Klaus, admittedly, did well under certain types of pressure: running from the coast guard, free diving, smuggling. It would be a stretch to accuse him of a faint heart, save for when responsibility is involved. Specifically, responsibility for something he could very easily, accidentally, kill. Thus, on what was supposed to be a simple drop-off of his Froakie at the daycare instead turns into a trial.

"Thank you so much we'll be right back," the older woman is babbling to Klaus, the young man's voice caught in his throat and eyes impossibly wide. Klaus looks down to the Togepi which has been shoved - rudely in his opinion - into his hands while the woman proceeds to leave with the EMTs.

"I really don't think," Klaus tries, his words choked and tight.
[break][break]
"You'll do wonderfully," the old woman assures before she's simply gone. Gone with the EMTS. Gone with her husband who just survived a heart attack. Apparently. Klaus looks down at the Togepi in his arms.

The Togepi starts crying.
[break][break]
"Fuck's sake," he hisses, his magenta-pink gaze casting desperately around the room for anything to comfort the baby pokemon. "Stop?" Klaus tries, his voice cracking with a lilt.

The Togepi cries louder.

"Brah, I thought an apple a day was supposed to keep the doctor away, not make him kidnap the daycare dude!"

Beau's unmistakably boisterous cadence filters through from outside the front door, followed by a hushed conversation from another party, followed again by a slightly less boisterous, "Oh, dang, I'm sorry. Yeah, no, I don't need-" A pause. "What do you mean he needs help? You left somebody in there to babysit?"

"Was he real quiet and kinda the cutest guy you ever saw, by chance?" Mumble mumble mumble in the affirmative. "No freakin' way! Yeah, we got this, you guys be safe, alright?"

The door opens and Beau enters, cradling an Applin in one hand and peering around the empty daycare with cautious optimism on his features. He catches sight of Klaus, beams broadly, and then quickly schools his expression into one of neutrality before the other man can zero in on him. Of course, it might be difficult to zero in on much of anything with the Togepi crying fitfully enough to fill the room with its chirping. "Whoa, whoa, whoa, what's going on?" He gently sets the Applin on the floor where it begins puttering around aimlessly, one eye then the other flipping down inquisitively as it nudges a pile of papers in one corner.

Beau spares a sympathetic glance for Klaus before rifling through a nearby basket of knick-knacks, eventually coming up with a small cluster of silver bells attached to a short handle, which he shakes experimentally, producing a series of light jingles. He clambers up, rushing back over to Klaus and shaking the bells just above the Togepi's head, softening its crying for a moment as it looks up at the bells with open curiosity.

"Uh, hey," he offers quietly, glancing over to Klaus as he jingles the bells above the baby pokemon cradled in the other's arms.

"What?" Klaus asks, his voice barely audible over the screaming Togepi in his arms as he looks over towards the building's entrance, hoping against hope that the old woman has had a change of heart and returned. Instead, he's brought face to face with Beau.

Unsure what to say, or even do, he stands there rigid until the much larger man comes up to the pair with a cluster of bells; his brow furrows, and Klaus for a brief moment begins to question Beau's intelligence again before the jingling seems to actually do something. The Togepi slowly stops crying, a whiny coo sounding from the little egg as it focuses on the noise.

Blinking once in shock, Klaus looks from the Togepi to Beau, a vague blush beginning to dust his cheeks as he greets in turn, "Hey." Opening his mouth and then closing it, Klaus glances towards the doorway again and then begs helplessly, "Please stay, I don't know what the fuck I'm doing."

As Klaus distracts himself with Beau, his Froakie which he had intended to drop off hops out from behind his ankles towards the Beau's Applin. Giving an inquisitive little ribbit, the Froakie hops over to investigate the little dragon as well as the seeming nest it's beginning to build with stray paper.

Beau can't help the pang of sympathy that tightens his chest at Klaus' words. He beams broadly at the Togepi, gently shaking the bells, before turning his head to glance at Klaus, his expression softening slightly. "No worries, we got this," he murmurs, offering the shorter man a confident wink.

He nods toward the Togepi, who is currently doing a fine job of settling out of its tantrum. "They can definitely pick up on how you're feeling, y'know? You gotta relax, brah, you're so tense you look like you might snap in half." He lifts the arm not currently occupied with the bells and casually settles it across Klaus' shoulders, grinning. "Chill, y'feel me?"

In the corner, his Applin growls delightedly as Froakie comes to investigate, one eyeflap flipping down in greeting before he hops around the makeshift paper pile, scooting a few more errant pieces together before jumping into the middle of the erstwhile bunker and wiggling down to settle in. After a moment, his green tail nudges outward, pushing an outcrop of crumpled flyers toward Froakie in invitation.

The furrow along Klaus's brow eases minutely as Beau assures him; he blinks once as he's winked at, his gaze swiftly averting to the egg pokemon held in his arms. "I-" he begins, his voice abruptly cut off as he's gently teased and then finds an arm slung around his shoulders.

The pink dusting his cheeks darkening, Klaus's heart rate ratchets upwards, resulting in his arms unconsciously clutching the Togepi tighter. In response, the Togepi fusses, and then shrieks. Nearly fumbling the pokemon out of his grasp, Klaus bites out a frustrated, "For fuck's sake."

"You take it," he demands desperately, the Togepi unceremoniously shoved into Beau's arms while snatching up the silver bells to free the other man's hands.

Uncaring of his trainer's distress, Froakie looks thoughtfully over the Applin and the makeshift bunker; putting a webbed foot to his little jaw, the Froakie observes the construction with a critical eye and then purposefully bounds over. Pushing papers here, and shoving them there, he soon begins to mold spires of bubbles from the mantle around his neck, creating impressive little arches for his newest friend.

The smallest of smirks twitches at the corner of Beau's lips as Klaus, flustered, passes the Togepi off to him. Turning his head to hide it from the shorter man, he makes shushing noises at the egg-bound pokémon he finds himself holding, bouncing it gently as it rouses from its calm.

"There there, little dude, chillax," Beau soothes the Togepi, wiggling a finger in front of its face. The pokémon blinks, nearly going cross-eyed to follow the large fingertip proffered to it, and abandons its fussing in favor of stretching its tiny arms upward, attempting to grab on to the offending digit.

Beau glances to Klaus with a winning grin. "See? No problemo. Is there a radio around here anywhere? Some tunes might help the little guy go to sleep while we wait on the 'rentals, feel me?"

In the corner, the Applin is utterly delighted by the architectural prowess of his new acquaintance, shuffling through an arch and then turning to scoot back through again, wiggling his tail delightedly.

Relief instantly seizes Klaus as the Togepi becomes Beau's problem by virtue of holding the thing last. Raking a hand through his hair, he stares a touch enviously as Beau seems to immediately quiet the screaming bastard.

Well, he certainly wouldn't complain.

"Yeah, whatever, let me look," Klaus mumbles, though nonetheless searches for a radio in the small room. He comes up lucky for once, and just behind the reception counter is a small stand-alone radio that he flicks on.

Heavy metal of all things screams from the tinny speakers, and Klaus winces subtly as he quickly moves to turn down the volume. A soft "Fuck," sounds from Klaus before he beings turning the dial for another station, only to stop as a shrill scream from Togepi gives him pause.

Blinking once, he carefully, slowly, turns the station back to the screaming metal and Togepi coos again to settle into the embrace of Beau's arms. Turning his gaze from the Togepi to Beau, he offers an incredulous look that practically says, "Are you seeing this shit?"

Meanwhile, Froakie shoots Klaus an annoyed look at the shredding guitars from the radio and pointedly sculpts both itself and Applin a pair of bubble headphones to blot out the sound.

A wince briefly tightens Beau's features as the radio switches on, the sudden shriek of heavy metal causing the Togepi to immediately wriggle restlessly in his arms, screaming shrilly. He quickly schooled his face back into a kind of warm neutrality, and despite the murmured expletive from the direction of the radio, he was rewarded with the volume reducing itself to a much more acceptable level.

He rocked the Togepi gently as it settled down again, and, catching Klaus's look, he offered a self-satisfied grin. Cool, calm, and collected, that was Beau; he couldn't bring any more stress or anxiety to the party, because he had two touchy kids to keep level, after all.

When the howling of the heavy metal is abruptly shifted to the soft strains of classical music, the Togepi yelps again, and Beau blinks, peering at Klaus until the other man flips it back. As soon as the discordant guitar riffs explode from the speakers once more, the Togepi closes its eyes, burrowing against Beau's chest contently.

Blinking incredulously, Beau looks to Klaus and offers a one-shouldered shrug. "Kid knows what he likes," he rumbles.

The Applin, meanwhile, dives for cover under the loose pile of trimmings that he and Froakie had made for themselves at the first assault of the heavy metal music. Tapping from his companion's webbed hand brings him to the surface, where he happily wiggles into the bubble-forged headphones, seeming to sag with relief as the horrible sound is blocked out.

Despite his dislike of the genre - this much noise tended to give him anxiety, Klaus slowly feels the tension bleed from his frame as Togepi quiets down. He gives a half-hearted smile and chuckle at Beau's words.

He leans against the counter, content to not speak for the time being as the music plays and Togepi chirrups along occasionally as if it knew the words. Hell, maybe it did. A quick glance at his own Pokemon reveals Froakie and Applin both sitting with relieved looks and bubble-made headphones to block out the music.

Klaus snorts.

A few more songs pass and finally the front door swings open to reveal the daycare's owners. While the older man looks sheepish, his wife announces for both of their benefits, "Gas! Can you believe it. Just gas. And here everyone thought it was a heart attack."
