“Wonder what we got out here this time,” Lam mused aloud to his companions as they stepped through the entrance gate. Poppy and Noodle followed per usual, content to go wherever Lam did. It only made sense to continue with their monthly visits. The brief step away from the city allowed him the chance to breathe, and regain his bearings so that he could return to the gym with a clear head and plenty of enthusiasm.

The blue treeko lazing on one of the three limbs is difficult to miss. It doesn’t blend as well as the typical treeko might. Eager to scrap, Noodle darts up the to the tree base with threatening chirps. A WILD CHARGE rolls up the tree trunk to zap the poor lizard. “Kind of an unfair fight, bud.” It was napping, after all. Lam tosses a pokeball to catch it before it hits the ground.

He caught the safari ball as it came shooting down with the pull of gravity. Securing it in his back, he twisted as a chirping from Poppy alerted him to the presence of yet another new party. A torchic pecked at the ground, and that time he was quick to signal Noodle not to spring on the chick. Another safari ball rolled into his hand, but the other snagged a bag of birdseed which he scattered on the path for it. “Here, little birdy..”[break][break]

Once it was distracted with the treat, he let the pokeball fly.

Not as interested in provoking the attention of any aquatic life that day, Lam veers away from the path that leads to the pond. Instead, he makes his way into a shadier area in a cluster of trees. From the muddy, shallow end, a mudkip watches—half-submerged in the muck. Bubbling air through the water, it sinks down and disappears from sight.

Given his trek away from the pond, Lam also missed the feebas that leapt up out of the water. It was left to swim free as it pleased. Meanwhile, he peered through the branches of the trees that stretched above, the light dappling through the shadows in a comfy, peaceful way. His shinx clambered through the brush, clearly intent on startling new catches out into the open.

When Noodle eventually uncovered a pikachu, he didn't immediately go on the offensive like he had with the treecko. Maybe it was a result of the shared electric typing, Lam wasn't sure. But the shinx trilled at the little rodent, tail held high in friendly greeting. The pikachu wasn't as feisty as many were - probably large in part because it was smaller than average. Lam approached behind Noodle, crouching down to join in the greetings so that he could hopefully corral it and take it home as well.

The little pikachu sniffed at his hand, static sparking from her cheek pouches. The little zaps as she rubbed his open palm sent a little shock through his system. But it wasn’t anything he wasn’t accustomed to after all of his shinx’s nuzzles. With a tap, he collected the pikachu into a safari ball. When he looked up, Poppy had come across an eevee that tried to nip at her tail feathers. A quick burst of RAZOR WIND sent it tumbling away, only for Lam to chase it with his remaining safari ball.
