Seems like it could be handy… But not just yet.” She stayed her hand, but a sympathetic smile tried to stem the bug’s disappointment. “You’re on the right track, though! We might get one later, though.” That, she hoped, was enough to keep the Volcarona content. It was always hard to tell with bug beasts.

[attr="class","athread"]Another trip to Ignis had summoned another lilac fox. Not that Annie was complaining – a rare enemy meant better rewards, and she needed all the ones that she could get. What she couldn’t have guessed about the Ninetales’ attacks from reality, she’d learned from her last encounter with one. Just as it had before, the kitsune charged a Will-O-Wisp, but the warrior cared little for it. Instead, Accelerock (which was quickly becoming her favourite move) sent her flying forward to greet the mob with a super-effective strike, sending it rolling dangerously close to the pool of lava.

There was a split-second in which Annie reconsidered her next move. In the real world, she wouldn’t dare to be so cruel… But in a role-playing game… No, Annie told herself. She was better than that. And more importantly, she wasn’t sure that she’d be able to retrieve the drops from lava. The Ninetales was given a respectful death by the blade, instead of a humiliating shove into the pool.

Water under the bridge.” It most definitely wasn’t, judging by the avatar’s face, but an overly-sweet tone hoped to balance that out. “You and me, we could be friends, you know? I’m pretty good with swords. And at the game, according to the leader board. You and me could make even bigger waves together, if you’ll come along. Sounds like fun, right?” The Honedge’s movements, or lack thereof, would serve as its answer.

[attr="class","athread"]The moment that Firebolt saw the Rookidee bouncing across the field to the Solar Squad, he knew what had to be done. He’d been there when Knightwing had yet to evolve, and remembered how he fought anything and everything with a ferocity much too big for his size. Lucha Libre had since taken his place as the team’s overly-aggressive bird, but judging by the blue blob he eyed, the trait was common amongst their kind.

A Flamethrower made quick work of the little bird before it could become a nuisance to the team, carefully controlled so as to not set the entire area alight.

[attr="class","athread"]Asha followed shortly after – or rather, a facsimile of her favourite Flareon. She dashed towards the fire fox, only for its figure to be obscured in a rolling fog of poison clouds. Dodging would take too long, and so Ultimeite chose to press through. The Smog whittled away at her health as she rushed in, but the pain she received would be dealt back tenfold.

An Accelerock led the offensive, forcing her to greet the mob with a super-effective blow. When the poison cleared Annie stood alone, surrounded by a few more items and a little more experience.

“Good to see you. Again. Listen, I don’t know about you, but this sword thing is getting a little stale. How about you just loosen yourself up now, and you and me can go on an adventure? I’ve got this sick new fishing technique I can show you. Spawns a mini-boss one hundred percent of the time.” Out of one attempt.

“So, how about it?” With an oversized grin, she gave the Honedge a yank.

[attr="class","athread"]Funnily enough, a Solosis had been part of the reason Annie had arrived at the Safari Zone… But the cell that appeared wasn’t the one for her. It was too normal, and a girl with as many exotic Pokemon as her wouldn’t settle for less if she could help it. She’d informed her Pokemon as much, too – though Firebolt eyed the Solosis from above, he knew better than to send the trainer chasing after it. Their trip in the zone had just begun, and so they had no reason to compromise themselves.

[attr="class","athread"]Annie’s second favourite fire lizard came next. Sorry, Charmander, but her white Salazzle held a special place in her heart. There was no love for her fellow Kantonian in her blade as she thrust it forward, dealing the little one a Breaking Swipe. A Metal Claw aimed to return the pain, but it clashed with her blade and went no further. A pair of auto-attacks didn’t give the mob a second chance to attack; instead, it was dissolved into experience and the loot she had been hunting for all along.

[attr="class","athread"]And just like that, not one, but two new kings had been crowned. A hero’s second wind found itself coursing through the girl. It wasn’t just a fluke. She had a chance. She had a good chance. If some randoms had managed to lay a crown atop their heads, then she had no excuse!

It was with an oversized sly grin that she approached the sword once more, determined that today would be her day. A deep breath attempted to steady her heart, to no avail. Oh well. Both arms wrapped themselves around the living sword’s hilt, and with one almighty pull, she dared to try and free it!

[attr="class","athread"]A Reckless Starly picked the wrong battle – but then, that was what they did best, wasn’t it? Annie watched the Brave Bird slam into Kingpin, but knew better than to give orders. Her Pokemon didn’t need to be told to defend themselves in the face of a threat. Such enough, the royal beasts rained down on the threat within seconds. Queenie’s Trop Kick introduced the bird’s face to the ground, giving Kingpin enough time to recover and follow up with an X-Scissor. The bird was left unconscious on the ground, under the watchful gaze of a Tsareena daring it to try again.

Annie kept quiet, though the smile on her face said enough.

[attr="class","athread"]The first time, she had been too slow, but Annie was determined not to let another boss pass her by. Determination drove her to the kingdom of furious flames, stopping about a dozen feet short of falling into a lava pool. The dulled senses that came with VR lessened what should have been burning heat to an inconvenient warmth. It meant that volcanoes could safely set the scene for battles and selfies alike, but Annie was only after the former. More specifically, their drops.

An oversized fillet knife cut a line through the ground, daring the mobs of the land to try and cross it. When they did, she would be waiting, her blade ready to turn them into experience and boss keys.
