“Councilman Silph!” he greets cheerfully, only to frown in the next turn. “Or I guess gym leader Silph is better here.” Lam corrects himself easily, letting the frowny expression slip away as he meets the other man on the pitch.[break][break]

“Glad to see you made it out here too.” Of course, he expected no less of Slateport’s gym leader, given his encouragement in their group chat that the whole lot of them participate and promote the camaraderie the whole tournament invites.[break][break]

His pidove looks tiny next to the competition, but that does little to intimidate them. Pops has faced off against plenty of opponents several times her size, and held her own just fine–win or loss.

he can count the amount they’ve interact directly on paper money. and not his paper money, but rather the common poke that now spends freely in lilycove’s streets. but fernando silph is well aware of the gym leader who sits at hoenn’s table of eight.

tales of his prowess in the air gives him the unofficial moniker of the league’s AERIAL ACES. a title not given out lightly given his predecessor, the FORTREE GYM LEADER, is not given the same grace. or perhaps it is due to the former’s reluctance to involve themselves where others dive in freely?

“i suspect you’ve had your taste of the DYNAMAX phenomenon?”

his partner is more cumbersome in comparison. the GLALIE is far from daunting but supersizing it makes it seem infinitely more intimidating.

Of FERNANDO SILPH's designated moniker for him, Lam is somewhat blithely unaware. He has simply been doing what feels right to do - helping where he's needed despite the pressure it brings. That newfound weight on his shoulders.[break][break]
“Sure have!” He nods, amiable despite the way Silph’s glalie swells up in size to leave his pidove looking like a Durant in its shadow in comparison.[break][break]
“No for myself, but seeing it in action? It’s no joke!” Unlike some of the other gym leaders, he’s curious about it. Enthusiastic in finding ways to safely utilize the skill—if that’s possible.[break][break]
He’s already seen it in real time when he squared off against Genevieve Cromwell, and so his curiosity wins out again here.[break][break]
The pidove takes initiative, surging up higher into the air. Fluttering in front of one wide, blue eye before she sends a rolling HEATWAVE at the glalie.[break][break]

“SIMPLE,” seems sufficient considering it’s widespread usage during the tournament. for all the concerns and worries spouted by their peers, they have been few incidents thus far. only in the throe of battle, under the blistering fervor of war, does it seem to hold its weight.

“battle routine set!”

the HEAT WAVE cuts a firm line across the GLALIE’s white surface. burn marks surface but it seems minuscule against the great expanse of its fortified forehead.

“execute!”

and, in proportion, the ICE SHARDS its fires are scaled just as big.

His head tilts, curious. “Simple?” It’s an interesting choice to him. While the dynamaxing that has occurred has been perfectly safe in terms of the concerns that had been raised, Lam didn’t think simple really encapsulated the concept itself. Surely, it’s more complex than it’s given credit for.[break][break]
It certainly leaves its own impression, to be sure.[break][break]
Fernando commands the direction of his glalie with crisp, commanding efficiency. Lam, meanwhile, is less structured in those directives.[break][break]
“Aight, Poppy! Don’t let it intimidate ya! It’s just a big golf ball!”[break][break]
The pidove chirps, the meaning behind his words understood. The pelt of ICE SHARDS threaten to skewer the little bird but she’s undeterred as she shoots upward again.[break][break]
Draconic energy flows from her feathers as she rushes the oversized pokemon, and uses her body like a pint sized golf club. Looking to smack her competition with DRAGON HAMMER.

FERNANDO IS FAR FROM SURPRISED by the PIDOVE’s performance. for many, they would consider a pokemon so puny to be weak. incapable. but those are the opinions of trainers who do not understand that pokemon are unique.

not good. not bad. but unique. all with their own purpose. a fact that leaves it up to the trainers to express their skill in the heat of combat. an assessment he withholds as the DRAGON HAMMER makes contact with his GLALIE.

the supersized pokemon tanks the blow with little recoil, ready to CRUNCH into the pokemon now that it’s within striking range.
