Her words earned no mouth agape from him, as they were hardly surprising. He had intaken them as he did the smoke from his blunt, exhaling from his nose as he idly listened.

But the besmirching of her own worth was something he did not brush off as easily- eyebrows furrowing as she continued on, Kim holding his expression until she had finished speaking.

“I’m not gonna sit here and let you downplay my friend like that. Kay, you is kind, you is smart, and you is important- it doesn’t matter what title you hold, what you control, or what you produce, it’s all a matter of what you accomplish. And holding your own for as long as you have is accomplishment enough as far as I’m concerned. Really, this is like a promotion for you if anything.”

A chuckle escapes from his mouth as he looks at the expanse of green before him, the blunt once more meeting his lips as he shook his head.

“And a downgrade for me… Not only will I have to meet them to keep up public appearances but I have to go through the toils of getting them properly integrated into being a gym leader. Plus who knows what rules they’ll try to come up with for the gym that we’ll have to accommodate for. I just hope we can get francie myrtle ’s gym up and running before some new body comes and takes a seat in Mauville’s.”

"Perfect!" He exclaims, shooting up from his seat and pushing the rolling chair backwards.

"The first thing I'm going to officially teach you is that work comes after relaxation. Always."

Hands meet as they swiftly clap together, a Kirlia appearing near the desk - her eyes locked with Kim's. For a few seconds he's silent, stood staring at the Kirlia in the short span of time before his attention returned to Ruby.

"Ah, sorry, this is Anadyne-" His hands motion over to the pokemon, the Kirlia giving a tilt of her head in a 'sup, motion before returning her gaze to Kim. "-she's the link between me and my super secret hideouts, as in she teleports me- well, I guess us now- to them in a heartbeat."

"I'm not sure if you're used to teleporting from one place to another yet but it can be a little nauseating if your body isn't ready. Brace yourself."

He says nodding to the Skitty sat on the desk.

"You're in charge." The cat pokemon in turn nodding its head in affirmation, Kim's own returning to Ruby.

"Alright, ready? Good, let's go!"

And just like that, Kim and Ruby, along with her belonging's were gone. Zapped from existence in a second before being placed elsewhere.

The Skitty, now alone, simply yawns and curls herself up once more into a ball, sleeping peacefully.

"So how will this be affecting your status as Mauville’s gym leader?"

His hand gently plucks the blunt from her own- the lighter following- a quick flick of the ignition setting the tip ablaze. Soon enough it meets Kim’s lips, the man taking a quick puff before exhaling into the air.

The best part about hanging with your dealer is the pure fact that both of you could have your own blunt without the need to puff and pass - indulgence in the purest form.

“It’ll pass over my desk eventually, sure, but you’re here right now; give me the low and dirty before we get into the nitty gritty of more amiable topics.”

Far be it from him to question Cait’s decisions- his mind more at ease when he sets further worry aside from present situations.

Though he would still give her the attention she deserved, the words she had spoken causing him a bit of surprise- not enough to properly interject of course, but still enough for him to give a reaction.

He takes things one at a time, naturally progressing through her words as he sees fit, first and foremost, their current indulgence.

“A joint rolled by an earthen goddess? I’d be a fool to say no.”

Standing from the place he had once sat, he grabs a handful of sweets and shoves them into his pocket, moving alongside her as they entered the awaiting canopy.

“So what are you being reassigned to, exactly?”

There is a moment he ponders on asking who it was that would approve of reassignment but, considering the irrelevance of the other two council members, the only one he would place a pin onto would be none other than FERNANDO SILPH.

Kim lays casually on the rocky surface, a propped elbow setting his hand onto his cheek- holding his head up- as he turned to Cait, a delighted smile spreading across his lips as he looked to her. She spoke gleefully, two pokemon to her side as she neared, explaining herself in a pleasant tone.

“The more the merrier… unless they need to be watched, then that’s a little irresponsible.”

Of course the surrounding area allowed for free frollicking to ones leisure, but considering they were- as Cait has said- babes; and considering the fact that the two of them would be zoned out for a good portion of their hang out session- if not all of it- the younglings would be without supervision.

“Do you want to let them wander while we let our minds do the same? Because if so, Uaid - (Teddiursa) - knows this part of the forest like the back of his paw.”

He sits him self up and pats the spot near him, allowing space for her to sit on the stoney sofa.

The serene scene of an environment made suitable by careful hands sits before the man, an unnatural formation of rocks set into an arrangement suitable for seating; tucked away neatly within an alcove. The canopy of leaves sprinkled down light, setting a mood of relaxation over the area, Kim leaning himself up against the armrest of the makeshift stone sofa- a mossy coating making it more comfortable to lie upon.

After properly settling in, remaining silent for a few moments to take in his surroundings, he finally gives a deep sigh, an, “okay.” sounding from him before taking out his phone and tapping away at the screen, sending a single message.

“Come through.”

And with that, he sets his phone to the side, a Kirlia teleporting in with an assortment of snacks in tow, placing them nearby on the ground before blinking away one final time.

At least now if the one he had pinged didn’t show up he’d get to enjoy the snacks by his lonesome.

staredown between two worlds [research]

Deep down, Kim is a gambler. He’d tests his luck just as easy as take a breath in any situation he sees fit to do so- his carefree mentality leading him to the mindset of, “if you can get more, then go for more”.

But as of late, gambling had come second in his life only to the love that had entered it. He couldn't afford to gamble as he would in situations prior to the recent year, so the safety of his life trumped any thoughts of a grander prize than just that.

But this lust for life was not the only thing that had ran through Kim’s mind. In fact, it was precisely this that had halted him from furthering on with his acceptance of the deal.

How and where would he be looking for this bottle?

If it was in the desert this then surely this was nothing more than a pokemon pulling his leg, Kim “the fool” forced to wander this desert in search of a metaphorical needle in a haystack for who knows how long. But if it had not been the first guess, then how else was he supposed to find the bottle this imp seeks?

But then again… none of this was in his hands. At the moment, his life was not his own.

“...Fine.” He says after a moment of thought, eating a fletching after the acceptance. “As long as you can guarantee my safety, then so be it.” A thumb brushes his lip, wiping clean the glossy coat of grease that had naturally seeped from bird.

There had to be more to this than what knowledge had been given to him, but with him being out of the know, he could only hold his cards to his chest and wait for the right moment to play them.

Kim’s lonesome walk is soon interrupted by a tyrogue stepping onto his path, the pokemon firmly standing its ground, Kim stood stunned in place.

Kim’s eyes light up for a second before they turn dull, his arms crossing over his chest as he turns his shoulder to the pokemon.

Soon enough, the Tyrogue begins to walk forward, the pokemon slowly approaching Kim as the man remained in place.

“Oh, you’re approaching me? Instead of walking away you’re coming right to me?”

“Tyrouge -rogue ro-rogue tyrogue rogue rogue ro-rouge tyrogue.”

“Oh-oh! Then come as close as you like.”

Kim begins to walk towards the pokemon, their struts in sync with one another until they finally reached arms length between the two of them, the Tyrogue quickly going for a punch before being stopped midair, a Gothorita appearing in a moments notice.

With a suck of his teeth, Kim looked at the pokemon with an annoyed look.

“Bella we were gonna have a kickass fight, you didn-”

He was cut off once the pokemon gave him a look, her silent stare more than enough to put him in his place.

“Fine…” He sighed before tossing a ball at the stasised Tyrogue in an attempt to capture it.

His will is running out quick, the first step to defeat being the losing battle against his eyelids as they begin to droop- how unseemly.

He opens his mouth, as to respond but quickly puts a chip in it, forced to chew as he leans back and slowly closes his eyes.

In a weak and almost unheard voice, Kim says with no lack of dramatics.

“I’m sorry Fran, I just couldn’t win against this enemy. Sleep… you careless bitch.”

And like a light, he was out, laying into the couch as he snoozed silently.

Oh god, sleep would feel amazing right now- But that would mean less time to spend with Francie and all this effort she had put into making a “not birthday party” would go to waste. He needed to stay strong.

Oh shit she stopped talking, how long has it been quiet?

“Sorry I just got a dopamine rush from thinking about sleep. I didn't mean to stop talking like that.”

“I kinda want to visit Sinnoh too, maybe you’ll take me next time you go and we can have a family vacation.”

“You’ll get the hang of it.” He assures her, licking his lips quickly after, grabbing his own phone and turning it on airplane mode to ignore any further notifications.

“More than likely she’s knocked out upstairs in bed-”

He cuts himself short as a realization hits him, quickly turning to look up the stairs for a few seconds before coming to a stand.

“Once sec.”

He says before making he way up the stairs quickly and quietly, returning after a minute or so and taking his seat once more.

“She got under the covers, it’s cool.”

“By the way, did you find anyone or anything interesting while you were gone? You had to have met a few cool peeps or at least hiked up a rad ass mountain, right?”

Considering how out of date she was, it was honestly a little astounding for Kim to see her with technology from this age.

“First you gotta go here, then go there, and after that, you go here, and then you start texting me.”

Throughout the explanation he shows her the screen as he continually moves on without giving her much of a chance to process.

“Oh, here, I’ll put my number in for you.”

He pulls the device away and quickly entered his number before dumping it back onto her.

“Did you catch everything?”

He says before pulling a few chips from the bag and promptly eating them.

Moving as she speaks he makes his way to the snacks she had brought over, pecking at the treats and eyeing what had been splayed before him.

“It’s all love, love. Being there for my people is literally my job. And for friends, it’s my pleasure. Just remember, if you need me call me and I’ll come running.”

He pulls a bag of chips out and moves towards the couch.

“So. Are we gonna celebrate my not birthday or are we gonna keep talking about work?”
