These days, entire realities exist inside of computers. They came with sights, smells, and tangible tokens of their existence. As the mercenary approaches the loading area of the RKS system he admits to some feelings of anxiety. To surrender control to binary is a difficult concept. [break][break]

Still, he does as the scientist requests without hesitation. A nod of acknowledgment is given to his jump partner as he sinks into the simulation. When his eyes open, he faces a strange woman. Her expression is illegible and her question is nonsense. “The Hexenzirkel?” His lips press together. Immediately, Kazuya’s hand drops to his belt, and the blade nestled into it. Only as his fingers tighten on the handle does he realize the words are his own. In this reality, his voice persists.[break][break]

Golden eyes slide over to the elderly woman beside him. His respect for his elders runs deep, and he believes her better suited to make the decision than he. The numbers do not frighten him. Battle is rarely fair.

Though Marilyn was estranged from the very concept of technology, the closest thing dear to her being automotive machines and old-fashioned guns, going into the simulation was met with a desire to be open-minded to whatever it was said to present. It was strange being hooked up to such advanced machinery; though, her wish to be open-minded was fueled by the claims made by the system itself. There were claims that her physical abilities could be enhanced upon entry. If it were true that she'd be able to walk again without a cane, even perhaps being able to run as if she were in her twenties, being exposed to such foreign probes would all be worth it.[break][break]

Maybe this is what all those young girls whined about being deprived of in the final moments of being jailed, the longing for video games that the granny could never wrap her brain around. The feeling in her legs, when she'd entered, felt unlike they ever did once she hit the big five-o; she grinned and giggled profusely when she realized, tossing the manifestation of her cane into the abyss that accompanied the prolific scenery. And to top it all off, the woman who greeted them looked just as old-fashioned and decadent as she wished the rest of the younger generations to dress from what she could see through the shadows. Modest, even if her words were quite confusing.[break][break]

She shot the white-haired man beside her a bewildered look at first, but decided to go in full-hearted, no matter how obscure. But what in hell was a hexenzirkie? "We know plentiful things about the Hexen.. zirkel, yes! In the right place we are, dear." She said confidently, albeit extremely confused as to what she was referring to. All the more questions to ask when the two were to return from the simulation, no doubt. Unless the woman was to elaborate.

[attr="class","kazu2"]When Marilyn tosses her cane aside, Kazuya allows himself a smile. While he did not understand this world, he could see its benefits. But its dangers were laid similarly bare. It was a pit of quicksand to the malcontented. A place to escape the drudgery and problems of reality. No more beneficial than the broken men in prison who descended into madness or illicit drugs. [break][break]

The giant of a man stands motionless beside the grandmother. “Hm.” Golden eyes stare boldly ahead into the eyes of the mystery woman before them. When she answers in the affirmative, Kazuya responds with a single, resolute nod. Then, the world unravels before him. Shadows gain eyes—too many. Arms that are too long threaten to crush them in their embrace. Images of his imprisonment come to mind.[break][break]

Arms strapping his to a table. The sounds of his furious screams as a chock is shoved between his teeth. That ever-lasting eternity of solitary, deep darkness. As an arm nears him, he bats it away with a growl. An arm moves as if to guard Marilyn. [break][break]
But, in the end, they are too many. The room around them fades into nothingness as he falls into a sea of inky, absolute black.

The smiles of her companion were infectious, bringing her to grin from ear to ear as she looked up at him; there was a considerable size difference between the two, bringing her to giggle, too. Watching as the decadent, modest woman left her seat at the table alongside those endowed in the shadows, she was initially unaware of what they wished to accomplish with their clapping but was flattered nevertheless. "Ah, takes me back to all that damn clapping back when I was released those months ago, ahh," she said with a gargled giggle, ".. I love guns, ghosties, and glory, baby. And I'm not ashamed to take gifts from you all, got anything to hand over, mm?"[break][break]

Marilyn anticipated ample gifts to be provided to her, the same as those given when she showed promise and potential in her endeavors as a mere grunt. But the words that followed hers were just as oddly endearing as they were completely odd, ignoring her confident claims; what did they mean, their presence was an anomaly in such a seemingly artificial world? What would be able to perceive them in such a technological simulation, when Team Rocket were the ones to commandeer such devices? At least the voices claimed they would offer to hide them from such things, but her curious mind led her to wonder.[break][break]

"What in Arceus' wretched name?" She said, being cut off by the emergence of hands and arms in the endless black, manifesting outward like flying french hens. Their grasp was warm, strangely comforting. Trying to catch a glimpse of her companion with a wish to make sure he was alright, the limbs cut off her vision one by one until there was nothing left. Trying to shout, her words came out muffled. And then they fell, brought to their next destination of the foreign sensations.

It finally notices you. A SPIRITOMB emerges from the cracked stone, its malevolent smile set against a spectral swirl. Souls whip in and out of its shape...

[attr="class","kazu2"]It's like being submerged in a pit of vipers. Hands with too many fingers threaten to swim into his open maw. Mouths made of shadow whisper forgotten secrets in his ears. Through the rips in the darkness, he sees nothing but wide eyes staring back. It made him feel like a laboratory rat—a thousand jeering eyes locked on him. Golden eyes squeeze closed. [break][break]

For a moment, there is silence. The sensation of whispering is replaced with the briefest burst of nothing. His heartbeat becomes deafening, as he is left alone with nothing but his thoughts. Then, a cool, damp wind pricks at his skin. Kazuya’s nostrils detect a smell. It represents a junction between loamy earth, decay, and rotting corpse. As his eyes open, they are caught by the green-purple light that now surrounds them. The mercenary turns toward Marilyn to ensure she is unharmed.[break][break]

He smiles. There is an embarrassed heat on his cheeks. The manhandling at the hand of spirits reminds him of imprisonment. It tastes of powerlessness.[break][break]

The ethereal heat of a greenish flame draws across his face. “. . .” His frown deepened as the mercenary’s gaze fixated on the spirit before him.[break][break]

While his father’s side was comprised of kindlers, his maternal family is made up of powerful mediums. From a young age, he has been taught to respect the dead and the spiritual. It is for this reason he leaves coins or food upon every shrine he passes. But this thing flies into the face of such lessons. It takes souls and corrupts them. From his back, he withdraws what looks to be a weighted staff.[break][break]

A ball bursts open at his side as a towering Bewear takes the stage. Golden eyes flick pointedly to the keystone. By shattering it, he hopes to dissolve whatever tethers this corruption to this place. Again, he throws a gaze at the elder woman. A respectful nod follows. May I?

Much like the one that she had ventured into the simulation with, getting manhandled by all of those shadowy hands reminded her of the powerlessness she felt when she was tucked behind the walls of the prison. Unable to move, unable to see, unable to breathe without the grace of another with far more influence than she could ever acquire; it was a warm sensation, yes, but she still did not understand why they would need protection in a place said to be so artificial. But the spectral tides changed, bringing them to a room filled to the brim with graves and dull moonlit illumination.[break][break]

As Kazu turned to meet her gaze, she picked herself up with her freshly respawned cane and swept some of the dust off of her shoulders. "All good, dear. Such an odd feeling, it was quite distasteful," she smiled, joining him at his side as he placed offerings upon the tombstones, ".. but that is such a kind gesture, showing respect unto those that have passed on." Despite how she ultimately did not respect the ones who had passed due to her and rocket's endeavors, seeing him place coins and food on the graves was quite endearing. After all, there was no context to lead them to believe they were not in a place untouched by misdoings, as it was quite the ordinary spectacle. There was no need to spit on the graves as all the inscriptions were those she had not recognized or grown distaste or bitterness toward.[break][break]

But a Spiritomb appeared, a collective of spirits belonging to a keystone; though she was quite fond of subjugating eerie beasts of that nature, this one, in particular, was known to ultimately lash out at anyone. Known to bring corruption and take souls to form the weave a consciousness of 108. Even with its chaotic onlooking, Marilyn could not help but giggle in delight at his request and the unsheathing of his weaponry. Respect was felt, so respect had to be given back tenfold. "Oh absolutely, dear! Go for it," she said with an elderly rasp, "you're so sweet to ask."

You hear voices crawling out from the tombstones: "500 years... 500 years... 500 years..."[break][break]

As the Pokemon pursues you, it attempts to DESTINY BOND you and your Pokemon before the next shift.

As his hand unfurled atop it, he patted it with the fondness of an old hound .”Hm.” Kazuya’s response did not come quickly. Eventually, the man continued. “Respect costs us nothing.” To any ghosts who watched, it offered a sign of remembrance. And, even if there was no afterlife, the offerings did little harm.Not so long ago, I would have walked on by. Perhaps they made fun of the graves.

This stood in stark contrast to the Spiritomb in front of them. Its greedy, voracious existence kept 108 souls from their final destination. The fiery ball of soul lashed out at him. “Thank you.” The stick snapped outward to bat the attack away. Ignoring the singing sting across his cheek, he gestured Natsu forward. With a roar, the bear swung for the ghost-type’s face. In that same movement, Kazuya swung the stick at the seal stone.

Souls began to pour from it as its adhesion began to fade. As he gestured Marilyn forward, he jogged backward from it. An angry swipe was parried away. “Go!” Just as he lifted an arm to guard his face, the world spun out of focus. The heat was a fading memory. 500 years of what?

It was true, being that respect cost those in the mortal world nothing- she wished for all of those blessed with the concept of youth to be more like Kazu, for many did not seem to be able to grasp such a concept, especially when it came to those met with decay and old age. Yet, she was similarly a defiler of graves; those who had wronged her while they were still alive deserved to be spat upon and have their bones stolen from the casket, constructed into items that would be able to wade off the spirits that once encompassed the ivory and those that wish to further inhabit them. The graves that shone beside them deserved respect, however, much like the one that was to perform the exorcism. The only one that seemed to be malicious, both in the past and the present, was the Spiritomb.[break][break]

Watching the skilled fight against the spectral housing of the 108 souls and those that previously took root inside of it, Marilyn whipped her Honedge out from its sheath and held onto it, the ribbon wrapping around her aged arm. He seemed to have it handled- no need to send her beloved dagger into the fray to face off against its vicious counterparts. "Bound for 500 years perhaps," she said softly, ".. I could never imagine." Ten times the sentence she was made to serve- a fate she would not wish on a soul, for death was better than such misery.[break][break]

The world spun fast enough, alongside the familiar plugging of her ears, to avoid such a grim song.

After the transition, you find yourself on an endless staircase. Each step glows bright with divine light. Gazing down at your feet, you realize the stair treads are transparent. Vertigo grips your stomach as you realize you are at an impossible height—but beneath you is what appears to be an endless void. If Hoenn was below you, it is so far away that it would be an indiscernible speck.[break][break]

The first few steps you take play high, haunting notes like piano keys. To the trained ear, they would hear the notes: G, C, F, C, G, E, B, F#.[break][break]

[attr="class","kazu2"]The man’s lips tilt downward at Marilyn’s translation. His own five years felt like an eternity. And they had only captured his body. To lose one’s own soul? “I cannot imagine.” To serve a sentence so long he could not imagine it, that would be true horror. “I wish them peace.” As the world began to fade around them, the mercenary’s hand furled into a fist. Tight lines of frustration formed around his lips as his Bewear came to stand beside him.

“Let us see where it takes us.” With a steadying breath, he moves up to Marilyn’s side. Then, before he can comment on her sword, the world vanishes.

When his eyes adjust, he finds himself balanced on a transparent staircase. Even he balks at the sudden feeling of vertigo. But, as he calms, he begins to appreciate the land around them. It is beautiful. A truly stunning sight, even if it is—as they claim—mere pixels. A foot slides backward, duplicating the F#. Shaking his head, Kazuya pushes himself forward.

“Nothing is ever gained by going back.” He offers a hand to her as he moves a few more feet upward. “Lean on me if you need to.” With a vicious, determined grin, his Bewear rushes forward toward the top of the stairs. When he pivots, it’s with a taunt. Hurry up, losers! The bear’s mannerisms say.
