she walks through the gates once again, her newly caught safari charmander tottering behind her. it's all too happy to return here, which freya isn't too happy about, but the lizard will at least know where to find its siblings so she can get in and get out of the cold.

there's a light dusting still on the ground, dew freshly frozen. it gathers on the soles of her boots and more than once, she nearly trips, but the charmander leads her away from some of the more slippery areas. she thanks it with a pat on the head.

and they quickly come upon the shore, not yet frozen over, where the tatsugiri lay. after nosing around for a bit, the charmander uncovers one and gives it a shake, throwing the helpless thing at freya's feet.

the combee they come across puts up even less of a fight and at first, her charmander manages to fell a couple. but then she spies the oddly colored comb and thinks this would make a far better gift to her acquaintance.

a couple of fiery breaths dispatches the bug and brings it to the ground.

magikarp flit about under the water. she rests by the lakeside to take a breather, holding her hands and breathing some warmth into them. every once in a while she withdraws her phone and types out a few sentences, but she never sends them.

she never, ever sends them.

the golden fish is at the bottom of the lake and so she never sees it. when her charmander gets bored, they continue their walk.

the metal claw comes out of nowhere and her red-scaled charmander is thrown forward, onto her front. freya turns and sidesteps to get out of the crossfire, demanding her charmander get to its feet and attack the assailant.

this one's scaled hide glimmers gold.

ember fly from both their mouths and they exchange a round of blows, mirroring each other's moves, until they're both left gasping for breath. the golden one falls to one knee and freya withdraws another safari ball.

"good job," she praises the other.

and unfortunately for the poltchageist, it does not miss the eye or the ire of freya's charmander. enthused from its previous praise, as soon as it spies the tea-filled ghost, it pounces, lashing out with a flurry of claw and flame.

freya gives it a moment, waiting, and unsurprisingly charmander gets its ass handed to it. pride is always the downfall of her dragons.

still, the teapot is wounded enough to get sucked into the ball.
