With a whoop and a quick high-five to Chaos, Beau miniaturises the poké ball containing his newly-acquired Stufful and clips it onto his belt. Adjusting his hat, he continues through the brush, his companion snorting and snuffling low to the ground behind him. The thick underbrush eventually gives way to a low riverbank, and Beau takes a moment to rest, removing his hat and fanning himself.

"Gosh, I wonder what other pokémon we'll find in here!" he muses, his Snubbull offering a reedy grunt of agreement. Almost in answer, a Luvdisc breaches the water's surface nearby, spraying the pair with a Water Gun before swiftly disappearing back into the river.

"Okay, okay!" Beau sputters as Chaos helplessly wrings out his shirt. "Not that one, then!"

Beau claps his hands, an easy grin blooming across his features. "That's a plan!" he effuses, nodding affirmatively. "Of course I've got room, my afternoon's clear - and even if it wasn't, I always make time for a pretty lady," he winks.

He indicates the rear of the gym with a thumb over his shoulder before turning and heading in that very direction, urging Talia to follow. "Alright, so the non-traditional challenge for Dewford is an obstacle course, which you've probably heard of. I did my best to make it infamous," he laughs good-naturedly.

He alights on the wooden steps allowing him to walk from the gym to the beach, glancing out over the water at the aforementioned course with a note of pride. "The goal is for you and your pokémon to tackle the course together, and make it from the beginning to the end without falling into the water or onto the beach."

He glances back to Talia, mischief in his eyes. "It's not about bringing the strongest, it's about bringing the one who will see it through to the end, and it's up to you to hold up your end of the team. Determination's the word, here!"

He arrives at their destination, stepping to one side of a low ramp that rises from the beach to a small platform perched just over the surface of the water. "Don't be nervous - head on up and then I'll explain the first hurdle!"

Beau's easy smile doesn't fall, though it does falter a bit - uncertainty creeps into his tone at the other man's deadpan declaration. "What, like right -here-? I mean, sure, but the ground looks kind of uncomf- OH." Comprehension sets in as he catches sight of the two pangoro on the other side of the fence, and he rubs the back of his head self-consciously, his face flushing.

"Them, right, that makes more sense. Not, uh, not that it would make less sense the other way, if that's your thing, but it's just kinda chilly and I'm gonna stop talking now," Beau trails off, brow furrowed in concentration. "Do I know how to make babies? I thought that's what we were just talking about. Like, WE can't make babies," he clarifies, motioning with one hand between himself and Priam.

He peers over the fence at the two pokémon, who seem to have no indication of interest whatsoever in each other. "Usually I have pretty good luck if I take a date somewhere nice to dinner first. You think the big guy over there has a jacket that'll fit the dress code for Le Poisson?" he inquires, jabbing a thumb over his shoulder at the male Pangoro.

No sooner have Beau and his Snubbull meandered into another stretch of tall grass than they come across a Stufful grazing idly. Beau's features light up as he grins, rummaging through his pockets for a Safari Ball. Chaos, by contrast, waddles up to the Stufful with nary a care in the world, offering a short grunt in greeting.

The Stufful appears startled at Chaos' appearance, and fortunately somewhat deaf to Beau's hissed protestations from his poorly-concealed hiding place. She regards the Snubbull with an air of wary caution, letting out a quiet 'meep'. Chaos nods at her, then lies on the ground, rolling over placidly once before clambering to his feet with a wheeze. After a bewildered moment, the Stufful follows suit, rolling over once and tottering upright with a meep.

Chaos, satisfied, shoots Beau a thumbs-up with his stubby paws and Beau, shrugging, tosses a Safari Ball at the smaller pokémon.

It's Beau's first excursion into the Safari Zone, and he may have gone a bit overboard with the preparation. A swirly-patterned blue and white Alolan-style shirt hangs loose on his torso, while a wide-brimmed hat and an oversized pair of sunglasses protect him from the harsh rays of daylight that appear, at current, to be hidden by a scrubbing of grey clouds.

"Shh!" he hisses at his companion as they slowly make their way through the tall grass. "There's supposed to be some strong pokémon lurking around the place, so if we wanna find you another buddy, we gotta be quiet about it, 'kay?"

His companion is Chaos the Snubbull, who has been similarly garbed in a (much smaller) shirt, hat, and sunglasses in imitation of his Trainer. He only acknowledges Beau's comment with a wet snuffle before the pair push forward.

The little stretch of farmland outside Oldale Town is seeing its fair share of bustling activity as Spring slowly creeps into Hoenn. A handful of Mudsdale occupy the farthest rows of soil, dragging plows behind them in unerringly uniform lines, tilling the soil into a lush, dark bed waiting to host the next round of crops.

Regarding crops, Beau and his Swampert, Nemo, have set up shop near a stand of tiny green buds that the elderly farmer who led them here assures will be a bumper crop of radishes, with their help. "Alright, brah," Beau nods to Nemo, "Time to give 'em a drink!"

That's all the encouragement Nemo needs before he sets to sending Water Pulses in an orderly barrage up one row of radishes and down the other, each blast accompanied by a high-pitched whine. Some of the beds end up looking a -little- more waterlogged than others, but the dry soil soon drinks up the hydration all the same. Beau sways a little on his feet from proximity to the Swampert, his eyes going crossed due to Nemo's choice of water delivery, but it's in the name of a good cause, right? Right?

Wrenching open the half-rusted port door with a horrendous screech, Beau stumbles into the hallway, panting. Behind him, Torben the Pangoro unleashes a final Night Slash at the Dhelmise pursuing the pair, causing it to fall back with a wail. Torben thunders dutifully through the door, and Beau pushes at it with his entire body weight, slamming it shut with a resounding clang.

Leaning back against the door, Beau pauses to catch his breath, giving an exasperated look at Torben. "Brah, whose idea was it to come here?" The Pangoro, unimpressed, regards Beau with a level stare until the man looks away, sniffing. "Okay, yeah, but I heard there were some kids causing a ruckus where they shouldn't be. I wasn't planning on ghosts popping out of the freakin' walls!"

He pushes himself off the door, dusting off his shoulders, and punches Torben's shoulder amiably as he walks past the bear into the hallway proper. "Come on, brah, we gotta make sure that nobody's getting themselves in any trouble down here, 'kay?" he calls, poking his head into one of the half-dozen rooms dotting the length of the hallway.

Beau is, if nothing else, a frequent victim of cabin fever, so a trek through the rural landscape typically does the trick to get his head back in the right place. So far, it had been a relatively productive diversion - he'd found a great spot to picnic for lunch, chased a Nickit who had subsequently snatched half his lunch, and managed to get in his cardio at the same time. Win!

At Priam's shout, he swings around to regard the man leaning on the fence with a bewildered expression. "Me?" he asks, pointing at himself, before looking over one shoulder and then the other to confirm that there is, in fact, no one else that could be referred to.

He ambles over to the fence, puzzlement knitting his brow, but offers his hand in a firm shake. "Sup, brah? Whatcha need?"

"Nope!" Beau proclaims cheerfully. "We are an equal-opportunity physical health and training establishment, so you can choose any pokémon you like to participate, especially if you wanna give 'em a good workout!" He puffs his chest out proudly, accompanied by an enthusiastic thumbs-up. He beckons to Martin, turning and beginning a leisurely walk to the back of the gym and, consequently, the outdoor complex beyond.

"The object of the course is for both you and your pokémon to participate, because I want to see both of you work hard to earn the badge. If your pokemon can go through the obstacles with you, that's fine, but if, say, they have wings or gills and aren't as groundly-minded as the rest of us, we have special tracks that they can take while you go through the usual, so anything's fair game!"

As Beau reaches the back of the gym and begins walking down the low wooden steps that allow safe egress from the building to the beach below, he glances over his shoulder at Martin and offers a winning grin. "Trick is, though, it doesn't necessarily mean bringing the strongest bro you've got in your squad - bring the one that will see it through, because it can be harder than it looks!"

The gym is bustling with quiet activity, and so it's no surprise that Adrian's quiet preparations go largely unnoticed - save for the odd curious look here and there - as he makes the final adjustments to his choice of companions and removes his jacket.

Though he's not grandly appointed to a particularly special area of the gym - which doubles as an actual gym in this case - and doesn't clothe himself in anything more ostentatiously ornamental than a white sleeveless undershirt and cargo shorts, the dark-haired young man in the corner nearest Adrian is -probably- Beau Fontaine, given his enthusiastic encouragement to the Swampert he is currently observing; the amphibious pokémon appears to be in the middle of a set of pull-ups, of all things.

The gym leader turns his head as Adrian approaches, though his serious expression breaks into a wide grin as he takes the other man in. "Whoa, sick threads, brah! One sec." He claps the Swampert on his back, and the pokémon drops from the bar with a muffled thump, landing easily on his feet. "Alright, Nemo, good work. Go grab Torben and I'll meet you on the rocks in a minute, 'kay?"

The Swampert nods an affirmative, ambling over to a circular pool set in the center of the spacious gym enclosure, diving in with a splash. He does not resurface, but the construction of the building seems to have something to do with that; The entire rear wall of the gym appears to be missing, giving a wide view of the beach and sea beyond. After a moment, the Swampert can be seen in the near distance surfacing from under the water, near a craggy outcropping that forms the rough approximation of a large, circular arena. Must be an underground tunnel that feeds into the gym!

Beau dusts his hands off and approaches Adrian with a grin, offering his hand for a firm shake. "Welcome to Dewford Gym! I'm Beau," he quips, "And I'm assuming you're Mister Malcolm, here for your Doubles challenge?" He cants his head to one side, though an easy smile lingers on his features.

While Paschal examines the high-quality blueprints scuffed haphazardly on the floor of the pen, Dominic crosses his arms in satisfaction, giving a slow, wise nod. The Deerling's sudden movement, however, takes him slightly aback. The fawn has some initiative, eh? Alright, he can work with this.

Tottering over behind the wayward fawn, Dominic pauses and observes quietly as Paschal approaches the fence, canting his head at the long, telling look the deer shoots him before he witnesses the utterly surprising feat of cervine agility before him, his companion bounding over the fence as easily as though it were merely a stick fallen in the path before him.

When the primate collects himself and reclaims his dropped jaw, he lets out an excited whoop, banging his stick on the ground enthusiastically. At the unmistakable invitation, he claps his hands together, tottering over to clamber on to Paschal's back in one smooth motion, settling himself astride the Deerling and pointing his stick toward the Daycare.

Although the gym as a concept is relatively spacious, much of the activity appears to be happening on the beach and in the shallows behind the building itself. It certainly doesn't hurt matters that the structure completely lacks a wall in that direction, allowing for a stunningly scenic view of the blue sea and golden sands that ring Dewford.

Despite the temptation to more thoroughly enjoy the fair weather, Beau himself is occupied to one side of the gym, by all appearances spotting a Pangoro who is currently in the process of executing bench presses with an impressively-sized set of weights. The new arrival causes him to turn his head, offering a cheery grin over his shoulder. "Hi there! One sec, brah," he calls to the other man, tapping the Pangoro on the shoulder and helping him rack the weights with one final exertion and a loud, rattling CLANG.

The Pangoro sits up, and Beau removes a clean white towel from around his neck, tossing it to the larger pokémon. The bear offers a low grumble of assent, incongruously using it to scrub at his head and torso as Beau ambles over to Mars.

"Welcome to Dewford Gym! I'm Beau," he offers with a cheery grin, holding his hand out for a firm handshake. "A challenge, huh? Let's see...I've got a desk coming together in the office that's being a real pain, I feel like that's pretty challenging!"

He laughs brightly at his own statement, offering a sly wink. "Nah, just kidding. So!" he proclaims, clapping his hands together and surveying the other man, "This is where I'm supposed to tell you that the buzzword here is 'Determination', but you seem like a fella who knows how to get what he wants."

"We've got two options, per your preference. We can go the traditional route and have our pokémon duke it out, orrrr," he drawls, gesturing to the absent back wall of the gym and the array of structures dotting the shoreline and the surrounding water, "You can take the challenge to make it to the end of the obstacle course with a pokémon of your choice without falling onto the beach or into the water!" he grins. "Between you and me, nice and warm as it is outside, I wouldn't mind a swim myself. Later, maybe!"

He crosses his arms and flashes a winning smile at the challenger. "Pick your poison, brah!"
