HOW TO CHALLENGE THE HOENN LEAGUE

EXPLANATION

ON HOENN, all characters can participate in the gym challenge. Hoenn's gym leaders are educators, aiming to teach the general populace about the basics of battling, especially as a response for the multitude of threats the region faces. A badge signifies the fulfillment of each gym's educational objective.

NOTE: THE GYM CHALLENGE IS NOT THE CENTRAL FOCUS OF THIS SITE/SITE PLOT

Gyms have TRADITIONAL and NON-TRADITIONAL challenges. Traditional challenges consist of a classic Pokemon battle in a specified format. In such formats, there are no restrictions. Non-traditional challenges consist of creative scenarios that a gym leader has devised to assess a trainer.

REWARDS

COMPLETING AN GYM/E4/CHAMPION BATTLE THREAD confers rewards to both characters, regardless of the outcome. However, there are increased rewards for losses.[break][break]

Increased rewards for losses have been established to diminish conflicts and stress revolving losses, while emphasizing the OOC and IC expectation that the League's Gym Leaders, Elite Four, and Champion are meant to be challenging, difficult battles with real stakes and possibilities for character development.

[attr="class","ynospace"]
  • GYM CHALLENGE'S FIRST LOSS - 200 PD
  • MINOR GYM CHALLENGE - 125 PD
  • TRADITIONAL GYM CHALLENGE - 100 PD
  • NON-TRADITIONAL GYM CHALLENGE - 125 PD
  • E4 INTERVIEW PASS - 50 PD
  • E4 INTERVIEW FAILURE - 100 PD
  • E4 CHALLENGE'S FIRST LOSS (PER E4) - 250 PD
  • E4 CHALLENGE - 150 PD
  • HOENNIAN CHAMPION ASSESSMENT'S FIRST LOSS - 300 PD
  • HOENNIAN CHAMPION ASSESSMENT PASS - 200 PD
[break]

* these values are subject to change.

GYM BADGES CAN BE GRANTED OUTSIDE OF GYM CHALLENGES. Should a gym leader determine a trainer as capable or fitting for the educational objective they teach, they may grant the badge in a thread, or during a CANON ACTIVITY CHECK.[break][break]

Granting a badge outside of gym challenges can only be done ONCE PER CANON ACTIVITY CHECK PERIOD (e.g. grant a badge before or during canon ac, can't grant another one until another canon ac is published).

VICTORY ROAD

AFTER CONSULTATION with Elite Four 's evaluations and Top Champion 's feedback, including experience from running THE MINOR LEAGUE, the League's Gym Challenge has been reformatted.[break][break]

Once a challenger has received at least 4 BADGES from TRADITIONAL GYM CHALLENGES and AT LEAST 6 BADGES IN TOTAL (SUBJECT TO CHANGE), they may apply for the HOENNIAN CHAMPION ASSESSMENT. One MINOR LEAGUE BADGE can count for this requirement.[break][break]

Challengers who require traditional challenge badges can rechallenge gym leaders to fulfill the requirement. Non-traditional challenge badges are still held in high esteem for other IC contexts.[break][break]

Next, the challenger is interviewed for fit, properness, and virtue before challenging the Elite Four. Challengers who are able to prove their mettle against the Elite Four and the Top Champion become CHAMPION RANKED trainers.[break][break]

There can be multiple Champion Ranked trainers; however, the Top Champion is the Hoennian representative globally who works in close conjunction with the Elite Four, Council and Commissioner in regards to the region's functioning.

GYM QUEUES

TO CHALLENGE A GYM, you must peruse the gym board for gym challenge sign-up threads or the canon list to see who the gym leaders are.

[attr="class","ynospace"]
  • characters who have 8 badges (retired or active) are discouraged from applying for gym challenges.
  • characters are encouraged to be in 1 gym challenge at a time, rather than being in multiple. however, this may be dependent on pacing, availability, and other external factors.
  • characters who do not post within 7 days (or the gym leader's own established timeframe) of the gym leader will be disqualified from obtaining the badge with diminished monetary and infamy rewards.[break][break]

    this timeframe does not apply to gym leaders, for their activity is reviewed in canon activity checks.

LOSING A MATCH AGAINST A GYM LEADER OR ELITE FOUR does not mean you can requeue immediately for a rematch. Please be mindful and provide space and time before rechallenging. Better yet, taking the opportunity to explore any character development from this moment will prove to be a fruitful and meaningful pause.[break][break]

QUEUES FOR THE ELITE FOUR & CHAMPION should also be respected. Though they do not have the same restrictions as above, following similar guidelines will help alleviate workload and duress on everyone involved from this point onward.

CREATING A GYM

TO CREATE A GYM, your character must be established ICly for some time, affiliated with the League and be accepted for a canon position as a gym leader. To apply, please DM for further details.

[attr="class","ynospace"]
  • gyms can have at least two options for battlers to choose from: traditional versus non-traditional.
  • gyms do not require non-traditional challenges.
  • traditional gym challenges are straight-forward battle threads that can range in format, but do not have any restrictions.
  • non-traditional gym challenges are systems, battles, or procedures the gym leader's player has set that stray away from simple battle threads. for example, requiring the challenger to perform tasks or fulfill special conditions.
  • the challenger will decide which option (traditional vs. non-traditional) they would like to take.
  • you MUST REGULATE HOW BIG YOUR QUEUE is. you can decide to have one slot or more; however, be mindful of your own limits.
