There were several things at play here—an unstoppable force, and an immovable object.

Which one was which, he would evidently see as he had a front-row seat to the destruction of the Regirock’s massive Hyper Beam that had managed to nick the strange Salamence’s wings—barely missing roasting its rider—before the two would plummet.

“Kali! Move!” he would all but scream as Ro the Metagross would book it towards the two that were falling—just as the Regirock had decided to make its way out from where they were exploring… or would be eventually interrupted, seeing the sight that had happened to the strange Salamence-adjacent creature that the other was riding on.

“Geezus fucking… are you okay?!” he exclaimed as the silver Metagross would quickly lift the stunned rider out from the cocoon; before gently placing him on his Gyarados’s back—who didn’t even have one second to argue before another burst of Telekinetic power would lift the Roaring Moon up into the air and they would make a hasty getaway from this place.

No, they did not want to be chased by Unown again, thank you very much!

The moment Lars looked over in the general direction where Josh was now swearing—a rare occurrence in and on itself—even he had to bite his tongue to prevent himself from literally screaming!

“Are you fucking kidding me?!” he would exclaim the moment he realized just what had decided to make an appearance…

Shit, did he have any Pokémon that could fly and teleport at the same time?!

“Josh, you idiota! Get out of range as fast and as far as you can! Otherwise, swap out to something that can Teleport you out of there!” he would yell as he realized just what the Regirock was up to; biblically-accurate eyes glittering and flashing ominously as the attack came screaming down from the general direction of the colossal golem.

No sooner had Doug said those words—not one, but both sources of the mysterious noise decided to call out to each other at the same time!

(Kind of like a diss track, but one that only Pokémon could understand.)

“What… what the fuck,” he sighed as he pinched the bridge of his nose.

“Haha, I think whatever’s making those noises heard you and challenged us to chase them down at the same time. Did you notice how one sounds antiquated, while the other is more… I don’t know how to put this, futuristic?!”

He then pinched the bridge of his nose. Hopefully they’d be able to find whatever the fuck was causing those noises to appear soon…

The other Rangers that were nearby were also scrambling; suddenly switching to either Fire and/or Ground-type Pokémon; since the two of them had pretty much confirmed that the Tinkaton were part-Steel typing, so there was that.

“Alright, good,” he would continue quietly under his breath as he saw more Fire-types emerging on the field on their side. Together, they would hold the line…

His Blaziken, out on the field, was getting faster and faster due to her Speed Boost ability; which allowed her to dance between the incoming attacks that the Tinkaton were tossing her way—

The surprise Gigaton Hammer coming from the one she was fighting very nearly caught her off-guard had she not spotted the tell-tale actions in time!

“Guin! Be careful!” he would yelp, immediately dashing out towards where she was—completely and totally unaware that there was another Tinkaton following him, getting ready to wallop the daylights out of him as well!

Oh, shit. Wait. These Pokémon weren’t spiders, were… wait.

It was like his mind had shut down and gone offline, because the Rabsca were literally spitting out… yikes! Instead of a child Pokémon there were noxious, purple chains spitting out of the balls that they were spinning…

“Oh, come on,” he hissed quietly as he summoned his Blaziken, Guinevere, once more.

“Can you… take care of that?” he would ask the dual-type, who would let out an abrupt squawk of shock before darting forward, her Speed Boost ability kicking into play.

Barring that, he would watch in alarm as the ground she was treading on would suddenly sink out from under her; as a pit trap opened up on the sands that she unfortunately happened to step on!

“Be careful!” he would call out, suddenly dashing forward himself; an attempt to help his hapless Pokémon that had most likely gotten pulled into a Trapinch’s sandy trap.

He could hear the jaws gnashing from here…

What made this worse was the tropical rain that was pouring all around them—typical from the Hoenn region to just suddenly change weather like it was some crazy—

“Yikes,” he would hiss quietly as the rain hampered visibility. Hopefully he’d be able to get close enough to help the Latias as it was trying to fight off the noxious chains that were trying to hold it down…

Were the chains causing this to happen without warning? Such terrible power…

Never mind if the same rolling feeling in his stomach was back, he would have to bear it just to get more information about what was happening!

The Tinakton he was tangling with was very much intent on squashing the Blaziken with another mighty swing of the enormous hammer, but realized the hammer was being too heavy!

So instead…

A surprise Flash Cannon attack would explode from the Tinkaton’s direction as they bid their time before they could swing the gigantic hammer again—

“Whatever you do, do not let them get past you! There’s way too many of them attacking as it is, if we lose our current position, then they’re going to spread out from where they’re coming from!” he would holler as this time, the Blaziken would best the burst of metallic energy with a Flame Burst of her own.

The chains, he noticed, were ominously binding the hammers that the Tinkaton held to their hands in case these were sent flying away.

“What in the absolute…” he would hiss quietly, realizing that the Tinkaton was laughing like a mad person possessed, before coming in swinging once again with the comically-huge hammer that was headed their way!

His Blaziken let out an angry squawking noise; before quickly using Mirror Move to throw the incoming Gigaton Hammer attack back at the culprit!

“Ugh, what is up with these shits?!” he would hiss under his breath as the two Pokémon clashed in an explosion of ringing steel.

Okay, if it wasn’t bad enough they hadn’t finished mapping out the entirety of Area Zero, this had to happen as well!

He sighed, before pinching the bridge of his nose. Normally, he would bust out either Alpha or Ro, however these Pokémon with the comically-huge hammers were causing mass mayhem and panic, swinging them around and… whoa. Those chains really had a macabre look to them, wouldn’t you say?

He blinked.

Okay, it was time for the heavy artillery.

Whipping out a particular Pokéball, he would then summon his Blaziken, aptly named Guinevere, in a flash of red light—just as one of the Tinkaton came screaming at him swinging that comically-large hammer!

“Whoa!” he would yelp as the Blaziken would swing into action, catching it off-guard with a surprise Blaze Kick and hopefully forcing the strange pink Pokémon to crash into another nearby Tinkaton!

Yikes.

Fact of the matter that when Dustox—normally nocturnal Pokémon—were being spotted in broad daylight, he realized that something was definitely up.

Geez, what in the flying absolute fuck was going on?!

(And to think he’d stopped by the city to pick up some buttermilk as well as some actual butter for cooking something! Well, cousin Elinor Anderson dearest had asked him for something to eat so who was he to say no to her?!)

Either way…

“Geez, this is bad,” he would continue quietly, radioing in the situation to any and all Rangers who happened to be nearby—and trying to summon Shalin Nariya to help deal with the extremely thick horde of Dustox and Beautifly that had settled around the city like a literal, living, flapping blanket…

“This shit is getting out of hand!”

Now, this would resolve into either one of two things:

The first instance would be the Gyarados chaining into Hurricane to blow all the Unown away; and they could make a clean getaway.

The second instance would be that same Gyarados would this time fry all the remaining Unown with a highly-potent, concentrated burst of Thunder damage…

Seeing as the little Josh was already making his getaway, he would whistle sharply once in Kali’s direction; and she was then free to drop whichever attack she wanted.

However, do remember that this is a perpetually angry Gyarados, so…

The first Hurricane cone of wind would come sweeping up any remaining Unown stragglers; before she would release another angry bellow and then drop a bolt of Thunder on the ones that she hadn’t managed to funnel away!

(Now that was a Gyarados for you!)

“Coming, coming!” he would yell as the silver Metagross would attempt to follow the other man down and out of the stretch that they were supposed to be explore—only for them to be repelled back by the sudden barrage of Unown that were coming from multiple directions all at once.

• Kali the Gyarados dealt a one-two punch in the form of Hurricane to sweep up all the Unown, before dropping a bolt of Thunder down the funnel!

As they would say, ‘desperate times call for desperate measures’.

The moment all the Koffing and Weezing were sighted, several APBs had been put out for Pokémon that had the Damp ability—simply because this particular Poison-type’s line had a tendency to detonate at completely random moments!

Thankfully he wasn’t too far away from where the veritable horde had been sighted.

“Yikes,” he would cringe the moment he arrived; immediately pulling out a Dive Ball and popping out Ryujin the Swampert.

“I don’t think they’re going to come after us, because you can prevent them from exploding, right?” he would confirm with his dual-type companion; who would nod as her Damp ability would come into play.

“Let’s get to work and thin the horde out.”

While he’d managed to locate other fellow Rangers who were helping with clearing out the hordes of Koffing and Weezing—some of them complained about headaches, and a general sense of unease and dizziness.

To be fair, even he was feeling the symptoms of being around so much poison for too long. Ugh. He could feel his stomach rolling the longer they stayed out here…
