Knowing the other, he would’ve bought quite a lot of candy but this.

This was unbelievable.

(And he still had that giant jar of jellybeans to go through! Whoops!)

“Frog,” he blinked quietly at the vast array of candy that had been spread out all over the countertop. “This is… are you sure this wasn’t on sale because it’s about to expire?!”

You never know!

(For what it’s worth, he thought he saw a couple of Rage Candy Bars in the mix…)

“I know you want to celebrate Halloween and all, but I want to make it to Christmas with my teeth!” he chuckled a few moments later.

Growing up religious meant that much of the traditional experiences of Halloween were lost on his family. Nothing to do with ghouls, spooks, witches, and werewolves was celebrated in the Marceliño household. Sure, there was a smattering of other holidays they honored, but much of it was overshadowed by the proximity to massive amounts of family members.

So, okay, maybe he did go a little overboard.

“Who knows how many kids we’ll get this year,” he said, sorting the goodies into piles based on food allergen content (he wanted to account for the kids who couldn’t have peanut butter, too). He had the gall to add, “Plus, we can always donate the extra!” knowing full well they would not donate the extra to any charitable organization that was not their own stomachs.

“Donate? You mean we’ll demolish it all after everyone’s all trick or treated out for the night!” he teased, grabbing one of the Rage Candy Bars and peeling it open to take a bite… he was that hungry, yes!

He continued to watch the insanity as his partner continued to segregate the candy by… there had to be a system to the madness, right?

“Are you sorting them by flavor or something?” he mused after he’d taken a couple of bites of the bar.

“And of course I get the first rights to taste-test these!” he added, dancing just a little bit out of the other man’s reach in case he made a grab for the candy he was eating.

“You know…” he hummed while he was out of his partner’s reach and finished the candy he was holding.

“It was just one bar!” he added a few moments later. “Not like I’ll go through the entire bag and finish it all in one go,” he followed up.

Still, he thought it was very cute and considerate of the other to sort all the candy by allergen content… until he realized something.

“Wait, are you going by individual or grouped allergens? I know some of them have a lot listed,” he hummed as he made his way back, pocketing the candy bar wrapper in his mouth to look at the handiwork the other had done so far.

“Well, it’s easy to see which has nuts and which doesn’t,” he agreed as he looked over the piles of candy.

“Kinda sucks that there are people who’re allergic to like, eggs. Or chocolate. Imagine being allergic to fucking chocolate, how do you even live if you have that kind of an allergy?!”

He then hummed as he picked through some of the candies and began sorting it too—unknowingly sorting it between two piles as well; piles of the ones he’d eat, and piles of his partner’s favorites.

“Isn’t it time we caught up to all of that, then?” he mused quietly with this smile on his face.

While he was busy sorting, he couldn’t help but sneak another small piece while he was at it—look, he was hungry again!

Chuckling quietly, he then looked over at the repurposed ‘cat’ tower, where most of (if not all) of his own Eeveelutions were contorted or squished into various forms of rest.

“What, you wanna dress ‘em up like the seven sisters from The Little Mermaid?” he cackled. Well, some of his own Eeveelution army were male, so it would be a mix of female and male merfolk, then!

“Or do you have any better ideas other than Snow Wooloo and the Seven Kids?” he cackled again, realizing that the ovine herd would probably throw a shit fit if they weren’t dressed up, either.

“I could definitely swear we were going to have Snow White and the Evil King, not Queen, because Will and Smokey are gay and they have a lot of kids who were practically the Seven Wooloo dwarves…” he trailed off as he realized that he remembered how they slapped together little felt hats for the other Wooloo and practically had a cape inspired by the Evil Queen specially made for Smokey to wear!

And then there was William wearing a decidedly male version of Snow White’s outfit, who absolutely stole the goddamned show last year!

“Well… if we’re doing The Little Mermaid, we have a lot of Pokémon to dress up this y—whoa!” he yelped as he was suddenly pulled into his partner’s lap.

And then, right on cue, that stupid blush of his gave him away all too quickly, because he was getting riled up again due to the physical contact!

“Uhm…” he stammered himself into silence, his face speaking for itself.

All the candy was on the table behind them, forgotten—for the moment.
