Gavin stiffens as the Bouffalant paws at the ground, but though he leaps clear of its charge it turns out there is no need. Katherine's Mimikyu bats the angry Pokemon away as if it were a mere insect, and Gavin's pounding heartbeat slows.

"You know, this just backs up my claim."

Thankfully, the next Pokemon he's confronted with is far less threatening. Wigglytuff's singing, akin to a lullaby, is enough to make him yawn and remind him of how little sleep he's been getting as of late. He rubs at his eyes, scowling at the brain fog.

Porygon's signal beam dispatches it handily; flashing light and colour zeros in on the performing fairy and Gavin nudges its unconscious form with his boot to check for vitals before tossing a pokeball.

The next pair of pokemon happens to be friendlier. The singing of the Wigglytuff, although too narcotic in her opinion, is still better than a charging bull. Thankfully, Gavin’s Porygon ensures that both Rockets stay awake and alert and brings the little performer down.

The Audino, a spectator until this very moment, attempts to motivate the other normal-type by clapping its hands, a desperate AFTER YOU put into motion.

Unfortunately, it is too late for both of them.

Mimikyu spares it only a glance before its mighty claw is brought down, crashing from above. And before the spectator can flee, a capsule is tossed to capture it.

“These two weren’t too bad though, were they?”

His tone caught between tension and ire, Gavin has more forewarning this time and manages to get out of the way of the charging Pokemon. It would seem the previous one brought friends.

Porygon-Z was a mistake from a computing point of view, its programming erratic, but the colorful tri-attack it fires off lands true and manages to burn the wild buffalo. It screams in pain as its thick afro of fur catches alight, and Gavin takes advantage of its distracted state to attempt capture.

"Perhaps you're right," he drawls as the ball shakes. "It's going to be a long day."

As before, Mimikyu can’t help but act like a true COPYCAT, mimicking the actions of the Underboss’s Porygon by firing its own colorful tri-attack. Its target is a different normal-type, much smaller in size, but one that’ll sate his trainer’s need for fodder.

Katherine pays no mind to the unnecessary amount of violence and merely tosses a Pokeball before glancing back at Gavin.

“Who knows when we’ll be finished here? You better have cleared your schedule.”

Though there's humour in the dryness of his tone, he's not lying. His schedule was only clear so long as Rocket did not call upon him for some task or another, and he'd drop this expedition in a heartbeat if they did. He had to.

"Still, it's as clear as it can be."

An Amoonguss' solar beam lands a critical strike upon his unassuming Porygon, and Gavin swaps it out for his temperamental Sandslash. The shadow Pokemon appears in a flurry of hail that strengths itself into a howling blizzard to consume its foe.

It's still snarling long after that foe faints. Gavin taps it with a ball.

The Spinda, after witnessing the defeat of the Amoonguss, begins to riot and cause an UPROAR in result. It’s upset and angry - as it naturally should be - for having a friend taken away.

Fortunately, Mimikyu is unaffected by the normal attack and merely blinks in response.

Once, twice, and by the third time it blinks - it COPYCATS the Sandslash’s BLIZZARD, intent on delivering the grieving pokemon the same fate that its friend had to suffer.

A Pokeball is tossed afterward, and Katherine can’t help but notice her breath now, as if she was standing in some haunted house.

“This is your famous Sandslash, isn’t it?”
