“Wonderful,” she noted elatedly. Seeing justice being brought to people that required judgment was always good. And given that the man had both resisted arrest and tried to hurt innocent bystanders, there was no doubt in her heart and mind that this one truly was evil. He deserved to be pinned down, cuffed and sent away later, as far as she was concerned.

Which probably was all this really amounted to. After all, she had next to no authority here to begin with. Especially when it came to making arrests. Sure, she could have jumped that man similarly to Miss Moon over there, but she couldn’t lawfully make an arrest. Precisely because of what the other asked, of course. “Um, well, in a way you could say that.” Mirri took on a firmer stance, fist on chest and bowed briefly. “Mireille Wynters. Knight of Galar, at your service.” Naturally, she delivered the lines with all the gusto and sincerity as she always did. Clearly, she meant exactly what she said.
However, she quickly snapped back into a kind of awkwardness. “Granted, this does also mean that I hold no authority or jurisdiction here. So, frankly, I could not have apprehended him on my own, either, technically speaking.”

Huh? Someone knew her name in this region? She turned to see who that might be, though the voice already sounded familiar. There were only very few people here who even knew her name to begin with. Her brother was a lot more famous in the region, but she doubted that the family resemblance was strong enough for anyone to make that connection when they did not stand next to one another.

Hence, it had to be one of those she met recently. Fortunately, getting a face to combine with the voice made it easy to remember. Especially when it was a pretty one. Though, admittedly, this woman was more of a fellow knight, not a princess. “Ah, Miss Moon,” she started sighing in relief inwardly. Someone she already knew, that meant less awkwardness. Probably. “I am here to identify Dittoes, yes. Though I did not know that kind of work fell into your purview as well.” Callie seemed more like the kind of person to patrol streets and hunt down any crimes she came across, less a detective working an established case.

In a way, the criminal had gotten what he wanted with her. If only briefly, she had stopped to ensure the safety of the people. Ultimately, that was worth more than catching a thief a little more quickly. With his leg kind of busted, he was not going to make great strides, after all. Being confident that she could catch up to him, she quickly helped a young girl getting out of the way.

In the meantime, her Corviknight joined in on the steel and wing action, hitting the tumbling Wheezing as it tries to catch itself after the first attack, knocking it out before it could make the conscious decision to explode, while John himself was getting knocked out in another matter entirely. The impact was enough to see him fall backwards at least, where he would lie dazed for a moment.

Seeing that, Mirri smiled lightly – only to then have a bit of a coughing fit from what little she had inhaled of the gas. There was a light pink glow near her head though, courtesy of the young girl’s Audino, which she had called to help out as well. What a conscious young woman. “Thanks,” she simply said, with a nod, before getting up again and walking towards the culprit. “Is he out?”

This kind of mission was definitely not made for her. Mireille was, in general, not too good with people. That was why she often used lines from cheesy novels in lieu of genuine conversation. She also wasn’t all that good when dealing with deceptive people, much preferring be in conflict with direct threats, wild animals being the best. That allowed her to play to her strengths. ‘Sussing’ out Dittos, as young people today would call it – and she felt that she was old-fashioned enough in mind to use that phrase – was something felt only borderline confident in.



Fortunately though, she was apparently not going to be the only one dispatched for this one. Naturally, she hoped that she would be joined by someone she knew. But she would take anyone who was better at this than she was. Helping out with guidance, that would be her preferred role in this.

Now, this was a nice afternoon, wasn’t it? Well, not in the sense that it was hot and sunny. That had passed by now. Most of the day it had been hot, almost oppressively so. Enough to force her to take a break in the nearby meadow, under a tree, otherwise her white pants and shirt would just be plastered to her skin by now. Sweat was always annoying, especially when it did not come from exercise, but just from temperature. Mirri did not like that at all. Especially given that she was someone who always tried to be somewhat covered, not out of prudence but out of propriety. A knight did not wear shorts. Full stop. Though maybe she should look into skirts some more. Chances were, even if she got herself one of those, it would be ankle-length too, though that might get in the way during combat.

She sighed, pushing aside thoughts of costumization aside for the time being. Not like the strong winds that came with darker clouds were going to make for good skirting time, anyhow. But she liked this more, the breeze flowing through her locks, ponytail flickering back and forth. It felt better. More like home, really, even though the path that she had returned to was an unfamiliar one. She had seen quite a few people walk by earlier, some even battling with their Pokemon along the road. Now, there was less going on. Which meant that the wild ones might get more rambunctious, so she remained alert, once more defaulting to protecting the roads as if it was actually her job. However, after a few minutes of purposeful striding, she found herself gaining on a young woman carrying an egg. Or were those multiple? She could not tell for now, just that it was probably a burden on the other yet, as she continued to gain.

Nothing was more important than safety for the people. That was one of the core tenets of knighthood, of course. It was especially important for travelling knights such as hers, even in a foreign region. Wild Pokemon always brought the potential of trouble with them. It was in the nature of nature. Sometimes, it needed a guiding hand to be more palatable to humanity. That was where they came in.

Which was a particularly lofty way of saying that she really liked to help keep the routes clean for other travellers in the hopes of making a difference. If she only helped one person not getting injured, it was an evening well-spent. Her Honedges hovering around her, Mireille walked the road attentively, looking out for any signs of trouble. Steps measured, eyes alert, this was something she was very much used to. The young woman in a white uniform of sorts had been doing this for a long time, after all. She was experienced enough in all of this. In fact, this was what she considered her own nature. Just doing something useful like this, it elated her.

And if she could find someone to help, that would be even better. Ahhh, maybe she would even find someone special to rescue! That would be amazing. Briefly, she was distracted by her own thoughts, before burying her face in her hands out of embarrassment.

Snorlaxes! They were so big and cuddly! Of course she would not openly acknowledge any such things. She was a knight of Galar and a ranger, after all. But she had decided to jump out of the line for her favourite spicy omelettes when she heard that a swarm of those was nearby and needed to be moved. The possibility of seeing so many furballs in one place was just too much to pass up.



And Mirri had not been disappointed. Seeing a whole field of them was neat. Hearing the cacophony of so many Snorlaxes snoring almost in unison was something else entirely, a low rumble reverberating through the air. This was certainly a grand experience. Though she was toying with the idea of throwing a ball at one at some point, even while her Pokemon were working tirelessly to push another one out of the path. That, likely, would be both useful to everyone involved and nice for her. Maybe, maybe…

A knight? Now that had her confused in return, if only for a bit. Honestly, she hadn’t even given it any thought. Not because the other seemed completely unsuited for it or anything like that, far from it. But being a knight was something so specific, so tied to Galar and its customs, that she had not really considered the possibility at all. It was less Genesis seeming unfit for the duty and more the duty not being something that anyone from this region would want, in her eyes.

Mirri opened her mouth to explain that, but was then hit by an addendum that saw her briefly figuratively choke on the mention. “I-I didn’t mean….I mean I did mean….I….” she had to stop herself in that moment, barely managing to keep herself from jumping up in panic. It would take a few deep breaths to calm down, of course. But somehow, she managed. Again, somehow.
It would take a few more moments for her to collect herself. “I did not mean the knight part,” she hence started back up again, blushing. “And I guess this very reaction probably means that I am unfit after all. But….you seem like someone I could like. And you already know pretty much the worst parts about me and do not hate me. So….it just seemed like it could work, maybe?”

Yes, yes, she did indeed speak Togepi. At least she got the sentiment as she nodded at the little one just as gently. Or she thought so, simply out of a belief that a Pokemon like this was probably in synch with her trainer, who had just voiced something similar. “It is difficult to believe that my brother could be embarrassed about anything,” she started, though the smile on her face indicated that she very much based that on fond memories, rather than sadness or judgment.

“But it certainly would not hurt to actually get to hear that properly, you know? Or shown, really.” Mirri leaned back, relaxing a little. “Gosh, I must sound so bratty or entitled here.” There is a brief laugh in light self-depreciation. “What is your connection to the rangers, anyway? You said you wouldn’t know where you would be without them?”

Somehow, she felt oddly touched by that act. Not the actual touch, ironically. But the look that she was given, the proximity, the concern in her voice – that was something she didn’t experience any day. Gave her goosebumps, in addition to her blush.

But at the very least she did not flinch away this time. “I….I don’t think I undervalue myself. I know that I am helpful to others. It’s not that he or my family don’t want me. Just…..they probably do not really need me. It would be nice to feel needed by someone. Or truly being wanted specifically instead of my existence being appreciated…..does that make any sense?”

Naturally, hearing someone talk about this so directly and easily made her blush even more. However, for once she just soldiered through it all, breathing deeply and not averting her gaze. It did feel incredibly weird like this. On most days, she probably would not have had the strength to do this. But with this backdrop, under this beautiful night’s sky? She just felt different. Stronger, maybe. Or at least less easily thrown for a loop by her own feelings.

So, she listened intently, actually thinking about what was being said. “I….see, I think.” A sigh followed, briefly. “Somehow, it is much easier to even put my life on the line for others, in order to protect them. But I guess that’s because those sorts of things have to be done. This isn’t anything that is strictly needed. Just something I kind of…want for myself. So it is easy for me to find reasons not do it.”
That was probably the most outspoken she had even been about these sorts of things. Introspection was something she was often inclined to do, but she rarely ever talked about it, or acted on it for that matter. Maybe this time she should. “But….um….would you be at all interested to see if it would be any good?”

He needed her? Mirri blinked, oddly surprised by these words. That certainly had not been how she had interpreted that situation. It would have felt quite nice if her brother had shown any indication of this, really. Instead, he had treated that situation as a minor inconvenience and her as a convenient help.

She sighed. Then, she blushed some more, when that knee made contact with her body once more. This was not what she’d expected for today at all! It wasn’t exactly bad, no. But….but it was unexpected! She had no idea how to handle that. “He…he didn’t really need me all that much, I think. Just went to goof off right away. I’m not sure anyone ever actually needed me proper outside of situations where I swiftly helped someone.” Another brief sigh follows, as she allows her dissatisfaction with her situation seep through lightly.
