luci knew what concord did. logically, he knew.

[break][break] he knew that concord was not the same person he was when they had first met, he knew that he was a different man now. he knew that he'd worked for the police force, and now he worked for the upper echelons of the league.

[break][break] he knew all of these things and yet...

[break][break] yet, he had still - foolishly - believed that it didn't matter. that despite all of those things, despite all the dangerous situations that concord would put himself into, he would not forget. he would not forget like luci had not forgotten — that he belonged to him, that they belonged to each other.

[break][break] "twenty years," he repeated, slowly, as his thoughts caught up to speed to the story that paxton was telling. the tale that he was spinning. "twenty years, in this other universe..."

[break][break] finally, he understood.

[break][break] "you spent twenty years in another universe with someone else."

[break][break] who the hell cared if it was on his hand? luciano's fingers tightened around the silver, pulling concordas closer to him, eyes burning blue fire.

[break][break] "i don't care if it's not on your hand."

[break][break] his voice as cool as steel.

[break][break] it's only the touch on his elbow that stirs him out of the hold, realizing that they are in public and that it is not proper - not at all - to be treating his concord this way. jealousy burns in his gut but he pushes it down, relinquishing his hold and then quickly walking away. he strays further away from the path, waiting until they are hidden by fig and cedar before turning on him.

it's an act that paxton concordas does not need to partake in.

[break][break] "you don't have to give excuses for me to come over, topolino," he murmured as he sipped the cocoa, glancing up as some children scampered through the christmas trees. giggling. reminding him of the way vidalia and michaelis used to run around the family mansion.

[break][break] luciano said it so casually, as if he had not just carelessly admitted to the fact that he would easily follow concord to the ends of the earth, if he willed it.

[break][break] he does stare at him perhaps a second too long when the blond mentions the ungainly act of chopping. who did concord thing he was? a Neanderthal?

[break][break] it was good that concord corrected himself seconds after.

[break][break] "mhm," the artist says, walking behind the other as they're led through the pines. it sounds like a wonderful thing. as much as he may hate the outdoors, luciano does find an appreciation in beautiful things and somehow the idea of sightseeing with paxton concordas sounds incredibly inviting. "all of that sounds lovely. i would - "

concord doesn't explain, but luci realizes that he doesn't need him to. the train of events that would follow the rest of the day would speak for themselves, and in the meantime, he would indulge in the other's presence, just as much as he was about to indulge in the decandant drink that would be provided for him.

[break][break] as concord sets to work, luci appraises him.

[break][break] but not in the way that he had appraised a fellow sculptor, or not even the way he used to appraise michalis when he had taught him or any of his other students. no, concord had long ago graduated into something... more.

[break][break] luci appraised him in the way that one of his fans might one of his paintings. with a keen, observing eye, with a mild sense of desire. it was the kind of way that you looked at a beautiful thing — adoring, lovely, and all too keen on drinking in all that he could while he was able.

[break][break] "ah, thank you." he takes the offered mug, ignoring the pleasant shiver down his spine as paxton concordas's warm voice rolls over him and blows softly on the hot chocolate. he follows a bit more slowly, sipping at the heated drink as they step back out into the cold weather.

[break][break] the artist makes a pleased sound, something half-way between a moan and rumble of appreciation.

[break][break] "this is delicious, concord. good work."

[break][break] he smiles, once again, cheeks red from the cup's steam.

[break][break] it seemed a bit nonsensical, if luci thought about it. all of the fuss over a tree? it was why this type of thing was usually left better for people that were for-hire.

[break][break] but he supposed he would tolerate it, as long as he was with paxton concordas .

[break][break] "if i did?" he mused, nearly playful in his remark. "if i did what?"

[break][break] "i have never bought a tree myself," he confesses, though he knows he did not need to. he glanced at the several different trees that littered down the path, all of various sizes, small and big, thorny and not. the smell of fig and pine filled the cold winter air as they passed it on the way in. warmth and fire greets them as they step inside, and luci breathes in a sigh of relief.

[break][break] "something deep and rich," he says, waiting for concord to prepare it for him. his scarf remains wrapped around his neck. "or you can surprise me."

He should have felt more badly about it. Using a man like that, just to see if he could get a rise out of Concord. But in the moment, Luci didn't care.

[break][break] All he could think about was the heat in his stomach at the sight of his Concord kissing someone else, all he could think about was the story that Concord had shared with him that morning, and all he could think about the way that the last time they were at a part like this, he had watched Concord on the dance floor with another man before disappearing from the party completely.

[break][break] He was furious.

[break][break] Petty, jealous, all terrible emotions that were unbecoming of a Fisk, but Luci couldn't help himself. He didn't turn away as the other man excused himself, stuttering some foolish response before disappearing into the crowd.

[break][break] His eyes were for Concord. They always had been.

[break][break] Luci expected the other man to let out an outburst of equal fervor but instead the deputy just stared at him and said nothing. It ignited something more furious in the sculptor's heart, but on top of that, it made him feel sad. Being on the receiving end of such a disappointed gaze...

[break][break] There was no one that Luci hated himself more in that moment than himself.

[break][break] "The tablets. Right."

[break][break] Luciano wanted to do no such thing. What was the point of being here, if Concord was not even going to respond to him?

[break][break] But he was pathetic, and wretched without Concord. He couldn't bear it.

[break][break] "Let's go, then." With that, Luciano offered his hand for the other to accept before sweeping towards the crowd on to the tablets. His eyes landed on the GOODRA tablet, which for his destiny was seated. He pressed a hand against the cool stone to begin the communion, before then taking off towards the fortune teller.

In reality, Luciano knew that he had no right being mad. He was the one who hadn't come to the League party, he was the one who had decided to trust this paxton concordas .

[break][break] The one who had disappeared into some sort of dream world and decided that it would be appropriate to settle down with some other man, despite the years that happened between him and Concord. Perhaps Luciano was arrogant - no, he was definitely arrogant in thinking that Concord would wait forever for him. Or perhaps too naive.

[break][break] "Mistletoe?" he repeated, incredulous. "You're sorry?"

[break][break] luciano fisk 's gaze never wavers from paxton concordas 's own, never changes from the burning rage that simmered beneath pools of ocean blue. Hurt and agony twisted his gut in the most unpleasant of ways, but he refused to crumble. He was a sculptor; his eyes were as hard as the marble that he carved daily.

[break][break] 'Is that all you have to say,' he wanted to bite out, wanted to scream, but he said none of these things. Did none of these things.

[break][break] Icy cold, he uttered, "You have nothing to apologize for, Con-Paxton. We aren't dating."

[break][break] His eyes then snapped the closest other man in the room. It wasn't the poor fool who paxton concordas had kissed — DEREK HOFFMAN was already running away. It wasn't Remiel Calcifet either, who had also run away.

[break][break] No, it was some mystery man with a rugged jaw and russet red hair and deep blue eyes.

[break][break] He would do.

[break][break] Immediately, without preamble, Luciano turned. A hand reached out for the muscular man's white suit, hand twisting in the fabric as he dragged the other towards him. "My apologies," he murmured in a low timbre, right before his lips landed upon the other's in a searing kiss.

[break][break] There was nothing soft or gentle or sweet.

[break][break] Luciano pressed himself against the other in a show of unadulterated passion, a demanding kiss that was all lips, teeth and tongue. When he pulled away, his eyes snapped back to paxton concordas 's own.

[break][break] Above them both was a sprig of mistletoe, hung in the air between them upon a floating Minior, gleaming like Christmas lights above them.

[break][break] He licked his lips.

"size doesn't matter," he says in response, glancing down at the other, brow carefully arched. his lips barely lifted in amusement.

[break][break] the smell of pine trees and warmth filled his senses as concord let him down the salted path. in front of him, beside him, between them — there were trees all over. they may have been walking through petalburg forest.

[break][break] well, he supposed, petalburg these days were looking a bit barren.

[break][break] "how it might look?" he inquired, confusion cooling the artist's gaze. his expression was concerted, bewildered at what the other was asking him. "are not all trees the same?"

[break][break] at least, the one's that they had delivered to the fisk family home always seemed identical. perfectly the same, because there was nothing less but perfection for a fisk's home.
