“I sure do. They’re not about to get any further, between the two of us. Their hunt is about to be–” he pauses for dramatic effect as he pushes up off of his stomach to sit up and make a swift arm-chopping motion. “--cut off.”[break][break]
His grin only widens as Noah begins the chant, and he echoes it, until the hype is sufficiently built.[break][break]
Then he whistles, signaling his decidueye out of hiding from the higher cliff face he’d been perched on. “How ya wanna do this, Noah?”

"how about artichoke begins firing arrows, twang twang twang," noah flutters his fingertips as if loosing a bowstring, "and i soar down like a battle royale game on with my decidueye."[break][break]

his bird, staid yet autumnally clad, clacks its beak.[break][break]

"then i start doing my thing. pow, pow, pow," noah says, "and then you swoop down, ksshaw! hoo hoo—that's artichoke by the way—hoo hoo—and then we take turns giving each other cover."[break][break]

Scrutinizing the plan as he emphatically lays out each step. Despite the somewhat serious expression, it’s laced with that pumped up sort of vibe, and his head bobs along as he listens.[break][break]

“Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,” he repeats, “Distract from the real threat.” That, being Noah’s hand to hand skills getting up close and personal–alongside his own decidueye, of course.[break][break]

He laughs, “I dunno, man. I think I can definitely hoot too.” Well, not without looking and sounding ridiculous, but he’s only playing along. “But we can work with that, for sure.” A short whistle sent out across the distance to his own bird fills the quiet between his ears, and he misses the eerie cry himself.[break][break]

He turns back to Noah, grin wide and maybe a little rascally, as he holds up a fist for bumping. “Let’s do it.”

noah's knuckles bounce from lam's before they brace for the beginning. a shiver warps within him. anticipation's slithering; a serpentine countdown that curls around his ankles that noah will be forced to dispel.[break][break]

"hey, before i jump." noah says. "just wanted to say i'm glad you're on our side."[break][break]

within a flash of autumnal feathers, noah too, flashes lam a cheeky grin. his hisuian decidueye leaps past him and he grasps onto the neck of one foot as it passes.[break][break]

just before gravity forces them to plunge, noah manages to jest, "if i die, it's your fault!"[break][break]

he shakes his head immediately after—molting any real blame.

The build of suspense is mirrored equally in Lam. A blood buzz that’s only supplied because of the mutual hyping between the two of them. This isn’t exactly his preference, having to risk life and limb in skirmishes like this. But pumping each other up definitely makes it a little more palatable.[break][break]

“Uh, ditto?” His head tilts, curious at the sentiment offered. “Can’t imagine being anywhere else.”[break][break]

Lam gawks at him, mouth falling open with an air of comedic hyperbole. “Aw, c’mon, man!”[break][break]

Not the life debt. His mouth hooks in a crooked grin, though, and he gives Artichoke the go as Noah drops temporarily from view.[break][break]

He doesn’t have any arrows of his own, but with careful eyes on Noah and his decidueye approaching the enemy force, Lam directs the angle of Artie’s attack.[break][break]

One by one, his own decidueye sends a volley of SPIRIT SHACKLES that seek to pierce and ensnare before the others tag in for their go round.

under the feathery fusillade, noah and his hisuian partner manage to alight on plume-pierced ground. he ducks immediately after. TRIPLE ARROWS fan out above his bowed body, and flinch those attempting to strike them—or attempting to strike lam logan.[break][break]

noah shouts, "get in here, buddy! i got your back!" [break][break]

he recalls the raging bolt, CIAN MAHER and his raboot. as he plunges punch after punch into encroaching grunts, his hisuian decidueye looses arrows with tireless rhythm. their rachises crack upon impact and release hisses of air.[break][break]

"y'know, i'm surprised you didn't bring poppy!" noah braces himself against the cold aggron steel of a supply shed. "pretty sure that beast could solo this whole place."[break][break]

he wonders if lam keeps the pidove away for sentimental reasons. the same reasons he has retired his first machamp for.

He’s not much of a sparrer himself, but when noah faber calls up to him, he slides down the embankment through crumbling gravel on skidding heels to join the mayhem.[break][break]
Lam throws an elbow and it connects with someone’s nose– at least he knows it’s not Noah, who is just ahead of him.[break][break]
His decidueye sweeps down after him, brandishing the harsh glow of a SOLAR BLADE that whips out in an arcing slash.[break][break]
“Unsurprisingly, she’s stubborn when she’s not in the mood to leave her roost!” he replies cheerfully, despite the duress that comes from having to bob and weave out of punching range. “Artie’s been with me from the start, though, so he’s a good stand in.”[break][break]
The owl gives a decisive hoot of agreement. He could probably retired Artichoke–nearly losing him on the Mirage Island a few months back is probably reason enough, but the bird would probably smack him with a great, caped wing for making the attempt.[break][break]

from the rip current of their incursion, they enter as storm oil. a brief stretch of calm lays before them before reinforcements arrive.[break][break]

"just need to take down their lab. communications and intel down all in one." noah points at an antennaed facility. "by the way, i saw you elbow the shit out of that guy. nice moves. you know how to fight too?"

He’s a homebody through and through; honestly, if he could have his way, he’d leave the house (couch, lol) as little as possible. He could understand the creature comfort of a shared home, and a safe haven.[break][break]
But this is definitely a change of pace. A grateful glance is sent to both Noah, and his decidueye as they continue the fight. Artichoke continues to cut down opposition with blades of photosynthetic light, and when the numbers begin to disperse, an OMINOUS WIND buffets the rest and follows them out.[break][break]
“Should be easy peasy,” he says confidently, though it is probably not, in fact, easy peasy. He squints, looking up at the antennae. “Think they can hit it with some arrow shots? Or does it need a little more…kablammo?”[break][break]
He manages to bark out an incredulous laugh as he catches his breath. “Ahh, no…that was just improv.” He supposes MATIAS SILPH gave him a little bit of a sparring tutorial, but Lam never really had gone the extra mile to actually learn.[break][break]
“I’m definitely no pro.”

surveying its surroundings, his decidueye nocks its arrows: golden energies coalescing into three.[break][break]

"communication equipment is super sensitive thankfully, but i fucking love kablammo. ka-blam-mo!"[break][break]

he hears the arrows fly from his bird. like rockets, they detonate against a troupe of grunts and their pokemon away.[break][break]

"how about a double brave bird?" noah says.

Actually, outside of getting into sibling scraps with his little brother, Lam can’t recall ever really fighting before he turned up in Hoenn.[break][break]
“Kablammo!” he echoes it again, head nodding. “Why not end things with a boom?” Why not make it entertaining, at least?[break][break]

His decidueye waits, round eyes blinking at his autumnal counterpart, until the two can take off in tandem—wings out, arrows at the ready, large talons outstretched in coordinated effort.
