Was it weird that Maverick spoke with his pokemon as if they could understand and respond to him? Yes! Was it strange how he treated them almost like they were humans not just animals? Absolutely! Does Maverick really care what you think? Fuck no! Everyone had there own way of communication and treating their pokemon and his, was no different. And to the gym leader, this was a hard thing to do. He wasn’t really sure how to communicate it or how his pokemon would react to such news. After all, the creature probably didn’t even care. But despite this, the trainer still felt the need to tell the spotted mightyena this. It felt right.[break][break]

As the pair ventured further into the wilderness of the safari zone, the scarred man tried to gather his thoughts. He might be thinking way to hard for this and being over dramatic about it as well. But to him, it felt necessary. Warm gaze flickered to see a hooper waddle by. Rurik let out a low growl in response, ears turned back as his lips peeled back ever so slightly. The human let a light chuckle escape him, hand extended out to pet the spotted canine. “Easy boy,” he mocked, running his hands between his ears, “I don’t think that wooper means any harm.” Rurik let out a small whine, a pout appeared on his expression as he nudged into Maverick hand. “Let’s keep looking,” he chuckled again, hand retreated back into his pockets as a cool breeze sent chills down his spine, “I don’t want to be here for too long.”[break][break]

The mightyena’s behavior changed, sticking close to Maverick’s side as his ears perked up. His ebony nose wrinkled, taking in the scents around them. His human let out another sigh, feeling the uneasiness. Rurik let out a small whine again, head nudged the humans side. Warm gaze flickered down to the canine, the edges of his lips tugged up slightly. “Do you remember…. Who your father is?” He asked, finally giving up and getting straight to the point, “Rhosco? A mightyena like you.”

The trainer wasn’t sure how the mightyena was going to react to the news that he found his father. For those who are unaware, Rhosco the Mightyena is Rurik’s father. Rhosco is a nasty mightyena who kills both humans and pokemon for the fun of it, loving the taste blood. It’s almost like the creature is possessed by a demon or something. And when Rurik get too caught up in a battle or a fight, he turns into his father. It is this reason why he hates his father. Rurik believes that part of the demon is in him too. Luckily, Rurik got most of his mothers personality but his father still haunts him.[break][break]

And as soon as the trainer murmured the name, his gaze shifted to the creature to see what kind of reaction it would cause. The mightyena paused in his tracks, gaze instantly locked onto the humans, ears forward, and tail lowered. It definitely got his attention. The human cleared his throat, feeling uneasy for a moment. “Well.. I found him,” he informed the mighyena, a grimise flashed over his expression, “Not intentionally. But sense I did find him again, maybe its fate. We can try to help him.” The mightyena’s expression shifted from shock to aggressive. Nose scrunched to reveal his teeth in distaste, a low dip growl rumbled in his chest. Maverick knew this wasn’t Rurik retaliation, more just he didn’t like the idea.[break][break]

Warm gaze flickered when he hear a noise, seeing the snom in the distance. He never understood the fascination with the creature and for him, had no interest so he ignored the creature and turned his attention back to Rurik. The spotted mightyena snorted, turning away from Maverick and started to pace back and forth in front of his trainer. Rurik was loyal to the bone, he would never go against Maverick as Maverick raised the young pup sense he hatched. “Look Rurik,” he man mumbled, shrugging his shoulders, “We can work with him together. I’ll either keep him in his ball or in his own exhibit. He won’t hurt anyone. Willow will be safe.” At the mention of the female mightyena who he was trying to get to be his mate, gaze locked onto Maverick’s again in clear dismay. The human smile. “Promise.” Rurik grumbled, returning to his pacing back and forth deep in thought.
