Oh, if there was another month in the year he absolutely did not like, it was this one.

Unlike May (for reasons kept secret), October was just. Full of heebie-jeebies every-fucking where. That dark corner with a pair of ominous eyes staring out of them?

He was sure that wasn’t Loki the Sableye, because aforementioned Sableye had red gems for eyes.

(Why did everything have to be supernatural for this month?! Yeesh. Couldn’t a guy catch a break?!)

He couldn’t help but hide behind the couch, because there was… there was something inside their bedroom that was creeping him the fuck out.

“Can…can…can you check… out what that noise is?”

(Cue the screaming cat face here.)

The dog-cat dichotomy of their relationship was never more apparent than during October, where Memo threw himself face first into all the ooky-spooky vibes, whereas Alex would not come near them with a nine and a half foot pole.

Memo had gotten pretty good at ignoring the voices in his head-- the ones that materialized out of the hum of their AC unit and multiple fans and may-or-may-not have been real. So he was half-dozing when Alex woke him.

He threw an arm over his scared boyfriend and snuggled closer, hoping his presence would calm the man enough to relax and sleep.

Unfortunately, the noise, for what it was worth, only grew louder the longer he stayed awake…

He then let out a cry of dismay as he immediately snuggled up to the other—his only shield from all the weird and creepy shit that was tumbling around every which way when this month was concerned.

“I don’t like that noise, love, save me…” he whined as he buried his face deeper into his boyfriend’s hold; good luck getting him away from you now!

Why did it feel like his spooky-radar was on high alert?!

It didn’t take long before this strange voice spoke from out of nowhere.

“Red, or blue?”

Unfortunately, it seemed Alex was not going to be swayed by Memo’s paltry platitudes, and only managed to maneuver them so the smaller man was poised on top as a sort of meat-shield against the phantoms in the AC unit.

Memo blinked his bleary eyes and braced an arm against the bed to push himself up. “Mmm, what? Okay, okay, I’m awake.” It only took a few more seconds until he was well and truly awake, pushing back onto his knees and glaring over his shoulder at the air conditioner as though to discern from where the voice was coming.

“Yeah, I hear it now,” he said, “what the actual fuck?”

Said noise would only continue to get louder the longer they lingered on it.

“Red, or blue?” it repeated, the reverberation of the voice causing the aforementioned air conditioning unit to rattle in place. It was like the thing was about to fly off its hinges…

“D-d-d-d-d-d-did the AC unit… talk?!” he wailed, mentally crossing his fingers and hoping that it wasn’t so. He definitely did not want to be faced by another ghost so early on…

“I-I-I-I think we should… pick,” he breathed out quietly.

“Blue.”

Who knows what would happen, right?

Memo made a very distinguished shriek of alarm as a horde of purple ooze emerged in their bedroom.

And then it dawned on him why his partner had literally screamed like a girl.

“Y-you might want to c-calm down!” he exclaimed, reaching for the bedside table and throwing out a random Pokéball; which then transformed into…

Carina, the Ribombee.

Who absolutely did not like being woken up from her beauty sleep!

“Carina! I know! I’m sorry! Can you help?!” he continued, his voice going up several octaves as the rank stench of the Poison Gas began to linger—and she immediately wasted no time; never mind if she was a Fairy-type (partially) and knew that Poison-types would fuck her over.

The cloying, overpowering Sweet Scent propelled from the tiny Ribombee’s wings then began to fill their bedroom; hopefully the damned Swalot would just… go away!

“You need me to open a window or something so we can yeet all the Swalot out?!” he exclaimed, looking over at his panicking, near-hysterics partner.

Estornio’s whirlwind swept the Swalot up as flinging purple smears. Carina’s sweet scent perfumed the room but really just acted like bad air freshener.

The little Sableye flung open the window. The Swalot-tornado began to tip and turn towards the opening, rattling everything in the room and making the blackout curtains flare on their rods.

He could only blink, and stare at his partner like a madman possessed.

Without a second thought, he tore himself from the bed as he made a mad dash towards where the blackout curtains were now rattling on the holder; before whistling a particularly sharp note exactly once before a pair of glittering red eyes winked and appeared from his shadow.

“Loki! Go!” was all he would say next, before his Sableye extracted himself from his idiot human’s shadow and helped the other Sableye with driving away the multitude of Swalot that had unceremoniously decided to appear in their shared bedroom.

“Carina, turn up the perfume!” he added a few moments afterward; and while the Ribombee was pissed for being disturbed from her beauty sleep, a huff and a sigh would crank up the Sweet Scent to an even higher intensity that it already had been applied earlier.

Loki bounced up to the window and began snagging Swalot-gloops on his claws and saucing them out the window like a cartoon pizza chef throwing flattened dough made of Grimace shakes. They whistled as they flew out the window and hit the ground below, splat, splat, splat.

Once the last of the purple vermin was removed from their living quarters, Memo finally inhaled and exhaled deeply, letting Carina’s sweet scent calm his frayed nerves, slightly.
