Night had fallen upon Slateport beach, yet the festivities of Summer were only just starting. Since summer was finishing soon, the Slateport mayor had wanted to organize just one last dance before the month would end, yet he had no one that could teach or guide the dancers. If only someone knew some traditional dances from Alola, that would be a god send...[break][break]

Fast forward a couple of hours, Balder was now assigned as a teacher for the dance party. His mission? Teach them the Dance of Fire, or Dance of Summer or any other dances related to the joys of this hot temperature that were granted by the summer season. That's the easy part, as there is numerous dances that even kids can learn.[break][break]

The hard part was... having any students. It seems like no one wanted to be present, be it because it wasn't such an exciting project, or because of who the teacher was. To think he wasn't being paid for this too... Why was he there to begin with?

The beach feels so much better to be in now that the sun is gone and the moon shines brightly with its entourage of stars. It's a very pretty view, enhanced by an orchestra of waves crashing against the shore.

Cool sand under her feet and a drink in her hand, she walks alongside her alolan meowth. Personally, Erin's just trying to get to the other side of the beach because her meowth is whining for some barbecued fish, but the lone man and the long batons buried in the sand catch her attention. Either way, the largely empty area is on her way.

As Balder was almost considering giving up and heading back to find a place to sleep, a voice rose from behind him. The bulky man turned around to find out that a woman, drink in hand, and her alolan meowth were staring at him. The man rubbed the back of his head as he replied. I guess you could say that. I was supposed to teach an Alolan Dancing class so that everyone can do a final summer dance tomorrow but... Yeah."[break][break]

He moved his arm to show the void around them. "Seems like none of them deigned to show up. I dunno if it's because of who I am or if because the mayor is just that lazy." He brought his attention back to the woman and most precisely her Meowth. A cat from his homeland, from the looks of it. He didn't seem to share the same attitude as those from Alola, but that might just be how he's acting now.[break][break]

And what about you, Young lady? Heading to meet someone? At the barbecue perhaps?" The man knew there was a barbecue being hosted further down the beach, but he had decided to ignore it and just focus on the task he was supposed to be doing. To no avail obviously.

It's hard to tell what's going on in her mind when the man tells her of his dancing classes. "You're a dancing instructor, then." It's not a question. Erin has no idea who the man is, so obviously she's not scared of him. She supposes it has to do with his muscular form. It can certainly be intimidating. Not her problem, at any rate. He doesn't seem dangerous, and if he were to become it at some point, she could protect herself.

Her gaze flies to her meowth at the same time that the man's does. While his is curious, though, hers is amused. Impish, almost. Oh, this is about to take a funny turn. She smiles.

"Food can wait. We'll join the class. Rather, he will." Her hand gestures towards the meowth. "Go on and give it a try, 24K."

And that's how the alolan meowth finds himself at the mercy of a fire dancer. A confused, drawn-out 'meow?' escapes his lips. Erin is as excited as he is appalled. "What's the first move?" she encourages.

The way she indicated he was a dancing teacher... It wasn't a question, but an affirmation, judging from her tone. "Well, not exactly. I'm a pokemon trainer from Alola, but I know our traditional dances so-" The man was cut short by the words of the lady, saying that... Her meowth would participate and not herself.[break][break]

The Alolan instruction slowly blinked at her words. "You want me to teach your Alolan Meowth how to dance?" Good thing the man didn't say what he was thinking out loud, because he would be questioning her sanity. It's a good thing he didn't plan on teaching the actual flame dance practiced on Akata island.[break][break]

Yet, the woman was serious. Proceeding to ask what was the first step. Balder sighed. "I'll play along then. Meowth, step forward." Saying those words, Balder lit up the sticks behind him with a lighter, but left them stuck in the ground. They would only serve to light the location. "Now imitate what I do, the first steps should be easy." Balder brought up his arms on the right side of his body, then proceeded to do small steps towards the right while imitating wave movements with his arms. After 3 steps, he moved his arms to the left and repeated the maneuver, stepping towards the left this time.

She raises a finely trimmed eyebrow at his question. "Is there a problem? Do you think him incapable?" Of course not. It was a rhetoric question and the instructor, or not instructor according to him, complies soon enough.

There's a hint of disappointment visible on her face when, rather than use the fire to dance, it's used to light up the place. She was looking forward to it, too. Another sip and her glass is emptied, so she busies herself with her phone instead. It's taken out and help in the perfect angle to film her meowth's dancing.

"What did you say this dance was called? And where from?" she asks moments later. It turns out the dance is a lot cuter and relaxing than she expected. TikTok-worthy, even. A traitorous smile makes its way to her lips.

Disappointed wasn't really the word he would've used, but rather confused, or maybe even uncertain. Why would she request him to teach her Meowth how to dance? If he were to consider anything, it could've been as a sort of punishment? Especially if she expected him to use the fire sticks.[break][break]

In which case, it would've been impossible. Balder could indeed execute that dance, but the Meowth... The stick was too big for him, he'd either burn himself or extinguish the fire because of the sand. And the alolan man wanted the pokemon to have a fun time doing the dance at least. Otherwise, it would defeat the purpose of the moves.[break][break]

Suddenly, the lady proceeded to ask where the dance was from and what was its name. No use hiding it right? As he proceeded to show the 2nd part of the dance, Moving his arms up slowly before dropping them and bringing them back up in a cross, Balder explained the origins briefly. "This is called the Flame Dance, hails from my homeland: Alola. Nowadays, we usually do this dance ton inspire the young ones doing the island challenges."

If he were to take an even closer look, he'd notice her typing along to his words, taking note of every single word she could add to the TikTok story's tags.

Now she only needs to add a comment about where to find them. Finally, she looks up from her phone, eyes widened in surprise. "Name's Erin. I forgot to introduce myself earlier. You know 24K."

Luckily for Erin, Balder was a bit too focused on making sure the Meowth was doing the steps properly. Which, surprisingly, he was. The cat seemed like a quick learner. While there were minor errors here and there, it wasn't too bad to warrant a repeat or a break to examine the mistakes made.[break][break]

Suddenly, the woman introduced herself as Erin, and her cat as... 24k? That's an odd name. It's true that they had failed to go through the proper introductions steps earlier, but better late then never. "That's a nice name. As for me, I'm Balder. Balder Schwartz." He did prefer to keep it brief, especially because he didn't want to mention how he had been wanted for a while.[break][break]

Seeing how Meowth had gotten a good grasp of all the steps, Balder decided to resume from the beginning and do the whole dance, having the cat follow his lead. Maybe the girl would actually join them, now that the cat had mastered the moves? Maybe they would Dance the night away?
