He was rather familiar with Miss Freya, having met her a few times previously on several occasions. Now that the known ‘Dragon Lady’ needed some help with getting her rather growing number of Dragon-types trained up, who was he to turn a blind eye?[break][break]

He had several Dragon-types among his crowd, and some of them were also part of his Gym Challenges despite not being Flying-types in all but name—they were flying, okay, he didn’t like to discriminate. Especially when it came to his uber-jealous Hydreigon who always loved to chase down his Salamence whenever chance he got.[break][break]

Now, he knew that Miss Freya was a council member, but he wasn’t expecting her to be like—seriously fucking loaded.[break][break]

He stood outside the estate, gaping at the sheer size of everything. Seeing that there was someone opening the gate, he then made his way over to it, and informed the person who was in charge of opening the gate that he was here for helping to train the dragons. The guy at the gate had to do a double-take the moment he walked in, because…[break][break]

…they weren’t expecting a Gym Leader, of all people, to come drop by the estate and help with the training![break][break]

Silence followed as he went down the well-maintained path out to the back, where most of the Dragon-types (and not-so-Dragon-types but still considered to be draconids) were lounging or running around or basically causing a hell of a riot.[break][break]

“Okay, what now?” he asks, looking around—seeing as he’s been left to his own devices.[break][break]

Whoops.

she's nervous, because yet again she finds herself in a position she hadn't thought she would be in.

the blonde haired girl however, took in a few deep breaths and let it flow through her body. she had found her way here, after noticing the mission. considering her last one didn't end in the explosion of a power plant, she figured she was probably good to grab another. after all, she would have to keep pushing herself, to keep going forward and try to be better then she's been lately. and honestly, it wasn't like anyone but her could push herself. she had a destiny to accomplish, and cordelia was not one to give up. it wasn't in her blood, and it wasn't in her soul.

she did pause when she got to the estate however. it was significantly... bigger then she was used to. not extremely so, but still she hadn't realized that the mission giver - a council member if she remembered correctly - was that rich. in a way, it made cordelia a bit more comfortable, because her parents were loaded as well. perhaps they didn't show it as ostentatiously as here, but they still owned a fair amount of properties in several regions. and so it was with a slightly more confident stride that she found herself at the gate, giving her name as one meant to come help with the training today. it took a moment for the guard to find her information - unknown to cordelia at the time, said guard was still a little shocked at a gym leader's appearance of all things - but once that was done she was let through.

only to be met with a bit of a riot.

"oh no." she said. this was not good. she immediately noticed someone there, and that's where we started the whole post at.

"hello sir! cadet cordelia potter reporting for duty!" she said. she didn't quite snap into a salute, but very nearly did. "seems things are a little bit out of hand huh? any idea where to start sir?" she would ask him, because of course she recognized a gym leader. well, vaguely - she couldn't recall his name off hand if only because she hasn't quite been ready for the gym challenge yet. she still would offer the man respect, even as she winced at a particularly loud roar. yup, definitely not good - and that's why she brought some of her more reliable pokemon. and sturdy.

because this was going to go south somehow, she just knew it.

The moment he’d emerged, was a moment where most of the older Dragon-types were causing a riot. He could only…blink, and watch as the insanity unfolded—most of the smaller Axew that he spotted were running around wailing because they were being chased by their much-larger Haxorus counterparts.[break][break]

There were some Bagon that were butting their heads against rocks, against trees—he flinched as he saw a decorative tree fall under the force of the combined frustration, and he could only sigh. Was he going to pay for this damage?[break][break]

Hopefully not![break][break]

Thankfully the little pond where he spotted some Dratini lounging was pretty peaceful. Well, that seems to be a nice place to start… he thought, about to head over there when he heard someone speak up behind him.[break][break]

Turning around on the spot, he couldn’t help but crack a bit of a smile. “Hey, take it easy—today I’m not a Gym Leader, I’m here doing a favor for someone I’m familiar with. No need to be so formal,” Alexei begins with a hint of amusement. He can see that she’d almost snapped her hand in a salute, but he gives a wave of his hand, as if dismissing that action.[break][break]

“Well… I hope you have a few sturdy companions. Look at this mess,” he continues with a sigh, gesturing at the fallen tree which the Bagon were now trying to gnaw and rip apart. “Looks like this calls for some discipline…” he mutters, reaching into his pockets and pulling out a Moon Ball.[break][break]

A few moments later a Salamence bursts out of the red beam of light, and Gabriel is surprised to see so…many…draconids, running around in the madness.[break][break]

“Gabe? Can you take care of the Bagon? I don’t want them to wreck Miss Freya’s garden…” he says in an apologetic tone to the Salamence, who lets out a huff and flies off to manage the rampaging Bagon.[break][break]

“Well, that’s one part done. Time to bring the rest of the chaos under control—“ he’s about to say when he feels something bump rather hard into his legs. Looking down, he spots a Deino, obviously stumbling around while looking for something to eat. It then makes a prompt snapping noise in his direction, forcing him to jump out of the way![break][break]

“WHOA! Be nice!” he shouts, quickly pulling out another shrunken-down marble and tossing it forward, this time watching as a Ribombee emerges from it.[break][break]

“Hi Carina, yes. Help!” he gestures as the Deino tries to take another chunk out of his leg.

she almost feels bad, but honestly, this is the second time now.

they're pretty casual, aren't they? just people.
[break][break]
"sorry 'bout that. I was raised by mom to make sure to respect those higher in rank then I am. politeness and courtesy lessons I was told." she said, sounding a bit abashed. she offers him an smile, and tries to relax a little more. but seriously, these dragons are everywhere. and all stirred up too. that was definitely stranger then she thought it would be, but sometimes discipline requires a heavier hand. seeing the male getting ready to get down to business, she follows his leap - plucking a ball from her belt, she lets the red light coalesce into one of her beloved companions.

"domus, how about you go help with the bagons?" she said. the crawdaunt snapped her claws in confirmation, and scuttled away. it was then her attention was caught by the pool of dratini, as they had seemed the calmest and now were letting out squeaks and seemingly squirming in a need to get away from something. of course, as her eyes slid to the side, she noticed a garchomp trying to get into the water, but being firmly rebuffed by a dragonair and it was starting to get ugly. before she could move to intercept, she heard a whelp and turned around to see the fierce, respectable gym leader... look very much like a lost child asking mom for help.

she tried to smother her giggles, but didn't quite succeed, as she pulled out two balls this time. one ball reveals a jynx, who drifts towards the water after cordelia waves towards it. the other ball reveals a scizor, whom immediately picks up two deinos that were sneaking up on the pair of humans. it was an easy task to shuttle them back to their area. after doing so - and perhaps bonking a few on the head to get them to behave - the scizor comes back to see if he is needed to assist on something else.

"ok, so, where do we want to start? because I get the feeling it's worse if we go further in - so maybe solving the issues out here first would be a good idea?" she said, her tone slightly questioning. she was a bit unsure, but so far it seemed like everything could go smoothly, if not a bit bumpily. they certainly won't fail the mission, is what she means.

but, things always have the time to go south.

He’d very nearly missed the Deino trying to sneak up on him had Carina not suddenly produced a purple-colored Pollen Puff and was pretty much ready to chuck it at the biting dragon native to his home region had it not been snatched up by a Scizor and scuttled back to the Deino holding pen.[break][break]

“Let’s work our way inward,” he agrees with a nod, and thankfully, the purple Pollen Puff that the Ribombee had conjured up hadn’t been tossed—at least not yet. “Carina, go over and help the Dragonair, will you? Try not to poison the Garchomp, though,” he adds a few moments later.[break][break]

With a little flitting noise, the floating purple ball—which is actually the Pollen Puff held by the very small Ribombee—goes towards the pool where the Dratini are squealing out of shock at the big, ugly Garchomp who was trying to get into their bathing pool![break][break]

“Alright, time to get real,” he mutters, and with several more flicks three more Pokéballs pop open from his direction. Out of the first one a Magmortar emerges, breathing out a huff of smoke; while the second materializes into a Braviary. The third one coalesces into a Riolu, who lands close to where he is.[break][break]

“Agni, can you help Carina by the water? Don’t go in the pond, just—get the Garchomp away from there. Kyouya, go see if there are any more misbehaving dragons that need tending to further in,” he says to two of the three, and the two Pokémon disperse in their assigned directions.[break][break]

This leaves Alexei with the Riolu, and he turns to look at his companion. “My companions have that side covered, let’s go in,” he says presently, pointing to the deeper bowels of the estate.

Of all the things Orion might put down on his resume, dragon trainer wasn't one of them. With a fresh-caught Deino in his arsenal, he figured it was better now than never to start learning. There had to be a first for everything.

He can't help but to be intimidated by the size and grandeur of the estate. It makes him feel very small and very, very poor as he approaches, his Pokemon carefully tucked away in their balls so as not to be seen as some kind of threat. He greets the guards rather awkwardly, but they're nothing if not professional — he's permitted entrance with a hand wave and an assurance that he's not the first to arrive. This is perhaps the least comforting thing they could have told him.

He doesn't expect to recognize anyone as he steps onto the grounds, but he does — by sight, if nothing else. He'd lived in Fortree for years now, long enough to recognize its gym leader.

"Oh — hello," he says, rather shyly. "It's... Alexei, right? Do you, uh, need a hand with anything?"

After all, Alexei's the gym leader of his town. If he's going to defer to any authority, it's going to be his, and he doesn't have a doubt in his mind that the other man is far more capable at handling things with wings.

He frequently saw this man’s face around town, sometimes meeting up with a familiar spiky-haired individual before leaving to go off on important things.[break][break]

“If you know how to handle extremely rowdy dragons, please,” he pleaded, gesturing behind him at the mayhem—while the Ribombee did her best to drive back the Garchomp from entering the pool and setting off the brood of Dratini that were bathing there, the Magmortar then fired off a Confuse Ray at the incoming Garchomp, its attempt to drive away the intruding Garchomp.[break][break]

The Braviary had gone in deeper, finding a bunch of neglected Gible wailing for food, and let out a cry of alarm—as the Gible were now fighting each other. Quickly flying back to where Alexei was, the Braviary let out a frightened screech, pointing in the direction of the Gible brood he’d discovered.[break][break]

“Trouble over there. Let’s go,” he said to the familiar face, not having a name yet to call him by.[break][break]

Whoops.[break][break]

He had to correct that sooner or later, right?

Orion's laugh is strangled in his throat, a hand coming up to rub anxiously at the back of his neck. "Now's the time to learn, I guess?"

So, no, he didn't have experience handling rowdy dragons — unless training his Deino not to literally bite the hand that fed it counts — but it's clear that this is a situation too complex for one man to handle, even if that man was a skilled gym leader. Besides, Orion's a ranger, and while dragon-types might be rare, it's unrealistic to assume he'll never have to deal with one.

It's overwhelming, and Orion doesn't know where to start, but thankfully Alexei takes the lead.

"Right," he agrees, releasing Katas from his Pokeball and starting toward the trouble.

His Pokedex pings as he holds it up, quickly scanning through the provided information for anything that might be of us. He sends out his Weavile, Chei, and quickly barks an order. "They don't like the cold. Give me some Icy Wind."

Not having been told to attack the little dragons directly, Chei instead aims the brunt of his attack into the air. An icy wind blows through the grounds and makes Orion shiver, seeming to affect the poor Gible as well. Dragons hated the cold. It wasn't much, but hopefully it helped.

The wind turned chilly, which forced some of the hungrier Gible to stop—yet there were still a few duking it out because they wanted to show who could lead the bunch. The Braviary came swooping in—never mind if the wind was damned cold—and began screeching at them, eventually causing Alexei to catch up to where he’d gone off to.[break][break]

“Oi, OI!” he began, pulling out another whistle from inside his jacket and blowing a single blast on it—one that was heard by all humans and Pokémon in the vicinity. “Calm down! And stop killing each other!” Alexei called out over the noise they were making. “You’re just making yourselves even hungrier!”[break][break]

No wonder Miss Freya needs help reining them all in, she can’t handle them all by herself! He thought with a tired shake of his head. What was he going to do with these rowdy, misbehaving dragons? It was a shame he didn’t bring most of his own personal army that were half Dragon-types themselves, this would’ve been much easier if he had more intimidating figures with him.[break][break]

A familiar roar shook the skies, and that caused the arguing Gible to shrivel up and stop arguing. Alexei looked up and saw that it was his Salamence, incoming for a landing and looking extremely huffy.[break][break]

“What, more trouble?” he inquired, hoping this wasn’t the case.[break][break]

The Salamence then roared again at the mess of Gible who were now ready to shit themselves because of the big, scary, flying Dragon-type bearing down on them.[break][break]

“Well, that was quick,” he added, hiding the whistle back under his shirt. “Maybe I should ask you to calm everyone else down, then,” he went on, giving the Salamence a nice long neck rub.

Orion flinches at the sharp sound of the whistle, not having expected it. Thankfully, it seemed to have had a similar effect on a few of the bickering dragons... but not all of them, unfortunately.

The mighty roar of a dragon-type was less alarming, given their location, and Orion glances to the skies to see a freaking Salamence diving down toward them. It's an intimidating sight even if he does assume it means no harm, given that it's not directing its wrath toward the trainers. It's not until Alexei addresses the dragon directly that it clicks: Oh, it belongs to him.

Orion's very outclassed, here.

Still, he'd been given a job and he'd be damned if he wasn't going give it his all.

"What do they eat, do you know?" he asks the gym leader, having recovered from the awe of seeing the Salamence descend from the skies. "I can go in there and try and settle them."

Approaching a small horde of hungry dragons, even as small as Gible were, wasn't exactly his idea of a dream job, but what could you do?

“When they’re young, they don’t mind eating Berries… but apparently when they grow older and evolve, their diet tends to go for… I’ve heard some feed their Gabite Magikarp or Basculin fillets. Some of them like meat. Dragon-types have a very mixed diet, but they need their energy, definitely,” he replied.[break][break]

It was good he remembered what the diets of some of these were, having prepared himself to own them down the road. But it seemed that luck didn’t favor him… at least not yet.[break][break]

Maybe someday in the future.[break][break]

The question now was, was there enough fish to go around to feed them?[break][break]

And what had happened to the other Pokémon he’d sent out to handle the rowdy Dragon-types? He hadn’t heard back from his Braviary in a while, and he hoped that the avian had managed to calm the other young dragons down.[break][break]

“There’s Berry bushes everywhere, it’s finding where the fish are stored that’s the problem. You know how Dragon-types are when they’re growing up. They teeth everywhere… in Bagon’s case they tend to fling themselves from high places in some mimicry of trying to fly,” he added a few moments later.[break][break]

“I’ll keep them calm as long as I can, I’m sure Gabriel here can manage that,” he continued, and looking over at where the Gible were, they were now huddled somewhere, staring at the Salamence out of fright because said Salamence was giving them all the best stink eye he could manage.

Orion nods along as Alexei explains the typical diet of dragon-types, making mental notes for the Deino he currently had at home. It was a vicious thing; maybe correcting potential dietary issues could help? Then again, the Pokedex informed him that they were blind and thus used their teeth as a means of navigating their surroundings.

"Well, I've got berries in my bag," he says, gesturing. He always carries an ample supply due to his job as a ranger. You never knew when fresh berries could come in handy! "But if they prefer fish, I can take a look around and see if there's not some kind of food storage... somewhere."

He blinks at the mention of Bagon, suddenly feeling sorry for the dragons.

"Deino are blind, Bagon want to fly... they really get a rough lot until they evolve, huh?"

He excuses himself to go and hunt down the supply of fish, looking around for a minute before resigning himself to asking for help. He remembers the man who'd told him where to go, eventually tracking the individual down and asking if he knew where the food stores could be found. That guy didn't know, but he directed Orion to someone who did, and it's several minutes later that he finds himself half-jogging back to where Alexei and Gabriel are holding down the fort.

"Sorry," he manages, bucket of fillets in hand. "This place is huge, took longer than—woah there, OK then."

He interrupts himself as several hungry dragonlings suddenly swarm their location, and the ranger backs up a step before dipping his hand into the bucket and tossing a few fish to the group. They snap and snarl at one another, each attempting to take the finest cut of fish, but Orion doesn't think he can do anything to prevent that.

"I hope this calms them down a bit..."

Thankfully, Gabriel’s stink eye was more than enough to keep them pinned down because holy shit, when a Salamence used Intimidate, boy did he really bring out the best glare he could muster. The young draconids were staring at the Salamence out of respect—were some of them backing away because of fear?[break][break]

While Orion had gone to hunt the fish fillets down, he had gone to get some Berries and was busy rolling them toward the little ones when Orion returned with buckets of meat and fish.[break][break]

Immediately the other man was swarmed at the smell of the fish, but a singular roar from the Salamence caused them all to quiet down and start accepting the slices of fish that were being handed out.[break][break]

“Clearly, discipline also looks to be an issue with them,” Alexei noted with a frown. “Yeah,” he continued as he returned his attention to Orion, “…sometimes they need a firm, guiding hand to rein them in. Thank goodness Gabriel can keep them calm, on the most part—here, let me help you,” he offered as he made his way over and took a bucket for his own, throwing down the fillets as a swarm of young Bagon approached him.[break][break]

They were clearly in awe of the Salamence, however Gabriel wasn’t amused at the way they were behaving.[break][break]

The Salamence continued to give all young dragonlings assembled the best stink eye he could muster as they stopped fighting and continued to eat quietly.
