There's something unique about the atmosphere of Meteor Falls. Orion doesn't go caving very often, preferring the expanse of the open skies or a comfortable trek through the forests to any sort of spelunking, but there's something to be said about the cratered white stone within.

He's only brought two of his Pokemon with him this time. He rarely leaves Katas behind no matter what he does, and he'd brought Cypress along to continue the process of training the ornery grass-and-dark Pokemon. He was far more mischievous than most of Orion's party and that just wouldn't do for a Ranger; much as he was willing to entertain his Pokemon's different personalities, pickpocketing strangers was not an acceptable behavior.

Cypress proves Orion's decision to be a wise one. As soon as he's out of his Pokeball, the Shiftry rubs its leafy appendages together, clearly cooking up some kind of NASTY PLOT. Orion sighs. This was going to be a process.

He's distracted by the appearance of the Staryu.

Distracted enough that he doesn't see the way the Shiftry readies its LEAF BLADES and stares down the poor water-type. He doesn't notice, until it's too late, and the poor Pokemon is being hit by the full force of the super-effective move.

"What'd you do that for?" Shiftry makes a noise that Orion thinks might be an attempt at laughter; it's terrifying, whatever the case. He sighs and rubs at his temple. "We don't just attack Pokemon that aren't doing us any harm, bud. There are plenty of Pokemon out here that'll be itching for a fight, but that wasn't one of them."

Shiftry appears utterly unmoved.

Jynx appears next, though it seems rather oblivious to what's going on around it. Orion notices the side-eye that his Shiftry is giving the poor psychic Pokemon, and folds his arms.

"You're not to attack it."

Though the Shiftry grumbles and indeed follows orders, Orion thinks it's mostly the Pokeball that's assisting in that matter. Once, he would have done away with the idea of using balls all together, but when Rocket had been about there'd been a real threat of Pokemon being stolen, and with them gone... well, he'd gotten into the habit, now, and appreciated the sense of security.

He did feel bad for the Shiftry, though.

Though Orion gravitates towards darker, creepier Pokemon, he can still appreciate the cute ones. Here in the cave with no one around to see, he smiles at a Brionne that splashes around in the water nearby. She's practicing her tricks, balancing on her flippers and creating jets of water that soak the nearby stone.

When she finishes, Orion claps, startling her.

"Sorry," he laughs, and he's not sure if she understands, but he's always talked to his Pokemon as if they were people. "I didn't mean to startle you. You did very well!"

Whether she knows what he's saying or not, she seems to enjoy the applause, diving under the water before cresting the surface in an acrobatic flip. He chuckles, shaking his head.

Cypress, on the other hand, is moping. Orion turns to the Shiftry and sighs; it's clear they're not making any more progress today. "All right, bud. Let's go on home, then."

He waves to the Brionne, then departs.
