what to expect.

or she thought she did, anyways. there was always an outlier, though, and this time it came in the form of a torchic. a very angry torchic. an extremely angry torchic, apparently, who demands to fight her without any other warning beyond making eye contact.

"what?" seasalt is sure the surprise on her face is obvious, and she blinks at the offending fire type for a moment or two, trying to wrap her head around how this would be normal in any world. "no?"
