[break][break] For more than five hundred years, her family lived in Kitakami.[break][break] The people of Kitakami called them ogres, monsters and beasts that killed humans and ate their flesh. They, on the other hand, preferred to think themselves rebels, warrior revolutionaries clad in demonic masks, who sought to live free from the yoke of a corrupt society. In reality, the truth lay somewhere in the middle - They were bandits, thieves and criminals who chafed against their petty lives in a petty land. In those bygone days, where all they knew of the world was Kitakami, they sought something more.[break][break]
But they never found it. Once upon a time, the world really was too small to make their dreams come true. Eventually, idealistic minds were beaten back by more practical thinkers. How could they think of venturing off to the horizon when they could barely scrape out a living where they were? Thus, the dream was consigned to forever be a dream, and the treacherous peaks and caves of Oni Mountain remained home.[break][break]
Years, decades, centuries passed. The villagers came to believe that the bandits truly were monsters, and then with time, they came to realise that was nothing but a myth. Kitakami made contact with the outside world, and over time, technology and infrastructure began to creep into the backwater village, and culture began to creep out. Even still, it remained little more than an obscure little blip in the middle of nowhere.[break][break]
A child was born, grew up, married, and had children of her own. She lived, she loved, she laughed, and she cried. She held her children in her arms, and held their hands as they visited the grave of her husband. Some of her children stayed to support her clan, while others left to seek out a life of their own. She lived just as her ancestors had, ever since they had first set foot upon this mountain. She could not complain.[break][break]
And then, one day, she happened upon a suitcase discarded at the peak of the mountain. She didn't know who owned it, nor did she know why it had been left there, but she wasn't one to complain. So, she claimed it as her own, opened it, and laid claim to the contents inside.[break][break]
Including a return ticket to a distant land known as Hoenn. Thus, a centuries-old dream was reignited, and the woman was given the opportunity to see the world beyond, just as her forefathers had always wanted.[break][break]
She didn't even stop to say goodbye before she set off to greet the brave new world..[break][break]
