sometimes she wondered if coming to hoenn had been a mistake. mari hadn't thought about it when it had happened, because everything had happened so quickly. she'd been in a weird space back in kalos, and there were only so many afternoons that she could spend at grandma pryde's side before it would get boring quickly. she knew, also, that grandmother was expecting more of her, as they always were. so when her internship had ended, and another job had presented itself, at rotomtv no-less, she'd jumped at the opportunity.

[break][break] how could she deny working for ANA STONE ?

[break][break] but also how was she supposed to know that hoenn was going to be enclosed.

[break][break] mari had not actually gone out to witniss it, but for some reason flights were cancelled and ferry schedules were blank. she still had contact with the main house back in kalos... but things weren't the same. now that she had no way to — no. she couldn't think about it.

[break][break] so caught up in her thoughts, she barely noticed it was starting to rain and even less that there seemed to be gathering up ahead. it was only at the flash of white fur running past her that she realized that it was a pokemon. and people.

[break][break] before she could get ahead of herself, however, annalise henderson clarified it for her. understanding dawned in mari's eyes like a sunrise, and she zipped her lips. so pineapple was another person. pineapple was a boy.

[break][break] as she sits in the spot offered to her, mari pulls her knees up to her chest and balances her chin atop them, gazing between her two friends.

[break][break] it's still surreal to think that she could be hanging out with annalise henderson , her internet friend, let along living with her and her cute friend Rory Faust . as the blond goes off to explain rory's best qualities, mari nods empathetically. she may not know rory as well as anna, but she knows enough.

[break][break] "y-yeah!" she stutters, not expecting to be prompted. "you're really amazing, rory." her voice is soft, eyelashes blinking against her cheek, as she stares up at the other.

[break][break] her head tilts as the question is proposed to them both. rory has a good point — why wait?

[break][break] she thinks of her high school friend luka chêne , and how she'd always spoken of fairytales and dreams. mari hadn't been as equally enthused, but she knew exactly what to say about this type of thing.

[break][break] she was heading down to her bedroom, a bowl of cheetos in her arms, when she heard whispers from the door.

[break][break] curiosity getting the better of her, she leans against the door just in time to hear Rory Faust speak.

[break][break] "ooh, who do we like?"

[break][break] mari is shy, but perhaps not shy enough to avoid a piece of juicy gossip. the door pushes open and she steps through into annalise's room, walking over to the two.

it's not a big deal.
