“Do you like it?” Seraphine asked the other woman, her voice low and sultry.

“Why, it is stunning. I feel as if I am back in Laverre City right now, looking at the ancient tree, feeling the anticipation before facing Valerie. You’ve captured the city’s likeness perfectly,” the woman breathed, clearly impressed.

“I’m from there myself,” Seraphine smiled, pleased. “I have many fond memories of that tree, of the gym, and of boat rides on the canal.”

Her client nodded eagerly, eyes glazing over suddenly in quiet reverie. Seraphine gently took the oil painting from the woman’s hands and began wrapping it in a soft, pale-pink tissue paper. Over her shoulder, her Lampent hovered dutifully, providing additional light as Seraphine’s pristinely manicured fingers deftly folded and taped. A few minutes later, she presented the elegantly packaged commission back to the older woman.

“There is one other thing before you go, Claudette,” Seraphine added, sliding open a small drawer beneath her worktable. She pulled out a nondescript, unmarked envelope and held it out to the other woman. “This is the letter you requested, signed by your ex-husband. I think you will find his signature quite satisfactory.”

Claudette’s eyes widened as she took the envelope without hesitation. It was unsealed, and when she opened it and removed the letter within, her expression changed from apprehensive to relieved. “My, you are talented, Miss D’aureville. I was told you were the best forger in Hoenn, and it seems I was not lied to.”

“You flatter me,” Seraphine purred, golden eyes glinting in the low, spectral light. “Be sure to hang the painting where it will get lots of natural light. Our beloved city of otherworldly dreams deserves that much.”
