The lunch was almost over, but not before Leo could eat first!

[break][break] Reaching into his backpack, he pulled out another tupperware container, this time one containing a chorizo burrito that his mother had made for him that morning. He pried the plastic open before grabbing said burrito and taking a bite out of it. It was tasty — but kind of cold, but that was to be expected. How long had he been in the safari zone?

[break][break] Leo grabbed a bag of chips and a Monster that he had stored away, when he paused. There were Tauros in the distance, their curled tails swiveling rapidly in the distance. The sight of them was peaceful and yet nostalgic all at once, reminded of the afternoons that he spent with caroline foster teaching him how to tip them over.

[break][break] He looked up at Peanut who had come over his way, muzzle pressed against his cheek. He laughed. "What, you hungry now too?" He offered her another burrito, almost identical to his own, though it was filled with corn, pokeberries and rice instead of meat. "Mom packed one for you too."

The Zebstrika plunked the burrito from his grasp and then wandered off with it, and Leo laughed as she all but gobbled it down. It was true — there was nothing better than his mama's food.

[break][break] That done, Leo looked around. His Togedemaru, done with his meal, had pushed his way into his backpack and curled up for a nap. Rue had fluttered to his shoulder, picking at his strands of hair absently, for nothing more than to find something to interest herself with. Crumbles and Yams, however... where were they?

[break][break] There! Except...

[break][break] "Hey guys!" he said, abruptly standing. "I don't think - "

[break][break] Yup.

[break][break] A wandering Drampa floated on the horizon, but when Yams wandered too close, the pokemon gave a predatory air-snap. Though it was pretty harmless, the Yamper still let out a yelp of surprise and then immediately sprinted around the field, jumping into Leo's arms. The boy patted the pokemon between the ears, laughing lightly. "That's what you get," he said, patting him down. "You gotta watch where you're goin'."

[break][break] He looked up, and the Drampa had already wandered off. Huh. Guess all pokemon really weren't the same!

After Yams calmed down, Leo gathered the rest of their things and packed them away. Pushing his hands to his knees, he stood up and latched the backpack back onto Peanut's side. When she leaned down, he reached over and patted her in the ears, and laughed as she pushed his face affectionately into his. He smiled big, before turning around and returning the rest of the pokemon to their pokeballs.

[break][break] Rue, of course, still stood on his shoulder where she always was, dipping back into his hoodie and then fluttering back up to his front.

[break][break] A laugh bubbled to his lips. "You're tickling me!" he said, and she just chirped back at him.

[break][break] Jumping off the rock outcrop, Leo began their tread through the safari zone again. Now that he was full, he had plenty of energy! As the plains broke away, and the trees returned, he looked curiously around. There were quite a few pokemon in the treetops, but the ones that his eyes were drawn to were two Chimchar grooming. They looked adorable, but he didn't want to disturb them, so he kept on his way.

"It's kind of nice, isn't it?" Leo mentioned, patting his pokemon on the side as they walked through the trail. Though it was still winter, there was something nice about looking at all the trees lined up on the path. It made Leo think about what the safari zone might look like in spring or summer, when the flowers would bloom again.

[break][break] There was a quiet that settled as Leo and Peanut took their hike along the path. It was getting to be pretty late, or at the very least, Leo was beginning to feel like he needed a nap. Stretching his arms over his head, he let out a yawn.

[break][break] As he did so, however, he spotted too apparations in the distance. At first, he was excited about the prospect of looking at new pokemon — however, upon closer look, he realized it was a few Duskull floating in the distance. He shuddered. Not that he was superstituious or anything... definitely not... but he still remembered the folktale his mother told him about Duskkull and Dusknoir when he was a kid, warning him not to go into the forest...

[break][break] He coughed. "C'mon, girl," he said, pulling slightly on Peanut's mane and gearing them towards a different part of the path, where he was sure no ghost pokemon would be.

There were no ghost pokemon, but there were surprises!

[break][break] He and Peanut had been just walking along a dirt path, observing the way that the snow glistened atop the bare branches of the surrounding trees, where there was a shadow that dropped from the sky and down his shirt! With a yelp of surprise, Leo fell off of his mount and onto the ground below. Luckily, a pile of snow cushioned his fall — some.

[break][break] His eyes were wide with surprise, and a bit of fear. What the hell?

[break][break] But the shadow turned out not to be a ghost pokemon but a Dedenne! But this one seemed like a different color than the one he'd caught earlier, and in it's tiny teeth grasped the half-eaten Poptart that Leo had hidden in his sweatshirt. It popped up right in front of Leo, its tiny ears twitching and looking adorable as heck, before disappearing once again. "Oh no you don't!" Leo said, reaching into his sweatshirt and prying the pokemon out.

[break][break] He had eaten all of his treat! Aw, he was saving that for later!

[break][break] With a huff, Leo pressed an empty pokeball to the tiny rodent. He was going to give him a stern talking to later, for sure!
