It would have seem that his hunt for this mysterious canine would have to wait.

Azula was the first to notice, her nostrils flared when the scent crossed her nose. Her gaze fell on the wild creature, spotting it a few feet away. She let out a low grumble, her attention fixed on the creature. Warm colored orbs shifted to his beast, brow s scrunched and turned to see what she was upset about. To his disbelief, he spotted something familiar several feet away. Yet, it had an odd color at the same time. He squinted in an attempt to see better, hand rose to signal for his canine to wait. Azula did so, but not without letting out a few more growls of disconcert. Upon closer investigation, the trainer could no believe what he had found.

Maverick normally wasn’t the type of man that favored the ‘shiny’ pokemon. It really didn’t make a difference to him. In fact, most ‘shiny’ pokemon were rather ugly in coloration compared to their natural standards of colors. This included the wild torkoal who passively, and very slowly, moved carelessly through the route. But despite the lack of preference of the color, shiny or oddly colored pokemon were quite rare to come across. And even rarer, in the wild. He had to have it.

Reaching into his arsenal of creature, the man plucked a ball from his pocket. The canine shifted her weight, ready to take care of the creature for her master. Her human shook his head no silently, pressing the bottom to summon a different creature. The ball burst open, revealing the creature of choice. The oddly colored greninja appeared, ruby orbs fell upon his trainer for orders. His hell hound let out a mixture of a whine and snort. “I don’t want to lose this one,” he growled in a slow tone to his canine, giving her a dark glare before turning his attention back to his duel water type, “So don’t let it get away. Try to knock it out in one hit.” Cragen nodded firmly, understanding his orders and springing into action.

And spring, he did.

Cragen was swift, darting towards the creature and confronting it without a moment to lose. He closed his eyes for a moment, summoning the normal energy to make copies of himself in a blink of an eye. The wild pokemon took a step back, both takin off guard and unsure what to do. Cragen surround the creature with his copies, all pair of eyes on it. But the water and dark type didn’t give the wild creature time to react to him or his copies, summoning the power of water to his gut and soon burst out of his mouth and his copies in a hydro pump. Of course, only one was real as the water blasted the creature from the side. The blast send the creature off its feet, rolling onto its back. It kicked its legs, trying to roll over back on its feet but with no prevail. And sooner than the torkoal expected, the water put out his flame and it fainted. The oddly colored pokemon withdraw itself into its shell.

With the creature out, Maverick was quick to toss an empty ball at it. The ball smacked its underbelly, opening up and sucking the creature in. “Nice work,” the man praised his creature, giving him a pleased nod as he recalled the ninja back to his own ball, “That should be enough.” The gym leader shoved the ball back in his pocket, warm gaze fell upon the ball that began to wiggle. Azula’s head lowered, a low growl rumbled in her chest as she gave the ball a dark glare. If the creature dared to escape, it would have to deal with Azula’s fury. “I think we should give up on the hunt today Azula,” he told his canine as they waited for the confirm capture, “I think the tracks are blown away now. We will have to check for that canine another day.”
