As a Woobat fluttered on by he began to get lost in thought. He thought back to what one Rocket mentioned to him about joining up with them. That masked man (howard slayte) saying that a person of his resume joining up would make waves in the status quo. Thinking about it some Rockets had been gym leaders in the past, probably under the guise of one or they hadn't joined up with them till later. After one too many the screening gym leaders took was way more stricter in some areas. Made sense if they wanted to avoid a Rocket fudging up the league's name while collecting badges as a sign of strength.

Besides his tenure as an Elite Four was short, was it worth that much? It felt nice to be recognized that he held that title once in a blue moon sure, it was a small sign of pride for himself. Yet so many before and those after him seemed to do so much more in their position. In retrospect he had to wonder.

Did that make him the pathetic one?

If not pathetic then probably a fraud at the very least.

The reason he left the Elite Four was because word was that the Rangers were having a bit of trouble being short staffed. Didn't help that the previous head ranger was fired on the spot during the last AQUA meeting he attended when he was still on the team. He felt bad for them and the Ex-Head Ranger and wanted to offer his help. It was meant to only be a short sting. A month or so perhaps.

Then a month turned into almost a year at this point.

He still hadn't sent in that resignation letter in to ollie morales yet.

But what kind of "hero" would he be if he just up and quit the Rangers? They were all about helping the region, it was a natural fit. Yet he hardly did much there and his skill set was probably better geared towards fighting than helping. A Rookiedee caught his attention as it flew down with a screech clipping his hair as it circled above him. He recognized the cry as an aggressive one and took on a smirk as he brought out a ball. This was the perfect distraction to keep him away from some downer thoughts, so as the bird flew back at him he toss the ball right at its beak to catch it.

The glint of the fish's scales hurt his eyes. He raised his hand up to shield them as he walked by the small pond as it dove back down into the depths. As he held his hand up he peered through the small gaps in his fingers and remembered what it was like to wear a mask years ago.

A literal physical mask mind you.

When he first came to this region he did things his way, did what he believed was right to do. Was it foolish? Yes. Dangerous? Absolutely. Worth it? Very much so.

He only accepted a job with the league because he was found out, because he was given a choice of continuing to do what he was doing only under their flag or face repercussions. Looking back at it now maybe he should have walked right out of that office, stormed out of the whole building if they tried to stop him. Why did a hero need to follow the rules? Well outside the obvious reason.

Sure he probably would never be someone parents would let their kids look up to, he'd probably be called nothing but a menace by some, and yet he knew that as long as he was doing it to bring better things than it was worth it. Let them call him names, in the end it was always for them and those close to him.

Watching the Petlil skip around the flowers he had to wonder if there was always a chance for him to bloom into a flower a second time. Yeah something like that didn't happen in real life but real life around here was sometimes more crazy than fiction. Legendary Pokemon as of late made sure to turn that into a fact.

"Man I've been thinking too much. My head hurts." Even the gentle rub of fingers along the temple didn't even seem to soothe his headache. Yet when he felt something nuzzling his angle looking down he saw the face of the little flower bud looking up at him. Kaz couldn't help but crack a smile as he knelt down beside it and pulled out one of the many treats he always brought along with him to the park.

Handing it off to the little flower he also took out a ball and rolled it around in front of the grass type to get its attention. It stared at the ball before letting out a happy chirp and a little jig. It seemed to understand what he was asking it to do. "Think we'll get along great little...gal? Ya look like a gal."

Maybe he needed to be fierce like a dragon. Skill and strength was something he had proven to many before yet nowadays it didn't seem to phase his enemies. Then again how can he compare to some of the threats that have faced this region already? The only thing close that could compare was etching his name into the region's hall of fame as one of its champions. Or well Top Champion if he wanted to prove himself.

"Top Champion...yeah..." When news about the changes brought to the league he couldn't help but scoff. Even today he scoffs thinking about it. Sure those who passed would be considered "Champion" level trainers but there was still someone on top, someone that the League planted there because of who he was. He didn't believe for a second Kyle would still be up there if he didn't have to be. The only time he saw the man take any sort of initiative was during the treasure island business, and even then the guy seemed different than usual.

"Maybe I should...be like a dragon?" The thought intruded as he watched an Applin roll around coming in his direction. It was cute and assuming but Kaz was familiar with the species somewhat. Back home giving one meant giving your heart to someone and he knew that being part dragon made them rather resilient and powerful if properly taken care of. Slipping a ball out of his pocket he stepped in front of its path and held out the ball. The little apple stopped and looked up at him and gave a little hop as it charged at Kazimir as he threw the ball at it, ready to tame yet another dragon even if it was a small one.

A ditto could become anything it wanted to be. There was some sense of jealousy to be had with that, after all why wouldn't you want to be able to change yourself in an instant? Still that would be living a lie wouldn't it? But wasn't there a way to turn that into the truth? One would have to work really hard to make that work though.

Was Kaz really up to that challenge? Change who he was? The more he thought about it the more he didn't think he could. Maybe it was just nerves getting to him. "Alright let's just...get this over with." He needed a distraction. Getting out a Pokeball he locked eyes with the Ditto as it morphed into a double of himself and Kaz just smirked.

He could totally kick his own ass. So he tossed the ball forward.
