it's always quiet around here. not many trainers. not many kids to shake down for lunch money. that suits luce just fine, though: she's never been great at battles. the ash that comes down constantly from the volcano above her makes a soft sort of whoosh noise in the air and lucy can't decide if it's comforting or unsettling or a weird mixture of both. it smells a lot like barbecue. now she's hungry.

[break][break]this is an unusual jogging route to choose, but she's decided the extra effort it takes to push through the ash-laden grasses and up and around the craggy cliffs and hills is worth it for the cardio practice it provides. she's been pulling too many weights recently and there's gotta be some give and take with that. what does she always tell her clients? even stevens. cardio and weights. otherwise, you will be weird monkey man with huge arms and toothpick legs. even. stevens. she'll just take a shower afterwards, no big. [break][break]vitaly is here, too, lumbering about behind her in that hovering-protection way of his. not that she needs it, but it's nice to have all the same. makes it feel like she can eat a hamburger once in a while, go easy on the chin-ups.

she looks up from where she's been tracking her feet across the ash to make sure she doesn't do an ankle on a sneaky rock and there it is: a lucario. it holds itself in a perfect fighter's rest stance, conserving power while remaining totally intimidating. lucille's lost for words for a moment, which isn't exactly rare for her, but still counts as a moment. she locks eyes with the creature for a heartbeat; two; three; then there's some understanding between the two of them that passes through that gaze and it nods, almost imperceptibly, and disappears into the ash as silently and subtly as it had appeared. lucille, for her part, is neither silent nor subtle, and continues on her path, making a track of clear dirt in the ash where she goes. vitaly continues on his stomping way. he's hardly even noticed the lucario's entrance or exit, too entranced by the smells of the fruits growing on the luscious vines in this fertile region. the ash makes it hard to breathe, but it's good practice: it'll train her lungs to ration the oxygen, make good on every ounce they get.

her eyes flick up to where a hitmontop is spinning about on its head, seemingly endlessly amused by the patterns his spins make in the ash. as much as she's been enjoying looking back at her path through, the brown dirt a clear comparison against the white undisturbed ash, this hitmontop must have been doing the same thing. she watches him for a while and her broad face breaks out into a grin, but she's not that fussed on him. there's others in his line that are much more her style: those that put aside this centrist nonsense of equal attack and defense and go fully into attack, whose piston-punching techniques are a form of mastery that she loves to marvel at. this spinning top can be left alone to his own devices, with his strange kicks, the obviously inferior martial art to punches. she continues jogging on, trying to watch where she's going, trying to see where she's placing her foot in this treacherous terrain. lucy's never really been that good with her feet.
