She paid the Pokémon no mind, wringing her hands together as if awaiting the verdict of a particularly tense trial.[break][break] The man looked up, then, expression unreadable, and took one of the teacups, bringing it carefully to his lips. He sipped slowly, savoring it. After a long, pregnant pause, he murmured casually, "It's a fake."[break][break] "What?!" the woman scoffed. "That's been in my husband's family for generations!"[break][break] The man shrugged, sitting back in his chair, spectacles reflecting the low light of the small office. "If it were authentic, there would be a small signature marking where the two hands meet. The wood has also been treated to look older than it is." White teeth flashed, a smile that wasn't particularly sorry even as the deep, soothing voice prepared its apology. "My condolences. It is worthless."[break][break] She snatched back the supposed antique clock so aggressively, she nearly knocked over the second cup of tea, the one she had not touched. She fled the room like a petulant child about to throw a tantrum. Mortimer looked to his master, eyebrows raised in a quizzical fashion.[break][break] "It was not a waste," Girard Fraser assured in response to the Mr. Mime's unspoken inquiry. He crossed one leg over the other and took another long sip of tea.
