togekiss ♂: serene grace - sky attack | extreme speed | aura sphere | air slash | smart strike | encore

the potency behind the fire-type's attack bordered on ridiculous. it's fire breaching togekiss's protective layer of feathers, thoroughly singeing and even damaging the flesh beneath. hot pain seared through the entirety of the dual-type's form, the intensity of it enough to cause their unconsciousness to abruptly blink out. the togekiss missed their target by a large margin, slamming roughly and bouncing painfully against stone.

bits of fire remained upon their form as they grew still, their breathing ragged as their mouth gaped open and closed.

'he's done.'

cait could tell the moment he impacted the ground, rushing forward to close the distance between herself and the bird. blatantly ignoring the uncomfortable heat and her own lack of protection, she patted out the flames; subtly allowing her gift to seep into and mend the flesh.

'that's it,' she thought. 'you're alright. you're okay.'

the young woman stood once her pokemon's breathing steadied, a hint of glow present within her gaze before it quickly dimmed. she'd turned her attention toward selena and her fox, appearing intrigued by what she had witnessed.

"you've won," she conceded.

cait approached selena, remaining dignified despite her abrupt defeat as she raised a curled hand and revealed a badge.

"you deserve this. i wish you luck on your journey - and wherever it may lead you."

"you're an absolute trip, kim."

she couldn't help but smile, her eyes rolling as she took another light puff of her drug-laden treat. the woman smothered the glowing tip, deciding to save the remainder for later. at the moment she was experiencing a decent high, a familiar wave of euphoria washing over her.

"i guess you're sticking to being a councilor, then? maybe i'll aim for that one of these days."

cait's future was likely to be a bright one; a master's degree on the horizon accompanied by an overabundance of options career-wise.

'and a family down the road.'

"when i'm around fifty, maybe," she said, contemplative. "and after a kid or two."

she wanted a big family, one that could fill the empty rooms of her home with life and laughter.

"any luck finding someone to settle down with?"

aside from FERNANDO SILPH , she couldn't think of anyone that would pair decently with kim.

her psychic-type was wise enough to maintain her distance - as were those of her kind as they granted the poison-drenched a wide berth cabin. cait would receive no immediate aid, her pokemon either too widely dispersed, in the midst of slumber or entirely deposed.

"t-thank you."

she relied upon the disguised emma's guidance, utterly bemused, frightened and desperate for any form of assistance.

'why am i so - '

tired? weak?

"bi."

celebi writhed in the air as cait exited the cabin, their eyes clenched tightly shut as they struggled against a force which sought to lock them in place. weakened by the poison and their avatar's present state of mind, they released a telepathic blast of energy that knocked recently hung portraits from the walls. it was a defensive measure, uncoordinated and fueled by a desperate need to deter whomever entrapped them.

as noivern descended to take them, she blinked rapidly - detecting her god's distress.

"celebi," she murmured, a hint of a slur entering her voice as her mental faculties deteriorated. "are they... okay? where - ?"

cait released a chuckle in response, the grin she bore directed fully at the man.

"sorry for the inconvenience, sir."

she playfully moved to bump her shoulder against his, her gaze twinkling with amusement.

"but i'm perfectly fine with being a 'nobody' again," she said. "i know - i know i'm someone of worth and a valued member of society. but it's hard not to feel less than substantial when constantly compared to so many others."

it stung to know she was mediocre when compared to her peers. and not even her status as avatar could place her above - skill-wise - those whom had been raised with a pokeball in hand.

'if i could turn back the hands of time,' she thought. 'would i have become a trainer?'

"i feel like a disappointment sometimes," she admitted, absently flicking ash off her blunt. "my mama says it's 'cause i'm still so young. and daddy says it's 'cause there's far too much on my plate for me to reasonably deal with."

cait gave a light shrug of her shoulders.

"but it was all worth it. roughly two years and i accomplished more than enough."

she forces herself not to smile.

"nothing else, sir."

the woman felt as though a burden had been abruptly lifted from her narrow shoulders, a potent tidal wave of giddiness threatening to overwhelm her.

"thank you."

she gathered her items, standing and offering a polite nod once she had everything properly secured. cait began to move toward the exit, pausing momentarily to glance over her shoulder at fernando.

"i know this isn't an ideal arrangement. but i believe it's for the best."

the young woman took her leave without another word, the corners of lips beginning to tug upwards into a grin as she did so.

breloom ♂: poison heal -seed bomb, poison powder, dynamic punch, counter, giga drain, mind reader

painful energy reverberated throughout the breloom's frame, a physical and mental impact felt and causing the pokemon to shudder violently where he stood. he blinked blearily for a moment, growing rigid as his muscles tightened painfully whilst he froze. the pokemon's breaths were shallow, his tiny nostrils flaring and his gaze growing increasingly dull.

black engulfed both his vision and his mind, the pokemon collapsing in a heap of reds, greens and tans. it was obvious he fell unconsciousness, another quiver rocking his frame before he truly went still. cait appeared resigned after a moment of eyeing the bipedal creature, closing the distance between herself and the pokemon to kneel at his side. she'd rest a hand upon his head, her touch gentle upon his mushroom-shaped head.

"you've won," she announced.

the pokemon's eyes blinked open, bewilderment passing over his formerly features as he returned to the waking world. his mistress stood and he sought to join her, only to stumble and return to his previous position of resting upon his side. cait approached kazimir, extending her curled hand and opening it to reveal a small badge.

"and here's your badge in exchange," she said. "i wish you luck on your journey to the elite four - if it takes you there."

"what a lovely pokemon," cait praised, a gleam in her eye. "it suits you."

her tone oozed with a curiously infectious warmth, the woman's smile appearing to brighten somewhat as she eyed the majestic beast.

'i'm surprised she'd pick a water-type.'

traditionally trainers would go for far more advantageous options type-wise.

"leer, simisage."

the grass monkey struck a pose, which was unnecessarily dramatic as they peered through their spread fingers at their respective foe.

it burned.

her togekiss released a noise of agony as they were set ablaze by fire that clung stubbornly onto their feathered exterior. they flailed and flapped awkwardly in the air, shrieking with pain and rage as they sought to extinguish themselves. cait grimaced at the sight and sound of her companion's suffering - and had she been of a weaker disposition - she'd have brought the battle to an immediate halt.

but she had learned sometime ago that such an option would only be detrimental to her pokemon in the long run. they needed to learn how to push past the discomfort - to press onward in hopes of achieving victory no matter the cost.

"extreme speed!"

with a cry as the last of the flames vanished into thin wisps of smoke, the pokemon became a blur - rushing toward the fox with every intention of retaliating against the creature.

venusaur ♀: overgrow - petal dance, power whip, amnesia, sleep power, take down, solar beam

the air grew bitingly cold as the ice beam came into being, the point-blank blast of frigid energy rendering her pokemon a horrid combination of cold and dazed. but the feeling was temporary, her previously administered amnesia allowing her to suffer only a portion of the damage.

"grab them! power whip!"

cait wanted to take advantage of the bird's close proximity, aware that her companion could only extend their vines so much. it would be advantageous to prevent excess movement, especially when venusaur had solar beam at her disposal.

'it's not like i can use sleep powder,' she thought, begrudgingly. 'not right now, at least.'

she'd have to see if the shielding would fade, aware the preventive measure would result in a wasted turn. her grass-type's glowing tendrils extended as she mulled over her stratagem, the creature seeking to grasp at her foe's wings.

cait experienced the faint aftershocks of the celebi's entrapment, visibly stiffening as her legendary counterpart suffered from the adverse effects of the spell. the girl felt as though there was something amiss, but her mind and senses were heavily muddled by the drug that had effectively slipped into her veins.

'i need to go outside.'

her chest rose and fell rapidly as her pupils dilated, the woman desiring to return to her forest. she'd feel safer there - surrounded by the environment in which she was raised.

'out-side.'

she followed the woman, her eyes round and grow increasingly blank as she slipped further into a dazed state of mind. but she is briefly startled from her state, a voice slipping into her skull - a familiar one.

'mistress. mistress, do you hear me? are you alright?'

the volume was weak and barely there, a terrible strain placed upon the mental tether that she shared with her psychic-type.

'hypno. hypno - somethings wrong. something terrible - '

her hypno grew deathly silent before she detected a quiet obscenity being uttered by the creature. the bond shared between the two snapped within moments, cait's mind unable to properly maintain it as she struggled to think.

"we have to," she said, agreeably.

with bare feet she took her first few steps outside, the warm summer's air soothing. but there was a sweet scent which hung heavy in the air, the subtle reek of poison coiling around her.

"i don't understand."

the words were softly uttered, the woman's eyes rounding as she struggled to both mentally and physically anchor herself. but there was an unsteadiness that hampered her ability to remain balanced. she raised her gaze and glimpsed the darkness beyond and the eyes that peered back.

'no. something's wrong. where - '

fear began to coil itself within the depths of her mind, the young woman trembling lightly in response to her bemusement. she feebly tugged upon her bond, hopeful and perhaps desperate for her god's assurance and their presence.

"celebi," she repeated.

she sat frozen upon her seat, staring at the window as she felt a cold sweat begin to manifest. cait felt like a deerling in the headlights in that precise moment, unable to move and barely able to speak.

"bi."

the legend manifested in a flash of brilliant light, though they wavered lightly within the air - having the misfortune of swallowing a mouthful of poison as they passed through the area nearest to the cabin. celebi raised their gaze, alert and frantically searching for the source of their avatar's distress.

they shared a quiet moment; a moment spent enjoying warm tea and light conversation. cait had failed to notice emma's slip of hand as they sat together, the woman sipping daintily at her drink that was filled with tasteless poison. the young woman's cup was nearly empty when she fidgeted, a look of confusion passing over her features.

"celebi?"

there were occasions where cait felt a light tug upon their bond, where celebi's emotions caused it to ripple and sway. it was at this moment where she sensed that the legend was alarmed - uncertain - bemused.

'but why? is something - '

the young woman stood, her gaze flitting about - and then she stumbled.

"w-what?"

a wave of dizziness struck her so abruptly she nearly tilted over, cait's rear quickly returning to her seat once she failed to steady herself.

"that's just it."

she inhaled deeply, willingly filling her lungs with the contents of her freshly rolled blunt. her pause would be immediately followed by a slow exhale, a plume of reeking smoke rushing out of of a pair of heavily painted lips.

"i'm not a gym leader anymore," she informed.

cait's tone was a combination of relief with a hint of underlying sadness.

"i get to go back to being a nobody again."

despite her choice of words she appeared pleased with this outcome, her gaze becoming unfocused as she peered at the surrounding stretch of forest.

"someone else'll take over for me. eventually."

cait pondered over her words for a moment, appearing to consider the creature at fault for this burst of terrifying chaos.

"it was probably a ghost," she said.

'not one of mine, of course. they know better than to needlessly harass people.'

her prejudice against such creatures was something she had quarreled with in recent memory. but she still found that particular breed of pokemon to be dangerous; especially toward those whom were vulnerable to mental suggestion.

"you'll be alright. it's likely they'll clear out or be cleared out by morning."

while she was indeed wary, cait was confident in her pokemon to repel such a threat if it sought to linger or even give chase.

'it's nothing they can't handle.'

"i'll make you some tea to get you settled."
