it's the rising."

She's distracted, attempting to remember the steps to a dance she'd learned years ago during her childhood. For a moment she swears she can hear a familiar voice go 'one, two, three, one two three' before it fades away and she's back in the faux haunted mansion, dust swirling around her feet from her recent movement.

As Alecto moves to leave the room she does her best not to look in the mirror.

The main corridor stretches all the way to the end of the mansion. She can see a wide window overlooking the wilderness outside, but most of it is boarded up. Here there is more activity, and a few pokémon rush past her. Alecto ignores them all as she leans against a wall and closes her eyes. Memories are screaming out in her head, begging to be heard. A breath, two. She shoves the memories away and locks the key. Down that path lies nothing but heartache.

Stepping away, Alecto continues her exploration of the mansion.

A door creaks open as she walks past it and Alecto halts her leasurely walk through the corridor to peer at it with curious eyes. Most things so far have been strangely calm; except for the Phantump, she's seen close to no ghostly activity.

So it is with growing curiosity that she makes her way to the open door, stepping into a dark room. Not just shadowed; fully dark.

She's prepared for it, but still jumps slightly when the door slams closed behind her. A cackle echoes in the space around her and she follows its source, but it moves just as a cold feeling brushes past her arm.

Now this is a haunted house.

If it were not completely and utterly dark in this room, someone might have seen the absolutely delighted expression on Alecto's face. Even the cold breeze that makes the hairs on the back of her neck stand on end (and doesn't made sense given that this is an enclosed space) doesn't bother her too much.

Alecto follows the giggles until she trips over something, the resulting yowl informing her that she's probably nearly stepped on another Purrloin. But she already has one, and unfortunately it is too dark in this room for Alecto to take notice of the cat's unusual coloring.

Instead her hands reach out for the darkness in search of some sort of reference point. She winces when she finds a small chandelier, it's metallic surface somehow sticking to her fingers. Why couldn't it have been clean?

She puts it back into place and turns, finding that she's utterly lost. The dimensions of this room don't make sense given the rooms on either side of it. Or maybe being in the dark has befuddled her somehow. Or maybe-

Maybe something is afoot.

Alecto's hand brushes up against something cold and not-quite-there, like she has just put her hands inside a bucket full of ice. The sudden sensation vanishes, leaving an unpleasant tingle in its wake.

Then it is back, but this time it only brushes the side of her torso. For a moment the area there is numb to the touch, as if frozen. Alecto pokes at it until all feeling returns, then listens to her surroundings.

A childish giggle echoes around the room and - strangely - inside her head too. There's a ghost in here, or several, toying with her.

"Show yourselves," Alecto croons out sweetly, hands on her remaining safari ball.

Laughter meets her request, high-pitched and childish. Alecto still has a safari ball in her hand, but she doesn't throw it - she wants to take a look at the creatures who are haunting her. But for that, she first has to find the door and let some light in.

Hands out in front of her, the dark-haired woman stumbles into cardboard boxes and others objects strewn around the room. She is utterly blind, but she manages to eventually find solid walls beneath her fingertips. Following along and feeling for grooves in the textured surface, Alecto finds that this room might be some sort of storage room. The floor seems to be littered with all sorts of objects - obstacles now - and the walls themselves seem to be a perch for countless pieces of - what Alecto supposes must be artwork, though she can't be quite sure.

Eventually, she finds the door and opens it, having to narrow her eyes at the light that draws in. When she looks back, the storage room is empty.

Her steps are almost soundless in the gloom of this haunted mansion as she makes her way to the end of the corridor. Massive windows are boarded up, but Alecto can see a few beams of moonlight passing through the rotted pieces of wood. As she approaches she can see that the walls are stained with humidity, the wallpaper peeling in a way that reminds Alecto of cheesy horror flicks.

"Ah, more stairs?"

Instead of a door leading to another room, there is a set of stairs at the end of the corridor. They lead down into darkness. Alecto, being Alecto, lets the faint shadow of a grin curl her lips before she slowly makes her way down into the dark.

If the image of Alecto voluntarily diving into darkness isn't a metaphor for her life, she doesn't know what is. The moonlight that spills into the corridor doesn't reach far into the stairs and Alecto has to rely on senses other than sight to find a way not to injure herself permanently as she walks down the stairs. Webs gather on her arms - she can felt their silk-like touch over the skin of her hands.

What seems to be a cold flame burns ahead. Alecto stills for a moment, then slowly resumes her walk. Her path leads her into a wide room that she finds familiar - it must be close to the entrance. Moss-green eyes subtly fall on the flickering purple lights - two now - that haunt her steps. She can see the familiar shape, its discolored appearance piquing her interest.

"Come closer, little spirit..." She chants out, her voice echoing strangely in the chamber. There's a safari ball in her hands, and she presents it to the Phantump when it closes the distance between it and herself.

With a flash of the safari, the pokémon is engulfed. Silence falls over the room, heavy and oppressive. It is time to go.
