"I speak the truth from my point of view."

He states blandly, eyes moving to the Whirlipede giving chase to a Bulbasaur, the former being swiped aside by the woman in favor of the ladder, Aeson quickly taking advantage of the opportunity she had presented with the occupied bug, a ball thrown in its direction, a read beam engulfing the pokemon, promptly encapsulating it.

Once more his eyes would move to Ayame, peering at her quietly, then promptly turn on his heels after the capture was confirmed.

"I appreciate the assist despite you being terrible company to keep. Good luck on your next venture and hopefully we won't run into one another again."

His eyes averted for a moment, looking to the treetops as the Mankey began to give chase. The rustling of leaves shifting over and over until they finally came to a halt, the Mankey returning, hanging a fainted Treeko down by its tail.

“Good job Dem.”

After giving the pokemon a look over he’d pull out a ball, tossing it the Treeko’s way, the pokemon dissolving into the ball with a red light. Once it had been encapsulated Aeson returned his eyes to the woman, a sharp look in them.

“Maybe. Or maybe you’ve spent too much time fooling yourself.”

He crouched down, looking at the ball as it wiggled, his arms resting atop his knees.

“There was a movie I watched once with a line in it that went. ‘You have to use it or admit that it’s pointless.’ I can’t help but make that connection to you and yours.”

His words were bland just as his expression was, the young man refusing to budge on the point he had made.

Aeson gulps hard, the sudden appearance of a Charizard almost catching him off guard. He made no sudden moves, but the Charizard, just as confused as he was, lashed out; a flamethrower shooting from its muzzle.

“Jyes-”

Before he could finish giving a command, the pokemon launched itself at them within the flames, its body enveloped as it propelled itself forward, flare blitzing towards the two.

“Shit.”

He whispered under his breath as he gave a tap to his belt, an Aggron releasing from a pokeball and forming a protective barrier in front of the man, staggering the Charizard for a moment.

“Did you get a picture of that ring thing?”

Aeson ask back to Spencer, looking over his shoulder as he half pays attention to the battle before them.

“I don’t remember speaking to you nor asking for your opinion.” He states bluntly, eyeing the two wild pokemon as they strolled by, continuing to speak to the one that had spoken to him. “But since you decided to butt in anyways, I already know the value of the typing. That is the main reason I belittled the ones that you currently have in your possession.”

His arms crossed, a plain expression on his face as he stared into her eyes.

“Just because something’s flashy doesn’t mean it’s useful.”

The calm outer demeanor betrayed the scathing words he spewed, malice obvious in his words yet lacking in tone.

“It’s called sarcasm, Spencer. You would know that if your observational skills were half as decent as you may think they are.”

Though he was not entirely at fault for assuming differently, the cadence of Aeson’s voice was a bit droning at times.

When he furthered on with his explanation, Aeson was less than intrigued, choosing to once more observe the surroundings, halting for a moment as a chill ran up his back, darkness engulfing the path ahead. A sound rang through his head, his mind too busy trying to come to a conclusion to what it may be to pin down exactly what it was.

Soon enough he would forgo thinking and release an Absol, stepping forward slightly as the silver coated pokemon stood at the ready before Aeson. It was ready to detect any such threats and act on them as they appeared.

As luck- or lack of any such myths- may have it, a figure did not trudge from the shadows, simply leaving itself enveloped within the darkness ahead, its voice bellowing in a raspy tone as it called out.

“Red or Blue?”

Aeson looked over his shoulder, giving a glimpse to Spencer for a moment before turning back to the darkness.

“Red.”

He answered in a confident tone, the lead stripped from Spencer before there was even a moment to consult the man. Aeson was the one that was called to escort him after all; the decision making was thought- no, known to be in his hands.

“Will do.”

He says with a slight smile, looking over to Izaak.

“Maybe we could look for new pokemon together while we’re at it. Make a day out of it, y’know?”

The happiness he felt was genuine, content to plan with the man he had come to trust as much as he did, with someone he considered as a true friend.

“I’ll be sure to visit more while you’re still here. Maybe after I beat the gym you and I can catch up like this again.”

His eyes stayed upon his friend for a little longer, examining him quietly.

“You beat me, and my team is pretty powerful, so you’re doing something right.”

He raised a leg, resting his arm onto the sloped knee as he looked further outward, continuing on after adjusting himself.

“Going on just to see how far you can go though huh? Sounds a bit uninspired if you ask me.”

It was such a simple reason, yet one he could not make sense of, the taste of victory always leading Aeson ever forward in his achievements. But to why or who he achieved those victories was another question entirely. Self-satisfaction? Praise from his parents? A sense of fulfillment? Not even he could answer this.

But there was no use pushing his own mental shortcomings onto another, Aeson choosing to bite his tongue instead of furthering on with his worries. Izaak had his own problems to deal with.

“We should train together sometime, I’d love to see what you and yours do to stay battle ready.”

Bug types were never a favorite of Aeson’s, the pokemon themselves never interesting him enough to add one onto his team. Though their quirkiness always intrigued him, the versatility that came in their secondary typing always finding a way to make up for their natural weaknesses, or add onto them in some way. That’s why he had decided to give them a chance come a new day- this day to be exact.

Upon his arrival to the forest, the young man released a mankey, the primate clinging to his back for a moment before vaulting onto an overhanging branch, seemingly enjoying the atmosphere it was presented with.

“Bug types.” He issued to the pokemon quickly, the mankey giving a full body nod to the man as it moved expertely through the trees overhead following along the path Aeson walked diligently.

He would come to a halt as his eyes set onto another, a woman seeming to enjoy herself with the pokemon nearby. Aeson remained quiet for a while before finally speaking up, harsh words escaping as he did.

“A Vivillon and Beautifly are poor choices, I wouldn’t want either of them.”

Words meant for the scout overhead, but loud enough to be overheard by the one before him.

The rhythmic pacing of their footsteps echoed casually through emptied alleyways, the occasional piece of litter lining the walls looked upon momentarily by Aeson in passing before returning his eyes forward.

The conversation between him and the man he had accompanied was of nothing other than a brief catching up of sorts with the gentleman, the two having a back and forth about each of their respective lives before Aeson shifted the conversation to the reason he had been called here in the first place.

“So… the voice asks you red or blue right? Do you plan on taking a picture of a voice? Or are you going to take a picture of the thing that tries to jump us? Maybe the scenery? And reeling back, if this thing attacks us, would you like a picture before or after I’ve taken care of it?”

If they were to be attacked Aeson was more than confident in his ability to quickly handle whatever it was that had shown itself to them whether it be man or otherwise. He could only imagine the reason he was called to accompany Spencer in the first place was because he knew how reliable of a person he was.

Casually he would set his arms to the side, a hand hovering over his ball clip as they continued forward.

Get a grass type? Where was the challenge in choosing type advantages against him when he did not have them to begin with. If he was going to win it was going to be with the pokemon he had lost to him with. And it seemed Izaak knew that well enough not to divulge into it more than surface level, a topic easily brush off to move onto the next.

The talk of work was something that intrigued Aeson a fair bit, the young man himself never having worked a day in his life. But the thought would only linger for a moment, before his comrade reflected the question previously asked back towards him.

“I’ve been training, and expanding my knowledge on different pokemon while doing so.”

His eyes moved towards the expanse before them as he rubbed a pokeball idly.

“I want to take on the league as soon as possible but I want to be ready to do so before I start. I’m sure we’re ready physically, but I just can’t bring myself to take the first step.”

Thoughts of failure would often cloud his mind when it set onto the league, challenges not yet faced seeming much more daunting when presented with such esteem.

“Honestly, whenever I think on it, I wonder why I even want to do it in the first place… Why do you do it, Izaak? Why do you go on as you do?”

He turned to his friend, a placid expression on his face as he looked into the mans eyes.

The sun set warmly over the horizon, an orange sea forming in the foreground as the gleaming giant slowly set behind. It was a calm evening, unforeign as it had been witnessed commonly by Aeson himself, the only difference this time being the companion he had brought along with him; a competitor with which he had run into a multitude of times, a man by the name of Izaak.

Aeson’s first instinct when it came to the man was traditionally challenging him, a declaration that would always end with him losing in the end; his attempt and failure to change the outcome just as fruitless as it has always been.

It had become routine for the two of them whenever they had run into one another. They’d lock eyes, battle, then find somewhere nearby to sit and chat with one another. Nothing had changed.

“I don’t understand how you can always get the 1-up on me. My team always plays perfectly but when it comes down to it, you always finish first. It’s honestly a little aggravating at times.”

A sigh escaped, heated breath meeting the air, releasing stress as it dissipated into the tropical climate.

“Whatever. Next time I’ll be sure to properly stomp you. For now lets just, catch up. What have you been up to since we split? Have you beaten any gyms? Won any contest? Cleaned any beaches?”
