[googlefont=Yuji Boku]Kitakami Demon Clan

To some, mythical monsters. To others, glorified goons.

The Kitakami Demon Clan is, as the name suggests, a clan of "demons" who have lived within Kitakami for more than five hundred years. Within, they think themselves revolutionaries, bearers of demonic blood and name alike, who have freed themselves from the yoke of a corrupt civilisation. Without, they are thought to be brutish bandits and lowly criminals, savage pests who give the villagers and common folk yet another reason to avoid the treacherous Oni Mountain. The truth of the matter? Well, it likely lands somewhere in the middle. Or perhaps it lands so far off the mark that neither side is truly correct? As the mists clear and legends become reality, only then will the answer become clear...

Residing within the rugged wilds of Oni Mountain, the Kitakami Demon Clan is a group of many families bound together by a common distaste for society. Be they rebels, outcasts, criminals, or simply unable to live within the confines of law and convention, they were incompatible with the rapidly approaching future. Some were banished, while others left of their own free will, but in the end, they all forsook their humanity. If this was the way that the world was going, where the strongest grew more powerful while the weakest were left to languish, then they would rather be demons than men.

Surely, surely there had to be more? Surely, beyond this miserable village, there had to better and greater things? A world beyond Kitakami that made their struggles worth fighting for?

Several centuries on, many of the details of their codes and creeds have changed with passing generations, but the overarching shape of their beliefs remained the same, save for their optimistic belief of a better world beyond the horizon. With time, that high-minded ideal began to find in the face of sheer pragmatism. The revolutionaries became few, and the bandits many. The dream of the uncertain faraway was crushed under the heel of certain and comfortable survival. Even now, the Kitakami Demon Clan isolate themselves within their untamed homeland, hidden away from the rest of the world. It is not a glamorous life, but in their eyes, it is a good one.

So then, one may ponder - How might these isolated backwater savages from Kitakami end up on Hoenn - a faction-based Pokemon roleplay?:
ADVENTURE: While most of the clan are content to remain where they are, some still remember that dream of what lay beyond Kitakami. It might be prompted by strange trainers venturing into Oni Mountain, or by clan members breaking taboo to visit the villages. Some might meditate on their choice to leave for years, while others might make a split-second decision to see the world beyond. Either way, they inevitably find their way onto a train or boat or plane or bus that brings them somewhere else. Much like, for instance, herself.
BONDS: Whether it's family seeking to retrieve one of their own wanderers, or vengeful warriors seeking to repay travellers, it's not uncommon for one departure to lead to another. Some do eventually return, while others also decide to remain, but in the end, they're in Hoenn all the same. An easy hook for your character would be for them to be related to , and coming to Hoenn to follow her.
EXILED: Not all that are born into this life want it. Just as their ancestors could not bear to live in civilisation, they could not bear to live outside it. These are the ones who forsake the clan and rejoin society, often discarding their Dōji name in favour of a normal one. Some leave on good terms, some leave on bad, but no matter the situation, clan members and the "exiled" always carry a tension with them.

Common traits of the Kitakami Demon Clan, especially those of the former two types, include Japanese names with the -Dōji suffix, a blunt and uncomplicated demeanour, a general lack of understanding of modern technology and society, and non-human traits such as horns (typically fake). The latter can be more complicated and diverse, but hey, can't we all?
