On aesthetics alone, Rustboro is Gavin's favourite city. Its historical buildings and paved stone streets are beautiful in the moonlight. Beneath those streets, a complex network of sewers provide the perfect breeding ground for poison-types.[break][break]

priam shakes the backpack containing such tools from his back, the various clinks and noise it makes confirming the affirmation for the question. "yup!" he quickly notices his volume as he corrects himself with a more hushed voice. "yup."

he shifts it to his front and takes out a flashlight from it, lighting up the way for them as they come inside. there's scurrying from small pokemon the moment the sudden burst of light hits the sewers, but at least it cleared the way.

"where exactly are we doing this? or are we just, i'unno, doing it wherever?"

it probably was already explained to him, but priam remembered spending the entire explanation trying to hype himself up for a sewer adventure. it did little to get him excited, however.

Gavin's soft chuckle echoes, as do his footsteps as he leads the way. He does his best to stay along the raised part of the tunnel and out of the muck, but it overflows in places and suggests an infestation had already begun. He frowns as his boots squelch in the refuse.[break][break]

"There's a spot a couple hundred yards from here we want to aim for." Gavin's shadow dances in the beam of Priam's flashlight as he gestures forth. "If there's any trouble we just deploy wherever."[break][break]

Klefki settles back on his belt. "You got poison or steel if this gets rough?"

he taps the array of pokeballs on his belt, making a clinking sound as his finger taps the metallic surface of one of them. he has it for an entirely different reason unrelated to the mission, but it fits the criteria that gavin was looking for, so there's that going for him.

"i got forretress with me," he answers. "it can explode and stuff." with stuff meaning hazards, even priam wasn't sure if it's going to be useful in an enclosed space such as the sewers. "that's kinda useful, right?"

he shines the light up ahead of them. there's little to no interference so far, although priam gets disturbed by it if only because there's nothing much action going.

"are we there yet?" he asks like the impatient kid that he is.

Satisfied with the answer, especially due to Forretress' steel-typing as opposed to poison, Gavin nods in response to its usefulness. "Could be. If we collapse the closest access point on our way out, they'll have more difficulty getting in to fix our mess."[break][break]

He doesn't normally utilize explosions, but even Gavin can admit their uses.[break][break]

"Not even close," he says. After they walk a bit longer, Gavin identifies a marker along one wall and amends, "All right, we're about three-quarters down, now, and no trouble, but we're bound to start running into the local, ah, wildlife."[break][break]

Sure enough, the sludge comes alive with the movements of so many poison-types. Gavin wrinkes his nose. "They give you any gas masks in that bag?"[break][break]

having spent time on slums and similar settings, priam has grown accustomed to the smell that he can tolerate it. it's not until gavin asks for masks that he realizes that they're reaching dangerous levels of toxic.

"lemme check."

priam isn't actually sure about the answer even though he'd already taken a peek inside the bag. he searches for it, one hand going deep in the bag, and finds a pair of gas masks for them. he hands one of them to gavin before he wears one of them himself.

"let the wildlife come at us! we can take 'em down!"

he takes his forretress' pokeball out and feints throwing it around to show his readiness. he doesn't stop until they reach the marker for their destination, from which he finally settles down from being hyperactive.

"so, what now?" priam asks as he settles his backpack down.

It's with relief that Gavin accepts the gas mask when it's offered, his breaths becoming audible as he puts it on and adjusts it for comfort. He's surprised Priam hadn't been the one to complain but, too focused on their mission, doesn't think to ask.[break][break]

Gavin's laughter at Priam's antics is warped by the mask.[break][break]

They reach the location at last and Gavin puts his Klefki on sentry duty to alert them of any incoming threat. To Priam, Gavin indicates an access point that he'd not been able to rob the key for. "That's what we want to blow, after we release the Pokemon. Should be some balls in that bag."[break][break]

Gavin had brought some, as well, and releases them to run wild.

he finally releases his pokemon on the exit that gavin pointed out. an explosion occurs and the exit is sealed for a second time. priam recalls the pokemon before he starts to crouch down and messes with the backpack and its contents.

"here we go!"

the explosion had already stirred the sewers' residents, and moreso when gavin and priam releases pokemon here and there. stronger and larger poison-types than the wild pokemon around them start to run rampant and quickly assimilate themselves with the sewers amid the confusion priam's forretress' explosion brought.

"do we go now?" priam asks as he wears the empty backpack again.

Gavin covers his ears and braces himself against a wall as the explosion rattles the tunnel. It's loud, made even more so as it echoes down the winding maze of sewers, and this is the part that was make-or-break. They hadn't run into any trouble yet but it was about to come running to them.[break][break]

"Now we fucking run," Gavin confirms, with a grin wild from adrenaline. "Careful not to slip."[break][break]

The damned Pokeathalon had trained him for this; he sprints down the tunnel and leaps over puddles of sludge as if they were obstacles in that hell of a summer. He pauses every now and then to ensure that Priam's doing all right, not wanting to leave the kid behind. Voices echo in the distance; they've figured out the collapsed tunnel and were no doubt making their way to it.[break][break]

Gavin all but skids to a halt next to their exit and ushers Priam through. "I'm right behind you, I gotta lock up after to throw 'em off the trail." His Klefki jingles.

priam is so used with running away that he bolts the moment gavin gives the signal. he was a runner, both in terms of his usual job for rocket and being able to actually run. he's trained for this moment.

"i'm going!"

priam trusts gavin to do his part so he concentrates on getting away instead. he eventually makes it out, as he cheers for gaving to catch up and lock the gates once he does.
