They meet THEO BECKETT’s greeting with a casual nod. “Underboss Beckett.” Fern’s voice is as light and conversational as ever.[break][break]
But they do not miss the formality in Theo’s terseness. Which is a barrier Fern had thought they’d largely passed. Or managed to.[break][break]
Unfortunate.[break][break]
Puffing out a sigh, their head rolls to the side in thought. “Only as much as the published reports offer, I suppose. Why do you ask?” They leave out their unanticipated trip to jayden cross’s dreamworld at the behest of Father Winter. Unwilling to discuss what happened there. How they were expelled from that world and the sharp sting of rejection they still feel panging in their chest.[break][break]
At least for now.

“Hm. Well, that’s unfortunate.” They respond simply, without an ounce of fear or apprehension. They have wiggled their way out of countless tight corners. They will continue to do so, should they need to.[break][break]

Hubris. Hopefully it is not their downfall.[break][break]

“Oh?” They keep their voice light, though they can’t disguise the way it piques with interest at the last moment. “When did this happen?” Likely long before they ever had the standing they do now.[break][break]

Fern huffs, irritation evident. “Not much, unfortunately. We’ve made a handful of trips back to Lesser Megalopolis, to little success.” They pause, head tilting in consideration. “It is fascinated with the Tapus of our world, though, and I know a similar Tapu Bulu has been sighted in different rifts. So it makes one wonder if this one here is looking for its siblings.”[break][break]

Or perhaps it is alone, and envious of what remains mostly intact here.

Perhaps agitated was not exactly the right word. More like…restless? Whatever the cause, Tapu Koko had been eager to leave when they first forged their bond as patron and avatar.[break][break]
“Mm, well, I figure this one here has been the only exciting find so far,” Fern tries not to dwell on that disappoint for long. The resolve is still there, and they’ll keep snooping around the city until they figure something out.[break][break]
And they are certain that Theo will be an asset to that endeavor.[break][break]
“Oh, of course. With Tapu Koko around, most everything is.” And also with them around, because Fern is a treat.[break][break]
It flits toward them now, though, zipping around the pair of them with pointed interest. “Wait, I think our friend’s found spotted something.”

It’s strange to find vestiges of the DRK Triad out in the open like this. So blatantly.

What is orchestrated, when it comes to things like this? Nothing quite feels like chance.[break][break]

“A little too coincidental, if you ask me,” they remark as electricity sparks off of Tapu Koko as it flits around them.[break][break]

The floating unown are eerie as ever, and Fern has to wonder if they’re really so oblivious to the new presence of the two Rockets.[break][break]

They smile, glancing at Theo with bright eyes. “I’m glad we are all in agreement then.”[break][break]

Without cue or any sort of patience, the island spirit launches itself forward with all of the furor of NATURE’S MADNESS reverberating from its form.
