A knock at the door called her attention to it, eyes slowly moving over to the fixture, the young woman coming to a stand and moving nearer to it quietly.

The heads of her pokemon rose, the Sylveon and Mightyena both eyeing the entrance as Marie opened the door, her head nodding as she moved to the side to allow her guest to enter.

“I’m happy you could make it without delay.”

She would eye the escort before closing the door on him, seeing as he preferred to sit outside of her residence rather than within.

Allowing Nanette to make herself comfortable, she would pour the woman a glass of water, promptly setting it onto a coaster nearer to her.

“Make yourself comfortable, who knows how long we’ll be settled in for.”

Curled locks of auburn hair hung over her face, gently pushed aside as the young woman tidied up her living space; the penthouse made more presentable for the company she planned to have over for the evening.

She looked to the window, seeing the sun was setting as the day become night. A shower of rain sprinkling on the balcony window, the lights of the city mixed with droplets, the translucent surfaces intermingling with one another to create a display of childish enamour.

Her mind would return from wandering, a couple of glasses being set out- then set onto the kitchen counter, Marie moving to grab a pitcher of cool water, setting it onto the coffee table located in the living room along with the glasses.

Calmly, she checked her wrist, a watch displaying the current time.

She should be here any minute.

god this fucking blew. knowing full well that she was grasping at air, marie breezed on by, wind on her metaphorical wings lifting her to her next destination. but she would be caught off guard when a sudden burst of air nearly lifted her off her feet. rotoms, fan ones at that.

she needed to vent, blow off all this hot air, but she had no one to do it to. so she simply tossed a ball, and like a fart in the wind, it flew, her hopes as thin as air.

There was less and less to do with every passing day, a plateau being hit after the ex-rocket boss had been toppled. This was not a bad thing of course, Marie was more than excited to spend quality time doing what she actually wanted instead of what needed to be done; but sooner or later she’d have to pick the saddle up again.

And for this reason, she needed her pokemon able to handle the task they were given; the pokemon in question being a Sylveon and the task given being to make friends.

A healthy part of the work she does is being able to blend in with other people, and the Sylveon was one of the more inconspicuous pokemon on her team. It was a veteran, easily able to swoon those that neared it, but lately he had gone into disuse. Socializing with pokemon within the daycare would surely put a pep in the fairy’s step and refresh its abilities.

Once it had been properly introduced to the daycares environment, the Sylveon began eyeing out pokemon to make a move on. With its sights set on a Smoochum, the fairy would waltz over and give a light bow.

“Nice to meet you, my name is Cherry. You seem to be looking for something, may I be of assistance?”

“You look pretty dead inside and out, so I guess zombie isn’t too far from the truth with you.”

Her words carried no malice, a simple observation alluding her to state the obvious.

“And I’m not a runaway. Again, shows how much you listen, my name is Marie and I’d preferr if you called me that. And there’s no reward money for turning me in, I’m not sloppy enough to get a bounty on my real name like you.”

She’d return her look forward, eyeing the pokemon the presented themselves, simply ignoring them as she continued on.

“I joined this team because it seemed like an easy way to get what I wanted. One thing led to another and now I’m in this humid asshole of a region because some dickhead got too greedy.”

It was bothersome to continue on in this fashion but at this point she was too deep to really turn back. Running away wasn’t in her blood.

“How much are you worth anyways? Would I get a fat paycheck for turning you in?”

She’d half turn her head, cocking it back as he let something slip out. She would squint, choosing not to comment on it, but instead letting it be expressly known that it was heard, her head slowly turning forward.

When he mentioned aliases she’d be forced to fully turn around this time, giving him a dumbfounded look.

“Are you simple? What did I just say? I told you what my alias was already didn’t I? Emilee. E-m-i-l-e-e. That’s not my real name, it’s a name I give people that I talk to that aren’t in this circus of a faction, you clown. (honk honk) If you’re talking about a code name then I don’t have one of those. I’m not a child.”

He was free to call her what he wanted, just as she was free to ignore whatever name it was that he had given her.

It was smart of him not to interject, the lass finding her own words to be stupid in reconsideration. Though if he were to comment on them, she would be forced to retort, a neverending back to back on her part in order validate her obviously butchered wording.

She heard him talk under his breath but would choose to ignore it, simply mistaking it for some sort of schizophrenia, a mental note taken to keep a closer eye on him; her eyes darting up for a moment to make sure the Xatu was present. She would vaguely make out it’s silhouette on the rooftops, teleporting to a fro from vantage points.

When he finally spoke up, she would be inclined to answer, choosing to ignore the comment of comparing her to every other white girl as she responded.

“To rockets, Marie. In public, which for you is never, Emilee.”

“Did your mother name you Zombie or did you give yourself that dumbass name?”

She chuckled as she turned her attention forward, spotting more gutter garbage in passing.

She opted to ignore the better part of his lamentations, pretending to listen all the same, only commenting on the parts she feels necessary to.

“First, I didn’t take you for for the sexist type, honestly, I’m a little disappointed in you, work on respecting women in your off time instead of jerking off. Second, you’re lucky to even be spending this much time with me, people usually have to schedule time with me, I’m a very busy individual afterall. Third, no one sees me unless I want them to. Fourth and finally, I don’t need to explain myself to you, Mr. Zombie.”

A snirk sounded, her tone prodding at the mention of his name. Who takes on the name Zombie so willingly? Probably a kid still mentally in his teens that thinks it’s cool.

“Lets go.” She said as she waved for him to follow, garbage bags rustling in passing to reveal wild pokemon, their eyes locked onto the two.

She would choose to ignore them, speaking back to zombie as she continued forward.

“If you see something you like on the way, feel free to swipe it. Or not. I don’t care what you do, as long as you don’t try to step on my toes.”

To say she was not a fan of the current Slateport was an understatement.

If she could have her little way she’d completely avoid the city, but for the sake of expanding the diversity of her team, coming here was unfortunately, a must.

The one good thing about being here was the fact that those that she associated with socially would stray far form this city’s shadow, a prospect she was very thankful for.

Though this did little to subdue her fears, sure to still take precautions before so much as even setting foot on the tainted and debauched soil. To her, the best way to go about this was a complete makeover, her aim to completely avoid detection and eliminate any chance of a ruined social status.

After all was said and done, the last that was left of her was to enlist a comrade, the first to unfortunately cross her mind being the idiot who calls himself zombie. Or do other people call him zombie? Whatever the hell his name was didn’t matter, he was given the task to accompany her on these mean streets, a time and location sent through very one-sided means; a Xatu tracking him down and delivering a hand written note, it’s tone straight to the point and bland. The pokemon would not give him a moment to voice his response, as it would simply teleport away, making sure the note was read before she did.

So Marie waited, her back pressed against the alleyway wall as she tapped away on her phone, waiting for her clown faced companion to make himself known.

their job here was done, and there was nothing more for him to do, she understood his presence was no longer needed. so when he up and left with only a smart ass comment made towards her, she was amused; a light smile sent back his way as he took flight.

he had done well by her today, so the least she could do was ease up on him if only slightly. a reward of sorts for being such a good sport when it came to her unreasonableness.

now all that was left to do was reap the spoils that littered her mind, her status in the lives of the unsuspecting rising that much more.

a simple hum was the most she could muster up, a blank expression depicting her apathy to the situation. one way or another, this would give her a few brownie points in her good standing with the girls family.

soon they would arrive to the scene, the sight of a malnourished woman causing marie to recoil before becoming overcome with emotion, her eyes watering up as she rushed to her side.

“selina! i was so worried about you!”

marie’s behavior took a 180, flipping on its head as a more compassionate side of her sprung forth, taking the reigns as she tended to the girl, pulling water from her bag and setting it to the girls lips, setting the injured woman’s head on her lap as she knelt down.

tears stained her cheeks as they dripped onto her friends face, her words coming out slightly mumbled as her emotions got the better of her.

“i thought you were dead! i’ve been looking ever since i heard you were lost! why didn’t you tell me you were going hiking? i would have come in a heartbeat!”

the girls leg was broken, long clotted blood seeping from the wound. marie looked at it, the waterworks once again streaming like a river as the athlete began muttering to her.

“i’m… o...kay..”

her voice was barely audible but a hand placed onto maries was what calmed her down, quickly releasing two pokemon, a sylveon and gogoat; the sylveon providing a misty terrain to ease any pain as marie helped her onto the gogoat, sending the two pokemon to safety promptly after.

a sigh escaped marie as the woman left her sights, wiping the tears from her face as her expression returned to a neutral one.

“let’s go.” she’d say plainly as she began walking off.

they got what they came for, there was no reason to be here any longer.

needless to say, marie made it across without a hitch, the wishiwashi remaining on standby until returned, it’s companions scattering quickly as she stood on solid ground. quickly catching up to marcel, she would keep a feet between the two, her head tilting slightly as he spoke, his question forcing her face to contort to the same expression she held when he offered her a ride.

“if you have a bag of jellybeans and finish it in one sitting, are you going to remember the flavor of the first one you ate? she’s not the only friend i have, marcel, only one of many. besides, she didn’t invite me out for this trek so i’d have no idea where she could have wandered off to.”

marie went through the ringer to get on the good gills of those whose attention she felt it important to garner, this athletes dangerous hikes were no exception. often when she was invited out, marie was quick to accept, setting her into a planner as soon as she could. while yes, they were often times tedious expeditions, they were welcomed, anything to blend into normalcy, or at least have a citizens standing in hoenn and not one connected to rocket.

“if it helps, she usually makes her own paths, so if you see these markings just vanish, she likely went into the woods. she has one of those collapsible bikes that she takes everywhere.”
