Once again, Stormy lingers on the mountain, feet lingering at the edge of what remains of the garden. She waits, anticipation making her skin crawl. There is excitement as she waits with bated breath for the Pokemon to reappear. It was an aloof creature, always lingering at the edge of her peripheral, never quite getting too close.[break][break]

It reminded her of Apollo. The stallion had been untrusting, but he had been unkind. She could feel that this time, the Spectrier was more curious than it was aggressive - quicker to run than to put up a fight. She wouldn't be suffering any nearly broken bones and devastating bruises.[break][break]

She was relieved, she thought.[break][break]

And the woman sucks in a sharp breath as the Pokemon reappears for the third time. This time, it steps closer. Though she doesn't have a berry in hand today, she does have eyes, and she can see that the beast is in dire need of a grooming. It's mane is tangled and messy, it's beautiful purple waves knotted and unkept.[break][break]

"Shhh.. I'll help you, okay? Just stand still, we won't hurt you."[break][break]

Stormy releases Wadjet, who she immediately urges to stay still a moment while the Spectrier grows accustomed to the sudden appearance. It snorts, stamping a foot, but it continues to swap its attention from the dragon to the woman, and eventually chooses to stay where it is. Stormy takes this as an invitation and steps forward.[break][break]

With slow, baby steps that ultimately lead to her standing in front of Wadjet in order to make the Spectrier more at ease, she manages to allow Wadjet the room to use shadow claw to detangle the horse's mane.[break][break]

But as soon as the last tangle is freed, the Spectrier disappears and they are left alone once again. It was time to go home and return in the morning.[break][break]

Stormy glances past Balder's shoulder to the Heatran and Zeraora on standby. She takes note of the man's Smeargle as well, and the subtle difference between his and her own. Her own seemed to sport an uncharacteristic cowlick. [break][break]

Her lips twitch in a brief smile and she claps her hands together before waving his attention over to the target dummies she'd set up. One of them was scorched and blackened, still stuck with tar. It smelled downright awful, maybe even still smoking.[break][break]

"Well, as you can see, I've taught Smeargle how to utilize the move 'tar shot' with the move 'magma storm' -- or any fire-type move, really. When a target is slick with tar, it burns even hotter."[break][break]

She gestures to the Trevenant.[break][break]

"If the target isn't already a grass type, utilizing the move 'forest curse' will ensure that they will be. Grass types aren't a fan of fire, as I recall."[break][break]

She smirks, amused. Smeargle wields its paintbrush tail in anticipation, already takin the time to sketch the figure of the ghost-type tree. He seems thoroughly excited.

Laid out in a line, several feet between each other and surrounded by pools of water are three training dummies. They're haphazardly made, but they serve their purpose in looking like targets. [break][break]

Stormy's arms are crossed over her chest and she glances over at the Smeargle and his little sketchpad. The Pokemon is busy drawing the rough shapes of the target dummies with brief, swooping brush strokes.[break][break]

"Alright, buddy. Pay close attention, this is the strategy I'd like you to learn how to mimic, okay?"[break][break]

The little dog Pokemon nods, and Stormy turns to wave for her other Pokemon to begin. With a groan, a Heatran rises from its slumbering position to begin his approach. Next to him, a Coalossal rumbles to life. It produces a wet noise, firing a tar shot onto the first dummy.[break][break]

Heatran follows it up with a mild, controlled magma storm. It ignites the dummy immediately, setting it ablaze with furosity. Smeargle's eyes widen in awe, and the hurried scribbling does not stop.[break][break]

Energy, nervous or otherwise, tingles the surface of her skin. It keeps her on edge, nearly breathless, and her knees instinctively squeeze the shoulders of her Charizard. The soft rumble of the beast beneath her encourages her to relax, and she smooths her hand over rust-coloured scales. [break][break]

"Apologies, girl. We're almost there."[break][break]

With a swish of her tail, the Charizard changes direction to begin descending. The tops of lush green trees come into view and she glances back to watch the other two Charizard(or other Pokemon that Elaine Highland and chryssa glasgow had flown in on) settle not far away.[break][break]

Stormy brushes wind-swept hair out of her face before gesturing for her two companions to follow her. [break][break]

For the most part, the tree-tops of Fortree are quiet and undisturbed. They interact with civilians and save the odd cat from overhanging branches, break up the odd Pokemon fight disrupting the neighbours: the usual, boring ranger tasks. [break][break]

It isn't until Stormy does a double-take, unsure if she'd seen or heard something in the trees that things get a little bit more interesting. Sharp eyes glances over her companions and she sucks in a breath, hand reaching for her belt, skimming over pokeballs.[break][break]

"Did anyone else hear that?"[break][break]

The shrieking cries of the dark silhouette only gets louder, more agitated. Civilians begin to take note, pointing and whispering. She follows their line of sight to see a teenager(Andy Blackadder) mount a Dragapult and fly off into the dark. From her point of view, he is the only one she can see and that alone is enough to spur her into action.[break][break]

"I think we've found what it is we've been waiting for, ladies. Chryssa, Elaine, stay close to me, alright? You guys aren't afraid of heights, right?"[break][break]

Without really waiting for a response, Stormy whistles for Sekhmet. The burnt orange dragon swoops in and she steps off the edge of the rope-held platforms and onto the Pokemon's back to speed off after the orange-haired kid on a Dragapult.[break][break]

A breathless chuckle, an awkward tick, and she pulls her hands out of the drawer. Her hip bumps it back to soft-close behind her while Remiel moves in next to her. Where at first she had every intention of moving away, the touch of his shoulder against hers roots her in place. It's a harmless connection, but one she can't bring herself to break away from prematurely.[break][break]

As soon as he pulls away, Stormy moves back to the counter, utensils spread across the surface.[break][break]

"You."[break][break]

It makes her heartbeat quicken and her fingertips slow. She strokes the metal handle of one of the forks absently, but she eventually turns around to face him. Despite the flutter in her chest, her eyes are unwavering. They find his immediately, though that doesn't seem to be difficult considering he had already been looking at her.[break][break]

Stormy lingers on the mountain well past what would be reasonable, but the Spectrier does not return. She ultimately leaves with Fernando with the intention and the excitement to come back tomorrow.[break][break]

But when she does, her feet remain rooted to the same spot she'd first spotted the wild Pokemon. Her eyes scan the horizon in search of the horse-- but there is simply nothing. Nothing but more fog and..[break][break]

Surprise steals her breath from her chest and she exhales sharply. Awe settles on her features as she stares with bated breath as the Spectrier approaches slowly. She doesn't dare move except to retrieve the berry from her pocket. Her thumb brushes over the velvet texture of the treat and she extends it slowly with a flat palm.[break][break]

The Spectrier would take it and disappear in the same breath. She can feel its velvet muzzle against her skin only briefly. Stormy exhales slowly, fingers curling back to nestle in her palm. [break][break]

It isn't funny, none of it is. Her joke falls flat because it's unnecessary, inappropriate. She'd dropped her gaze because the reaction to chuckle, to make light of the subject, had been a knee-jerk reaction to something uncomfortable. He made her uneasy, difficult to breathe.[break][break]

"Do you still feel it?"[break][break]

Even now, she could feel the throb of the slash across her calf. It made her shift her legs beneath her seat, to recross her legs and massage it unconsciously. The muscle was tight, fingers brushing over scarred skin. [break][break]

Before she can continue, ask something else, tear her eyes away from his fingers at his side, their meal arrives. The intensity of the smells is almost nauseating for a moment given her lapse in thought. She smiles politely at the server, though her eyes dart back to Fernando immediately.[break][break]

"How did you survive?"[break][break]

Stormy reaches for the cutlery, idly picking at her meal. But her eyes remain trained on Fernando, fully absorbed and hanging off of every word. [break][break]

When she stands up, a fog rolls in. It devours the footprints left behind, washing them away. It darkens the sky, blotting out the sun. It leaves her cold, uneasy, glancing over her shoulder to look for the eyes that seem to follow her. She glances up to the sky, carrot gripped tight in her hand. [break][break]

Words get lost in the swirl in her chest, and she shifts her weight from side to side in anticipation. Something is off, something she can't put her finger on. It swallows her pride, swallows her confidence and her fire. There is only unease, settling into her toes. She can feel herself tensing, toes curling to grip the ground firmly.[break][break]

"What--"[break][break]

She silences herself immediately when a shadow in the distance catches her attention. Its magnificent frame is swathed in fog, swirling despite standing still. The beast whinnies, a noise half-way between a greeting and a warning, perhaps. [break][break]

Stormy sucks in a sharp breath when the horse reappears behind her, snuffling her pockets. For now, it is unafraid. It lips at her palm, the one carrying the carrot. She stands stock still, opening her hand slowly. At the sudden movement, the Spectrier shies away for a moment, pulling away before returning to try again. [break][break]

This time, it finds the carrot she's holding. The crunch of teeth enjoying the treat is all she hears- and when she turns back, the Spectrier is gone. Only then does she let out a breath. The hairs on the back of her neck stand up on end. She ultimately stays only long enough to gather a few more carrots- for leverage. If these were what it was after, she would make sure she had extras to bribe it with.[break][break]

The weird phenomena of darkness seems to dissipate with the disappearance of the Pokemon, and Stormy glances over her shoulder to see the wink of a lense reflecting the sun. It blinds her for a moment and she lifts her hand to block out the shine. When she lowers her hand, she can see the figure of Fernando Silph. She approaches, rolling unease from her shoulders.[break][break]

"Did you see that? What was it?"[break][break]

Stormy's attention diverts briefly to the woman's flushed cheeks, to the way her hand rises to brush hair from her cheek. It helps to dissolve the tension between them if only for a moment. [break][break]

When Illeana turns the compliment around on her, Stormy glances down at her own appearance, tugging at her loose shirt. It falls slack against her sides and her fingertips brush over her pants. Her movements are listless, automatic.[break][break]

"Thank you, you're sweet."[break][break]

Before she lifts her gaze back from her clothing, however, Illeana steps forward. It catches the woman by surprise if only because the physical touch is unexpected. One hand and then another wraps around to pull her close. The woman's chin bumps against Illeana's shoulder awkwardly and her hands rise not long after. They hover, however, before finding a place to land.[break][break]

And she breathes out, her breath warm against Illie's neck and shoulder. Her fingers slide up the woman's back slowly, tightening when emotion bubbles to the surface. Illie's whispered words only reach her now, as if trapped in limbo and unable to reach the surface in time.[break][break]

"I missed you too."[break][break]

Her voice grows thick with emotion, the lump in her throat too big that she can't swallow. It stings her eyes and she holds tighter, warmth spreading across her skin, making her fingertips tingle.[break][break]
