[attr="class","devonpost"]the moment the one mightyena jumps back into the other copies is when tentacruel shifts her attention away. she dives into the water, giving chase to the other one that's now isolated and alone.

primarina has no choice but to take the full damage of the PLAY ROUGH. cuts and bruises litter her skin as the waters from the AQUA RING look to heal what little it can. she's in pain, hurting, but she remains calm.

the underwater battle becomes harder to see with the MISTY TERRAIN that hangs over it. alexander can barely see glimpses of their outlines but he trusts his team. this is what they were trained to do.

an ENCORE is called for by the primarina as she looks to lock the mightyena into its PLAY ROUGH. another POISON JAB whips out, looking to wrap around one of mightyena's legs only to drag it deeper into the waters.

[attr="class","devonpost"]their defense has been set up and will immediately be tested. the OVERDRIVE blasts forward with such intensity from the CHARGE that it ripples across the water. though it had aimed for the primarina, tentacruel shoots out from underneath the water and intercepts it with her entire body. the electricity zaps and she winces in pain, but her MIRROR COAT is quick to send shockwaves back their way for twice the damage.

tentacruel sinks back down into the ACID SPRAYed water but the damage only tickles due to her natural resistance. her CLEAR BODY renders the other effects of the move useless.

"now."

primarina claps her hands together and calls for an ENCORE from the ekans, compelling it to use the same move again. they continue to hold their positions; tentacruel at the front and primarina at the back.

- tentacruel intercepts the OVERDRIVE.
- tentacruel retaliates with MIRROR COAT on toxtricity for twice the damage.
- primarina uses ENCORE on ekans, forcing it to continue to use ACID SPRAY for the next few posts.

[attr="class","devonpost"]the ZAP CANNON surges through the water and causes brionne to tense up in pain, PARALYSIS taking hold of her. despite this, she sees the dracovish charging and does what she can to swim away from the impactful IRON HEAD. perhaps it's from the earlier ICY WIND that allows her to do so but she avoids the attack.

the MISTY TERRAIN coats itself over the surface of the water and makes visibility an issue. brionne uses this to her advantage as the water stills above her. she moves, doing her best to stay hidden.

[attr="class","devonpost"]alexander watches in surprise at how his opponent uses the attacks to their advantage. both meowth dance around the brunt of the attacks and counter to close the distance. how innovative; it leaves him impressed.

the METAL CLAW would have been devastating if not for carracosta's natural water-typing, but the cracks in his shell from the earlier SHELL SMASH weakens his resistance. he coils back from the damage, hurt, but stands his ground and within a blink of an eye, darts forward to counter with an AQUA JET. the impact should send the galarian meowth flying.

the double-team with the PAY DAY proves effective, however, and it leaves carracosta in a much more vulnerable position. if their opponents can focus their attacks on one, so can they.

tentacruel aims for the galarian meowth and follows it with a HYDRO PUMP, looking to sink it into the water.

[attr="class","devonpost"]SNARL does what it does and as annoying as it is, not much can be done about it. it damages his two pokemon and once again hinders primarina's offensive capabilities. but as the mightyena in the back starts to quiet, a tentacle emerges from the water before whipping at it for a POISON JAB.

the PLAY ROUGH finds connection and primarina cries out in pain. it leaves her vulnerable and she immediately looks to create distance. the AQUA RING covers and heals as she attempts to sink into the waters. still, the mightyena in the back will have to deal with a MOONBLAST even if it is weakened.

tentacruel acts as their vanguard and positions herself in between the opponent and the primarina. she knows her duty in this battle and they're content with fighting this from afar. a large wave of SURF soars towards the enemy.

primarina takes the opportunity to set up her defenses: an AQUA RING surrounds her, drawing from the waters all around.

[attr="class","devonpost"]the issue with attacking from range is that it allows a brief moment for a reaction. a counter. with how far lucario is, the AURA SPHERE has quite the distance to travel. it gives tentacruel ample amount of time to react to it.

the final BULLET PUNCH lands and this time it's enough to disrupt brionne's concentration over the ENCORE. the effects fade and the metagross is now free to do whatever it so wishes to. the momentum carries brionne back, plunging into the water. she's content with staying off land.

a large wave of SURF gathers to meet the sheer force of the AURA SPHERE. it doesn't render the attack useless but it does enough that by the time it reaches brionne, it does nothing more than annoy. the SURF travels across, targeting both pokemon.

from underneath the water, brionne shoots out another burst of HYDRO PUMP at the metagross.

[attr="class","devonpost"]it's a nice sunny day out and alexander is enjoying his time in the sun while he eats a delicious EGG sandwich. the contents sit well between the slices of the bread and they hold even as he walks. perhaps it's a natural gift he was born with to be able to eat a sandwich and not have its contents fall out the back. that's always a pet peeve.

[attr="class","devonpost"]it's never easy to see pokemon in pain but that's the reality of the world they live in. that is the very essence of battling; pokemon get hurt so they can learn and grow from the pain. the experience. to not be able to bear that concept is a fundamental issue.

that's why he pushed her: so she can get used to the burdens that come with battling, with the line of work they both are in. but that's not what he says to her question. again, alexander will always be truthful.
