A jammed door?[break][break]

Bailey arched a brow, ready to ask for clarification—either this was a new neighbor, or the worst burglar she had ever met.[break][break]

Thankfully, it was the former.[break][break]

“...People can live there?” And she turned her head, trying to spy the towering spire in the distance. Its shape barely visible beyond the trees, where their gnarl of branches coiled uncontrolled at the outskirts of her home.[break][break]

A road ran that way, off her property, to that lonely homestead.[break][break]

“Shit. You're gonna have to get something to chase off the ghost pokemon too, I bet.”[break][break]

Sparing a shrug, the Champion would walk to the entrance of her garage; a wave gesturing for the man to follow.[break][break]

The garage was old fashion. Rather than a switch, she would bow to grasp the handle and lift it manually. With its creak, she exposed the contents of the space while causing her pokemon inside to scatter; some dark and some ghost, who slipped back at the presence of a stranger.[break][break]

“Oh, yeah. I'm Bailey,” and she passed by the line of motorcycles that followed the wall. Some new, some old, and some still in progress. It was a collection that would only belong to a mechanic or an enthusiast.[break][break]

Her workbench was a mess, but a mess that she knew how to navigate.[break][break]

“Could just remove the doorknob,” and she held up a screwdriver, “or, we can go medieval on the bitch with a crowbar.”[break][break]

What wonderful language.[break][break]

“Up to you. If you're gonna replace the door, then...” her eyes drifted to the crowbar.

Very carefully.[break][break]

“Kapow, fuckin' come on,” Bailey would protest, despite earlier advice. “Just lemme do something with you.”[break][break]

The Champion approached her protesting dragon with an opened container of foundation makeup; brooding color pallet intended for Halloween as she extended the fuzzy brush.[break][break]

He bowed, ducked, and side-stepped her approach like a boxer in a ring; he whined, sounding less and less like a noble fighting dragon. In his hands, he clutched his trick-or-treat bucket, as if the orange plastic would be able to ward her approach.[break][break]

“Sit down! Sit!” But the trainer did not have enough badges to force her pokemon through this torture.[break][break]

They chased each other around the tight confines of the dressing room. “Kapow! It's not gonna hurt!”[break][break]

He acted like she were a liar.[break][break]

Then, a thunderous crash from inside the dressing room, as the Kommo-o entangled itself in the white drapes that had been intended to give them privacy. He tore it straight from the steel rings that had held it aloft, and he struggled in his encasement with manic eyes.[break][break]

Finally, freedom![break][break]

“Fuck's sake! Fine! You win!”[break][break]

She gave up.[break][break]

He chewed holes through the sheet, pulling it over his face with triumph.

The Champion felt winded, coming to the shivering spewpa with open arms. Despite being wild, some shuffle into her tight embrace. Maybe it was the primal force that coaxed them close, as Bailey Cooper would feel warm—almost feverish—to the touch.[break][break]

Still, her unfocused gaze would stare up from the top of their heads, focusing on her own pokemon in the distance.[break][break]

Paddington, her Bewear, sat on the ground with bundles of spewpa wrapped in its fuzzy arms; a kind and cozy bind to prevent their shivering.[break][break]

After a moment, the Champion would rest her chin atop one of the warmed bug-types, wishing she could stay here for forever.

Her laughter died in tandem with their foe. Bailey's manic eyes losing their glimmer at the realization that the Xurkitree was truly dead.[break][break]

Yet, flames still simmered.[break][break]

That was it?[break][break]

Her momentum ground to its unexpected stop, leaving her to pant with a chest-rising urgency. Despite all of this build-up, it had not been how she had envisioned it.[break][break]

Victory had not felt won. Residual shock, like the remaining charge in the Xurkitree's cables, trembled in her hands.[break][break]

Her pokemon injured; cradled in capsules unable to see what had felt underwhelming.[break][break]

It was not enough.[break][break]

Shaking, the Champion has to struggle with her own twisted mental foil.[break][break]

This should have been sufficient. This should have been enough to finally satiate her. Her hands twisted into her shirt, still hungry, still undeserving.[break][break]

It was a contradictory thought; on the ground, she had prayed that it would not die so soon.[break][break]

Because she thought she would have felt better.[break][break]

But, she does not.[break][break]

The primal might in her body felt capable of filling the void; capable of filling what had been missing. So, what more would it take?[break][break]

Her eyes drifted, suddenly clouded by the twisting contortion of green. As leaves cut and slice into the flames that emanated from her body, Bailey would grunt and grimace, raising a hand to her face. The twisting tongues of flames unable to dampened the sharped blades of the leaf tornado.[break][break]

Groudon would not humor such transgressions. With each breath, the Legendary's own inner heat condencing in a similar steam; yet, eyes would focus on Kaine Ikari 's Scyther and Shiftry[break][break]

The red beast marched, traversing grounds once covered by the stretch of now retreating seas; desolate lands beating down against the Legendary with an empowering splendor.[break][break]

He grunted, raising prodigious claws as one hand encased Bailey. The darting pokemon, akin the flies, would not be tolerated.[break][break]

Beneath the ground, magma-like force churned and raised to line the ground red with its veins.[break][break]

And with a bursting force, the Legendary would cry to the distant skies as it released Lava Plume right underneath itself with a wide, stretching radius.[break][break]

Ground burst, letting lava manifest and rise forth like a fountain's burst.[break][break]

Bailey, covered in the shield that was Groudon's prodigious claws, wondered what it would take for her to feel normal again.[break][break]

The wish tag dissolved, filaments scattered to the winds of a place she had never been.[break][break]

With its departure, Bailey fell deeper; thoughts swirling in an odd torrent, repeating a request that had been redundant to her deafened ears. With her dissipation, with her departure, the onslaught of white noise was enough to make her hands clench to the sides of her face.[break][break]

A scream that was lost to the static; she had known the date for the event that occurred at Naval Rock. That meant that this was chronological. Even as her body found itself dragged through the very fabric of reality, it seemed to follow the faintest of strings. Along, through the events of Hoenn, their Champion tumbled.[break][break]

And she knew what was coming.[break][break]

Feet to the ground, the Champion found herself standing in the scene of her reoccurring nightmares. The air. The stench. It registered with the strongest of flashes.[break][break]

Bedlam.[break][break]

She trembled, wondering how reliving this experience could be so much more terrifying than the first. A fist, clenched, beating down against her locked knees. Grounded. Motionless.[break][break]

Her mouth was dry, closing, sealing.[break][break]

Recognition.[break][break]

“Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you—!” She was on the same street again.[break][break]

It approached.[break][break]

“Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you—!” Intangible, but still standing in the middle of its midst.[break][break]

She knew what was coming; the stretching length of explosions that tore the street asunder; lights, burning too bright, gouged and rendered all that they touched.[break][break]

And they passed through her phantasmal image; but, that was not what she had feared.[break][break]

She feared her scream.[break][break]

Down the road, Bailey Cooper was cast across the pavement; wailing.[break][break]

Her elbow had shattered, jabbed straight into the curb with such a force that the entire joint had splintered. The younger Bailey, torn and battered, could not hold back her voice in the waves of her excruciation.[break][break]

And her pokemon came to her aide.[break][break]

Pallosand.[break][break]

“Fuck you! Fuck you! Fuck you!” She didn't want to see this. Her intangible fists beat into the beast, begging, pleading, screaming.[break][break]

“Stay away from him! Stay away! He was my pokemon, you fucking sack of shit! He was my pokemon! He was my friend, and you—you—!”[break][break]

It would not fear a death that would come twice.[break][break]

This time, she watched.

“That right?” Bailey rumbled, keeping her arms situated in their gentle fold. “Guess an observer lookin' in would think that way. Shame it doesn't pan out that way.”[break][break]

The subject dropped, and she felt keen to let its praise wither.[break][break]

She knew what was out there; knew it cared little for how someone carried themselves.[break][break]

It was the same force that should have killed her. Countless times, she had been thrashed, humbled, and left to stew in her own shortcomings.[break][break]

Gifts, rather than rewards.[break][break]

Her eyes focused to the task ahead, listening to the older man's exposition with a struggling interest. Her attention had always waned during lectures or speeches, and it took a steel focus for her to seem like an alert student.[break][break]

At least, until the energy hit.[break][break]

“yowhatthefuckwasthat—” Ramblings spewed with an almost inhuman speed.[break][break]

Her pupils dilated, indicating the rush.[break][break]

Oh fuck.[break][break]

“I don't feel so good,” but it was too late. Their first lesson had already begun.[break][break]

After the lesson, and she was still wired.[break][break]

It was impossible to stand in one place. The Champion paced, akin to a zigzagoon caught in a thicket. Back and forth, she moved with an undaunted stride with her hands clasped behind her back.[break][break]

And plastered across her face was the worst of scowls.[break][break]

Stances could be cool, but... the whole routine?[break][break]

At least she wouldn't have to be the person sticking their head through their legs.[break][break]

She swallowed the bitter pill, unable to suppress her expression as she raised her body into the crane stance.[break][break]

“...Hiyaaaah?” Her declaration was weak.

Bailey does not stir from her perch; her hand pressed to the side of Groudon's neck as solar beam carved its groove through the gargantuan creature, rendering away the Xurkitree's bindings with its charred path.[break][break]

Her markings were still aglow, and they burned brighter with her satisfaction as cords sundered and fell without their supports. In the fraying entanglement of black cables, the Champion of Hoenn laughed.[break][break]

Because it was oh so satisfying to finally feel like her hands were at the reigns; oh so satisfying to turn the tide. Frantic emotions, bled to stress from earlier instances, now clouted and solidified as she tried to find her triumph.[break][break]

Hurt her pokemon? Kill her pokemon? Go ahead and fucking try.[break][break]

She remembered how her tears had burned when she had held her togekiss; remembered how feeling alone in those moments had almost consumed her.[break][break]

But, now, she was alone atop her Legendary, and surrendered to its might with a different motivation.[break][break]

To win.[break][break]

Markings lit aflame; brighter, brighter, until its flames crawled across her very skin.[break][break]

Tongues of flames expelled themselves from her very skin, flowing like a mantle from which the mark of a victory star served as its clasp.[break][break]

She emitted desolate lands, feeling it all burn and rush from her body with explosive results.[break][break]

“Topple the bitch,” and her words ran so hot, steam was what spilled from her lips.[break][break]

Then, came fissure; Groudon slamming a closed fist to the ground with the intention of rendering apart the limb still anchored to the ground.[break][break]

Groudon's fist glowed bright, then white, as it sundered and burst in a confluence of magma-like intensity; then, the earth beneath the closed appendage would shudder.[break][break]

Her eyes would drift, spying the distant generals.[break][break]

She smiled.[break][break]

Bailey felt like emerging from that pool of thought, opting to swim to something more shallow as her hand itched at her collarbone; something in the old man's presence making her resonate with something that she still struggled to comprehend.[break][break]

Something akin to friction made her skin tingle, and the markings that traced beneath her clothes concentrating the warmth.[break][break]

“To be entirely honest, I didn't think I'd make it this far,” and that spoke true to her entire life, to her entire existence.[break][break]

The Champion would give a weak shrug, her hands bawled into the pockets of her jacket. “So, now that I'm here, I guess I wanna see how far I can go.”[break][break]

She would give pause, glancing at the others in the room.[break][break]

“And... uh, 'course I wanna get better. I got things to look after and things to protect, and I'm real bad at knowing when I'm in too deep.”[break][break]

Compelled to clear her throat, the Champion still felt silence as it elapsed, and was reminded that speaking with conviction was not her strongest suit. “I'm not here for validation or that bullshit. Tell me if I suck.”

Something washed over her.[break][break]

An unseen force; Bailey trembled as it seeped into her skin, and felt it run warm to her core.[break][break]

The markings came to light, bleeding the blacks to something illuminate; something her eyes had not seen before, calling back to the stange, primal-like evolution that Groudon had undergone when they had first met.[break][break]

“Fuck,” and she was not used to this feeling, not used to the way that her body acted like a sponge that was eager to drain all that it came into contact with.[break][break]

The energy was radiating from somewhere far away, and she knew that by the current; like feeling a breeze that ran fast when cascading over mountains, this was something intangible that her body was able to sense when it crossed over her.[break][break]

There was no time to process the feeling. She could only hope that it was a sign of victory.[break][break]

Her eyes cast back, able to spy Aggron as it knelt next to her fainted Steelix. The thumbs-up from the shadow pokemon signaling that the Steelix was still alive, but out cold.[break][break]

Then, over her other shoulder, witnessing her Kommo-o as electricity rendered it unable to move.[break][break]

“I fucked up,” and she could almost feel Groudon's displeasure in the low, throaty rumble. “Oh, come on! You're a ground type, okay? You stomached it!”[break][break]

Three pokeballs were fetched. She attempted to withdraw her remaining pokemon on the field, knowing that they had run rampant for long enough.[break][break]

“Do something about the bands. They're like a zipties holding this thing together. Do something to slice 'em,” but reaching such heights, even with precipice blades, would be an issue.[break][break]

So, Groudon rumbled even deeper, tapping into something in its gullet as light began to pool and overflow from jagged teeth; solar beam.[break][break]

And the magnificent cascade was condensed, localized into a laser-like strike that swept across the body of the creature; from the ground up, Groudon raised its head as it intended to slice the cluster of white bands that ran from one leg to its waist... if the beam could sustain itself across such distance.[break][break]

“I might need a makeup artist,” And her throat felt like it was keen to restrict, but she swallowed the urge. Moments of doubt made her keen to silence, but she knew that not all secrets could be left to foster alone.[break][break]

A roll of the shoulders unveiled the markings, her free arm disengaged from its leather sleeve; no finesse or glamor in the way it was revealed.[break][break]

“One of those legendaries happen to uh... take a shine to me. If you could call it that. I got these things everywhere, now.”[break][break]

And she wondered if this would be a mistake, but refused to relent; what were the chances of making two mistakes in a single day?[break][break]

“I would have mentioned it earlier, but everything derailed.” Bailey waved away the air, knowing that was a thinly veiled excuse.

This was unfamiliar.[break][break]

Bailey plummeted, unable to sway gravity from shackling her down; with every second, she can feel her acceleration, and the way that her innards curled, as she reached the pitch of her descent.[break][break]

Above her, high in the sky, an unknown legendary contorted with an unnatural movement, as if twisted to something that defied its original shape. Like clay thrown too fast to a wheel, it threatened to spin out of control, to rampage as this new and flawed iteration.[break][break]

Vikavolt grabbed her arm, beating its wings with a pitch that buzzed in her ears.[break][break]

They swept, pulling with a low arch to break her fall with the gentlest of grooves.[break][break]

As they do so, reality distorted, and she could see a sky of tags.[break][break]

One hand pinched the curling paper, taking one for her own.[break][break]

She knew nothing of this tower, nothing of the legendary, and even less of the faces that blur. Those that were familiar, those that fought, those that fall—[break][break]

The Champion looked to the tag, able to identify that it was for a wish.[break][break]

One thought. She does not utter it aloud.[break][break]

I wish to see what will await me.[break][break]

Because she was always being bombarded, and it would be nice to be prepared for once.[break][break]
