Bryan had arranged a meeting with Walsh alongside with Priam. He was kind of antsy as he paced around in the lobby outside of walsh's office for Priam to arrive. He needed him there for comfort, he couldn't cling to his whiskey lest Walsh probably smell it on his breath. [break][break]

"It'll be fine. It'll be fine, Priam will be with you." he kept whispering to himself until he saw the familiar blue hair man approach him and he grabbed his hand. "Finally, you're here. You ready?" he asked him as it was obvious Bryan was breaking a sweat previously but now he had calmed down a bit.

priam squeezes his hand back and innocently covers it with his other.

"what are you getting nervous about? it's not like they'll kill you if you make a mistake!"

hoenn rocket has gotten lax compared to the previous administrations. in a lot of ways, it's a positive for its lower ranking members such as priam for he, too, has gotten a lot of leeway for anything else.

fear of impressing blackwell before was not the same thing as he feels as he was with walsh, though that was not to say that the need for the boss's approval was absent. it was always there, and today was not different with any other.

he throws their hands up in the air before he turns to the door and knocks.

"it's delarosa and conrad! can we come in now?"

"come in! we don't have all day." they hear two thwacks of an old cane, viridian wood knocking against submarine metals. before the two can attempt to push the door, it swings open on its own accord.

a snake of smoke recedes into a nearby wall's edges. two plush seats are afforded for priam and bryan. their ornate wooden frames rest on a thick circular carpet, woven with an intricate design depicting one large tree. its branches. its roots.

"sit down. name your business," walsh says, dusting off a leather bound book.

Priam's arrival managed to help Bryan fend off some of the jitters that refused to leave his body previously. "Yeah but still. Talking to man who has so much power yet we know so little about still spooks me." he tells Priam as he plants a kiss on his cheek very quickly as he went and knocked on walsh's door.[break][break]

He immediately noticed the tree on the floor, fitting. He gulps quickly as he then forces his feet to move forward and enter the office and notices how beautifully it's decorated. When he was told to sit down Bryan immediately moved over to the seat and sat down as he dare not keep Walsh waiting for long, their time was limited and he had to make the most of it. [break][break]

"Sir. Thank you for giving us a moment of your time. I'll make sure not to waste it." he tells him before starting the meeting off. [break][break]

"Conrad and I want to give you a report of our findings of the tree and it's strange behavior. First and foremost I've tried various methods of entering the tree, from the roots to the branch's and et cetera and all of them were met with resistance from the tree itself. They'd come alive and fend me off. Whether it be by moving it's branches to swing at me or using" he says. [break][break]

"Furthermore, I had met with Killian Decker to experiment with one of the samples I secured from the excursions. With a Pokemon named zarude I managed to transplant one of our tree samples to the tree of life itself and it was accepted no problem. In fact it attacked me afterwards as it came to life as well as soon as it was done merging. On top of that we also observed some strange behavior with one of Priam's Pokémon that he could explain further." he said looking over to him and allowing the man to explain what he witnessed himself.

he takes his seat, not as nervous as bryan as this was not his first rodeo with a rocket boss.

the smile fades into panic as bryan gives him the mic.

"i, er, yeah. tests from the blue mulch, both from league and rocket's research teams, concluded proper, uh, procedures to harness its properties to revive the dead."

lots of words that weren't used in casual conversation was too taxing for priam. thankfully, most of it would be previous knowledge if walsh does indeed receive his own reports.

"i've attempted to revive a gabite successfully. when it approached the tree, it did not receive the same opposition. rather, it, uh, hmm... was wanted by the tree."

priam wets his lips as he stops himself from physically biting them. the presence of his gabite wasn't supposed to be known in case it becomes a subject of interest. still, this was the right thing to do, he supposed. for the glory of rocket and all.

"guzzlord, a pokemon of the same situation, did not seem to be affected like it though. probably because it's an ultra beast or something?"

walsh listens with his eyes closed. he holds his hands over each other like dripping icicles propped by strict elbows. each account is taken in like breath, each inhalation as sharp as a bisharp's blades.

"i appreciate the thorough reports, delarosa. conrad." the boss raises a silver eyebrow arched above gloved hands. "well rehearsed."

he stands up from his chair, shadow stretching from his black shoes.

"the tree has attacked you two and your pokemon. refused you two. conversely, a zarude-graft and a gabite revived to full vigor has revealed a tree in need." the boss leans over the desk, gloved finger pointing at the two.

"let's pose a question shall we? why do you believe the tree is attacking you? educated guesses only."

He sees the shadows stretching from his feet and is reminded that his powers were a big question mark to most in rocket. Lulu Flint only had one ability from her blessing with Darkrai...while he was sure walsh had more, no he KNEW walsh could do other things. He was always a step ahead of others. [break][break]

Bryan thought about it in honest. He had a couple of reasons, there was only one thing he knew for certain from all of his and priam's interactions. The tree was alive, they were intruders. Was it really as simple as that? No there had to be more, maybe it would only protect itself from outsiders if.. "Is...is it protecting something within?" [break][break]

"We're intruders and it doesn't want us to have what's inside? It doesn't want us to find xerneas?" he said knowing the tree HAD to be linked to the creature walsh declared to belong to rocket. "Is it..xerneas itself protecting it's tree?" he asked "And we're like a virus entering an organism?"

what's the difference between his gabite and them...?

the only obvious answer was that his gabite was revived through the help of the blue mulch while everyone that had attempted wasn't. it wouldn't coincide with the fact that his guzzlord didn't receive the same treatment despite being in the same boat, however. then again, the guzzlord hadn't been dead in the first place and was just a limb that regenerated its entire body as opposed to the other way around.

previous experiences with the tree also do not match the behavior. the ones near fallarbor and the one at littleroot had little to no resistance while the one near mt. pyre only had been indirectly causing a defensive mechanism instead of doing so aggressively.

"i, uh, don't know." priam crosses his arms as he thinks deeply into the question. "i'm qualified for an educated guess too, right? so, uh, i'm guessing it just developed a defense mechanism after the previous trees got picked on so much. maybe it doesn't even have any intent of its own and it's just territorial and defensive against anything that isn't its own, yeah?"

his answer sounds educated enough, he supposed.

walsh nods along with each answer, his grey hair unmoving against the ghost of his skin.

"i'm impressed."

the boss says firmly. despite the pleasant feedback, his tone remains dark and stalwart like the umbral hue of his desk's wood.

"i am inclined to believe in elements of both of your theories. one: the tree must be protecting itself, whether it is xerneas itself or not, that is to be determined. second: the tree is indeed, learning. similar to an immune system."

he removes himself from his seat. black oxford shoes in polished miltankskin grace the circular rug.

"the tree or xerneas being unable to detect the guzzlord is a peculiar development. mayhap we can consider that it can not identify extradimensional beings."

But back to the subject at hand. Extraterrestrial beings? Would pokemon from space count? or pokemon that were REALLY far away, ultra space far. Sadly bryan only knew of priam conrad having a Pokémon that was an ultrabeast, he hadn't really encountered anyone else in rocket with one. [break][break]

"It's learning huh? So if we used something it hasn't really had time to adapt to learning about we can strike at it quick enough to break through..." he said as the gears in his head began to turn. Would Silvally be able to break through? It is a synthetic Pokémon that was created rather than born. They were also incredibly rare due to such a mysterious method of creation.. [break][break]

"Sir. this is slightly a bit off topic but it's something I've been meaning to bring up to you for quite some time.." he said leaning towards priam slightly and wrapping on finger around the other's. He needed his support. [break][break]

"If we do find xerneas Mr. Walsh, and the opportunity presented itself. Would you assist me in becoming it's avatar?" he asked with a small pause. "My reasons for wanting to become it's avatar are purely selfish. But, if it helps rocket and my own goals..." he says a bit of fear mixed with fierce determination in his eyes as he took out his contact, revealing his green eye to the head of the snake.. he's already been told by bryan about his plans. he just never thought that he'd bring in the rocket boss to realize it.

past experience with rocket tells him that this will be a give and take, weighted heavily towards the boss's side of the deal. with the changes the organization has undergone, however, he's not entirely sure if they're reliable points of references anymore.

priam swallows.

he has nothing to say for this matter. part of him wants to rely on blind trust with the system and hopes it all works out in the end. walsh is nice, right? priam has nothing to fear with regards to his reaction with bryan's request.

he rests his chin on the valleys of his gloved fingers.

"even if you'd like to be our sacrificial battery, we would have no clue as to what a xerneas blessing would look like." he looks to priam, noting the silence without direct inquiry before angling his gaze toward bryan once more.

"if you are referring to shadow lugia and merlino. we simply cleared the creature's mental capacity. the avatarship that followed was a consequence of its bond with the man."

He had mixed feelings on walsh's answer.[Break][break]
on one hand he was glad that walsh would lend his assistance if he could, but on the other that meant there was a possibility of failure that existed in his plan. [break][break]

Then again, having allies was never a bad thing so this was a smaller than expected victory in his book. "Then I suppose it's up to me and xerneas. But, having your support sir gives me hope. Thank you for this information." he says, thanking him for the light he's shed on the situation.[break][break]

"So in light of all this information. How would you like to proceed towards handling the tree? More and more league members have been trying to infiltrate it. Most recently, I caught MATIAS SILPH and Eva Morales during my guard duties and barely managed to fend them off. It seems like she was trying to mix primal energy and infinity energy and it ended rather..poorly?" he asks.

priam rubs the back of his neck, subtly conscious that he would be affected by the league scientist's safety.

"if rocket can't blast through its defenses, then we shouldn't really be worried about it either. even teleports, phasing through, and going through dimensions don't seem to be working."

he eyes walsh, unsure if he should voice out Katherine Fairburne's name in front of bryan for working alongside her. priam gives out reports to the boss about his findings anyways, regardless of whether this meeting happened or not.

"i haven't tried brute forcing yet though."

fighting against the tree itself was a risk he's not willing to take too early with his gabite's return.
