the intel sounds too good to be true. in all of his years, there has never been a moment where the galarian ex-soldier had considered an opportunity to come face-to-face with the unknown. alas, to this point, his life had been all too linear, treading down a straight line towards impending doom. but like any others, eustace will be vying to delay that semingly logic-defying fate for as long as he humanly can. even in the wake of his unceremonious dismissal from the force he proudly served, he stands firm in this daunting realm, anticipating the unthinkable.[break][break]

and perhaps, the otherwise impossible...[break][break]

as per the commanding officer's instructions, the group splits into the two at one point in the crater -- two objectives potential leading to the apex of a common pinnacle of much-sought-after success. and yet, in order to achieve said success a collaboration is needed, but not in the form of a private consult in a dark room. rather, with the a portion of the folk that he's been providing armed services to. so long as he can survive this ordeal in one piece (hopefully), then there'd be no complaints.[break][break]

"burn them all down..."[break][break]

eustace commands his hotheaded hound; waves of flame spread about, blowing back bunches of miniscule paper-like beings in the process. through the flames, the man and his dark beckoning beast traverse forward - the first step of what may appear to be many in the quest to secure a prize of astronomical proportions.

how on this forsaken planet did this man get roped into following a path dictated by signs that could potentially lead to nothing? this is one of many questions stirring the melting pot that is eustace vasiliou's battle-hardened mind. and what if neither he nor the one who somehow mananged to goad him into this expedition would ultimately find nothing of note in light of the rumors floating about across the region? in any case, the galarian ex-soldier would rather be off somewhere in the shadows cast by his own frame, making deals where not many other men would dare to travel.[break][break]

he'd be lying if he were to say that he hadn't been just a tad curious about this unorthodox ordeal. "then let us hope that the translations will suffice." perhaps any ordinary explorer were to rely on more than a mere scrap of scripted text, much of it which the information gathered may not be entirely accurate. in hindsight, it's better than going in blind, unprepared. thus, at the very least, he'd at offer them an pinch of credit.[break][break]

his trusted companion, a houndoom, shoots forward and begins to sniff around for hints of the aforementioned sigils. "it appears that we're close..."

tracks were made to be followed, but they were also made to be covered. but what were the odds of a pokémon possessing the capability of conducting the latter? better than the average human could hypthesize, really. eustace dispatched his houndoom to pickup the scent lingering around the footsteps he spotted in front of them. back and forth, the dark canine went, sniffing every nook and cranny of the soils of whence they stand. he'd rather not want to get his own hands dirtied unless a peculiar situation would unquestionably call for it.[break][break]

but the ex-soldier would not be along in this endeavor. in a rare case of a request taken on by way of humble charity, so he so would claim to be oftentimes, eustace was asked to rendezvous with a fellow comrade in arms, and together they were to investigate and ultimately weed out a few thorns in rocket's sides. a familiar aroma wafts over the houndoom's nose however. the dark beast swiftly maneuvered through tall greens, with his trainer tailing behind. the figurative curtains were pulled back to reveal...[break][break]

"lovely to see you as well, silverwolf."[break][break]

the one who has affectionately dubbed him as 'bladie'. a smile slanted on rogueish features, his houndoom daring to step forward to her and the pokémon accopanying her, sniffing about all the while. judging by her presence, he could only assume that she's here for the same reason as he. "indeed, they did. i was also told that i'd be having some company on this directive; perhaps i should've expected it to be you."[break][break]

and honestly, there was a not a single other soul in hoenn that he'd prefer over her.[break][break]

"two phantoms...?" he repeated as hands shuffled across his frames, ensuring that he'd been well-readied for the impending operation. upon identifying the woman and her companion as friendlies, the houndoom would soon return to his trainer's side, awaiting directions. silverwolf was all business, which was what he liked most about her after all. "lead the way, if you please..."

eustace had lived for galar, and had he been permitted to stay there, he would have more than likely died for it as well. suppose the same can be said about their nobility, for they represent their respective region to a higher degree. that is to say, as if that truly matters to the ex-soldier now. alas, no honor would come to those such as this arms specialist who has fallen out of the ranks -- only shame and scrutiny were a fate said to be deserved.[break][break]

"so you do know me..."[break][break]

on these lands, neither shame nor scrutiny are being offered, not by this woman at least. at the mention of his name recited in her voice, he returns his gaze to her. perhaps there was some recognition to be had after all, and with that, his attention to the princess is renewed. "you flatter me, your highness. i do not recall doing anything of note during my time of service. regardless, your kind words are most appreciated..."[break][break]

meanwhile, a wicked pokémon donning leaves for hands creeps behind the royal, only to be sniffed out by the former army man's houndoom and crunched. shuffling with his sleeves and collar to readjust his frame all the while, eustace indulges in princess elise's presense -- if only for a short while. "but what of you? if i may ask so boldly, what brings you to hoenn?"

of course she wouldn't know of him, for as long as he stood in service to their nation, he was nothing more than a pawn on the galarian nobility's chess board -- continuously dispatched forward on a never-ending mission to defend their land, only for him to be cast out by the very same folk who had enlisted him in the beginning. how ironic; the ones who sought him out as a capable soldier were ultimately the same who thought of him as a potential threat to their own kind.[break][break]

ruthless aggression...[break][break]

was but one of many accusations in that regard, and yet like the skin on a feral snake, eustace sheds them all off. meanwhile, a shady grasshopper seeks to get the jump on the ex-soldier and his hound. the canine instinctively retaliates with an emphatic thunder fang to put the lokix down in literal shock, leaving it open for eustace to cleanly secure it, and possibly keep as his one of his own minions. through all that, however, the question of how to present himself to this woman lingers.[break][break]

"i know this may be rather sudden..."[break][break]

broad hands move to dust off his casual attire, then beady, sparkling eyes return their gaze to the royal. "you may not know of me, but i know of you, for i had once served the people of galar - and you - some time ago. alas, none of that matters now...apologies for this disturbance..."[break][break]

he averts his eyes from her, the houndoom eying his trainer with a stern yet quizzical look that bleeds concern. his mind fills quickly with doubt -- suppose he should not have come here, after all...

time waits for no man.[break][break]

evidently enough, time does not wait for a nationwide crisis to develop either. in the midst of two forces clashing on the grounds of one seeking dominance over the other, one man in particularly elects to remain hidden amongst the shadows cast by the blinding lights poking through clouds of uncertainty. hoenn is drowning in a sea of war, meaning that eustace's services would be required more so than ever before. naturally, one would be willing to do what they feel is necessary for survival.[break][break]

the odds of survival at this stage in the game have generally been measured as 'slim to none', which is all the more reason that someone would want to get their hands on as many supplies as possible -- especially those that can provide means of ammunition. here, along the routes connecting to fortree, a city currently lacking a definitive symbol of hope for its people, the ex-soldier finds himself scouting the tall greens with his dark canine partner in tow. a houndoom proceeds to survey their surroundings with its sharp nose, until...[break][break]

"what...?"[break][break]

the dog's ear catch on to faint sounds of footsteps nearby, those not belonging to neither he nor his trainer, and moves to begin tracking them. lo and behold, eustace pulls a bunch of lush of greens back to reveal...the one he least expected to encounter, and in vastly foreign region, no less...[break][break]

"princess...?!"

EUSTACE ARISTIDIS VASILIOU

OVERVIEW

Hailing from the rocking town of Spikemuth, Eustace Aristidis Vasiliou was once a warrior fighting for the people of Galar, enlisted as a mere foot soldier for just a few short years. Before that though, his upbringing is unclear. But one thing is clear, and it's that he was born a fighter through and through. An avid pokémon battler in his own right, housing a strong preference for dark-types, although he never bothered to seek out success in that manner -- not that he ever really needed to anyhow.

By way of his demeanor, once upon a time, Eustace was suspected of possessing a form of 'killer instinct' that was not normalized by military standards, and thus, he was involuntarily discharged on account of what was said to be mental instability. This left him to fend for himself, using the knowledge gained during his enlistment to craft various wares and eventually earn a sizeable profit from them. This service has since been extended within the presence of Team Rocket.

With old comrades lost in Galar, new alliances are now forged in Hoenn.

With the shadows of war casting over the land, Eustace is primarily focused on providing his services, particularly his expertise in the weaponry he once utilized as a fighter for a negotiable price, wherever possible. His allegiance to Team Rocket may be evident in that sense, dealing arms to those whom he could detect resolve in -- when it comes to attaining gains by any means necessary, that is. Naturally, in a similar manner, he's ready and willing to offer said aid to Rockets leading the charge in their quest to rule over Hoenn, and provide support for their own personal endeavors as well.

Keiko Nakamura - A fellow Rocket, met during his days of enlistment. Eustace learned a great deal from Keiko over the years, particularly the art of survival. Her allegiance is made clear through actions rather than words -- an aspect in which, over time, the ex-soldier has grown to admire. In his eyes, he views the huntress as a reason that his conscience has managed to remain stable after his discharge; a mentor, although he dares to say that she's essentially family to him. Affectionately nicknamed "Bladie" by her.
