Kyrenai Black, the younger half-sister of Gabriel Black, and the product of a passionate love affair between their mother and a handsome, red-haired foreigner. Although her mother kept this a secret at first, lingering feelings made her leave the Black family to marry her beloved when Kyr was only two years old, and subsequently moved to Johto, taking her daughter with her.

Because of this Kyrenai spent most of her childhood in Blackthorn City, Johto, yet after finding out about her mother's past Kyrenai wanted to learn more about the Black family. In her youthful abundance, a teenage Kyr ran away from home together with her partner Larvitar, bound on finding and becoming part of the Black family. It was thus that she, one night, several days later, ended up on their doorstep, demanding to be taken in by the Patriarch as one of his own. After an agreement with her mother, Kyrenai is allowed to stay, and is even adopted back into the family as a proper member.

She spends her years studying and slaving away to impress the Patriarch, anything to earn his favor, and develops a rather one-sided rivalry with her half-brother Gabriel, its roots settled in jealousy and a secret admiration for him. Eventually she falls into the Patriarch's good graces, but falls short when the succession of the company is given to her brother rather than her. Kyrenai decides to leave the family in the years to come to find her own path, and is AWOL for over a decade. She resurfaces during the Kantonian war, working as an assassin for anyone who paid the highest price, and disappears again afterwards.

It's only been little over a year since she's made her presence known again to the Black family, having amassed a small fortune through means she hasn't yet disclosed. Her wealth allows her to live the easy life, yet the thrill for more lingers, and has lured her to Hoenn and its abundant chaos.
