she can't sleep, the city feels simultaneously too open, too enclosed. staring at the ceiling of her hotel room, persephone plans escape routes from rustboro if an invasion were to happen.

rising from the bed and ruing her restlessness, persephone lets the northern path lead her from the city; and at the fork in the road between seaside route and the one leading to the caves, of course her heart picks the embrace of the dark earth. she heads east, trance-like in her sleep deprivation and tracing the long blades of grass with outstretched fingers.

the grass shivers. although it seems the creature dwelling within is small in stature based on the gentle tremble, persephone releases her chandelure to loom at her side just to be safe.

the violet flames that seem eerie to others is soothing to her. leaning down curiously, persephone parts the grass to investigate the undergrowth, only to lose interest quickly. she moves on through the night.

it spins, it teeters side to side, it pirouettes across the grass and through the trees.

the pokemon's unsteady, jerking movements remind her, idly, of a horror movie villain. persephone recognises it as just a spinda, but is unsettled anyway. yes, it's probably just wandered through the caves somehow and ended up this side of the craggy mountains, but that's a small solace.

she walks away faster.

the pokemon screeches as it tries to launch a stream of fury swipes at persephone's chandelure, none of which land because of the pokemon's ghost-typing. it was more of a nuisance than anything, really.

persephone tosses a pokeball at it just to get it to go away.
