pluto the zorua was, in no uncertain terms, not very good at the landscaping side of things. neither was her trainer, unless you counted stealing things from the rich landscaping. not that the fox pokemon understood or even cared about that- right now, though, she did care about the fact that she had seemingly been left in the middle of nowhere while her trainer was off doing who-knows what.

there's a bristle in her fur that she hopes tells the other pokemon to stay far away as she paces, a bit impatiently, in front of the few closest ones. in the end, it's boredom rather than a desire to help that leads her to turn on her heel suddenly and direct a few fury swipes to the landscape, hoping to unlodge something. or, better yet, to try to work out some of that remaining frustration at being left behind like this.

in any other world, sammie would have suspected that the stranger was sleeping and just gone on with this job. in any other world, sammie would have high-tailed it out of that mansion the second he saw saw someone in that bed. in any other world, he wouldn't have even said anything to draw attention to himself.

he's not in any of those worlds, and the stranger knows he's there. the stranger doesn't turn, but he can tell. he's usually better at these things- he knows when he should leave. he knows when it would be easier. but something rebels against him, and he doesn't, or he can't, or he won't. he's not sure which it is yet, until the stranger speaks.

her voice, her way of speaking, is familiar and so different at the same time that it sends a sudden pang in sammie's heart. but it's not her, because there's nothing for her here. it's not her because sammie won't let himself think that it is, even for a second. he thinks he'd rather deny it than acknowledge what should be in front of him.

"next time i'll give a heads up." his voice is still hushed, lower than what it should be, and he glances between this ~~not~~ stranger and the door, trying to gauge his chances. trying to figure out if it's even still worth it at all.

sammie didn't usually do this. this, of course, being breaking into a house while people in the next few rooms are partying. she can count the ways it could go decently on one hand, and the ways it could go horribly wrong could only be counted if she made a list.

but she wasn't a quitter, and her source of info had been helpful enough to tell her where she could find a good way to get in. the room was empty, and it was far enough away from the party and close enough to what she needed that the risk of it was worth it.

the room itself is dark, and the window is left open in what's the blatant brag of hah! we have more money than we know what to do with and can replace everything that sammie has ever seem. if there had been any chance of her feeling bad about this, it was washed away just as quickly.

[break][break]

getting in the window was the hard part, and even that requires just a little bit of wiggling. it's only when she's halfway through, a leg swung on the inside of the room, that her eyes adjust to the darkness and she freezes- and not only is she not alone, from the human-shaped lump on the bed, but there are a few pokemon lounging about the room.

"shit." it's barely audible, even to herself, but she doesn't think it would matter either way- her arrival is already obvious enough.

should she get out of this safely, she decides, she's going to teach her informant what it's like to live with a neck brace for months.
