If there’s anyone she can appreciate playfulness from, it’s Uriah. In a situation like this, if any other person were to attempt it, she’d probably chew them out. Coming from him, though, it makes her smile in an otherwise stressful moment.[break][break]
She’s glad that she can keep up this time without the hinderance of a twisted ankle, given the vortex that spins out toward them. As he slams the door shut, she peers out a small window. The cyclone tears through the space, void black and looking to suck up anything in its path.[break][beak]
Hopefully it turns in another direction.[break][break]
Yeah, they’re pretty stupid. That’s putting it lightly. It seems like there’s more threats than anticipated in the decrepit city.[break][break]
“It’s kinda fun though, isn’t it? We should probably plan these better..”

Why aren’t they glamping?? Calla is all for anything labeled a boujee version of its original, to be fully honest.[break][break]
She tucks herself deeper into the confines of her puffy jacket, nose burying itself in her collar. “Can’t say I’ve eve gone before.”[break][break]
Calla isn’t really certain she’s ever struck anyone as the outdoorsy type. Sure, they’ve gone on little explorations, but she doesn’t exactly count those as attuning herself to nature.[break][break]
No, she’s a creature of comfort. And sleeping in a tent on a cold night doesn’t exactly scream comfort to her. But the excitement on Uri’s face pushes her to stifle the worst of her grumbles.[break][break]
Instead, she leans against the warm presence of her ninetails, who is perfectly content in the cold air. “Wouldn’t this be better in the summer, though?” A soft sigh follows, “Yeah, it was still a sweet effort. And the stars are pretty.”

Her brows pinch together, a small frown settling on her mouth as she listens. “I don’t know what to make of him, if I’m being honest. Sometimes he seems just fine. Other times, not so much.”[break][break]

“Aww,” she reaches up, water sloshing as she loops her arms around his neck, “you don’t think it’d motivate you if I cheered you on?”[break][break]

It’s only a tease—humor she attempts in an effort to quell both of their concerns, though it doesn’t work too well. “Don’t worry, I will be. Somehow, I seem to have found myself in his good graces.”[break][break]

Her nose wrinkles as she lets out a huffy noise, “No I don’t! At least not in the office..” To him directly, though? Okay, maybe fine.[break][break]

But in her mind, most of the time, he’s earned her griping, and she’ll argue to that point. [break][break]

She blows strands of pale out her face as he continues, and resists the urge to roll her eyes. Her mouth opens to reply, but it shuts swiftly when he drops the unexpected praise.[break][break]

Despite her seriousness and her pride, Calla’s face flares with color. “Don’t know what you’re talking about,” she grumbles, pointedly looking at her shoes.[break][break]

Normally, she’d be confident— retort with a confident you’re damn right I am![break][break]

But it seems he’s caught her off guard.

It can be burdensome work, and it makes her miss Uri that much more. Regardless of her irritations, she doesn’t dump them in her boyfriend’s lap, but she doesn’t really know what to make of it all, either.[break][break]

Despite their height difference, her hand does shoot up to slap over his softly when he speaks. Eyes wide as she looks out toward the hoard.[break][break]
One stops for a moment, attention perking. Then it groans and resumes it ambling shuffle.[break][break]
Cal lets out the breath she’d been holding.[break][break]
“Agreed,” she nods her head with certainty and does a swift-heel turn to head in the opposite direction.[break][break]
“Maybe that building would be good to set up base at,” she points at one in the near distance. It’s not too large, and still looks at least somewhat intact.[break][break]
More importantly, it doesn’t look swarmed by mindless, violent megalopolans.

Calla doesn’t blame him for comparing the two side by side. In all honesty, she catches herself doing the same thing half of the time. Even if getting into League HQ had always been her goal. Her supposed dream.[break][break]

She frowns, eyes wide as she slides closer through the water. “What? It can’t be that bad.” He’s not that terrible at his job.[break][break]
She puffs out a breath, though. “Yeah. Challenging, and then some. Do you know how difficult it is making Matias look good to the public, who already have strong opinions? And on top of that, making sure he doesn’t get all weird suspicious about me?”

That’s probably her mistake, but she’s always dealt better with Matias’ attitude by handing it right back.[break][break]

She says nothing else, though, and only waits for him to proceed. Head tilting to the side.[break][break]

“You know you sound way suspicious, right?” she deadpans after a moment, “because you sound way suspicious.” Her eyes roll, arms folding, “But yeah, sure. I said I was on your side, didn’t I?” But how far does that go, really?[break][break]

She probably can’t give him a straight answer.

Calla rolls up on her toes as she tries to peer around both the corner and his larger build. He doesn’t need to answer her.
The shambling megalopolans make themselves abundantly clear with their noisy groans and shambling gaits. [break][break]
Her jaw snaps shut and a hand lifts to cover her mouth, like she thinks they’ll be able to somehow hear her breathing. But no, she actually has to fix her hand there to stop the blurted out, “Eugh, gross,” that almost flew loose off her tongue.[break][break]

That laughter that follows makes Calla perk up, her smile shifting from something teasing to one that’s genuinely pleased. Warm and fuzzy despite the coolness of the seawater.[break][break]
“Hmmm…I like it well enough,” she replies thoughtfully, glance shifting up to the sky as she thinks, “It’s always soo busy, though, and it’s not as fun without you there.”[break][break]
It’s the truth, too. Work always felt a bit more fun when it was Uriah’s schedule that she was managing. Probably because that meant she got to stay with him all the time.[break][break]
And he’s way more fun than MATIAS SILPH.[break][break]
She giggles, “Is Akura falling apart without me, yet?” Of course it isn’t.
