Fingers flicked gently over strings, light tones rising through the air as the sound of human activity filled the streets.

A lively atmosphere despite recent events. The innovative brilliance to turn a recent catastrophe into a selling point.

Whoever was in charge of the city's marketing, image and event planning, the youth had to give them props. They seemed to know what they were doing, perhaps too well.

A smile adorned the youth's lips as he gazed out onto the flooded sections of the city, were boats that echoed those seen in the Water City of Alto Mare were to be found, bright, hand-made lanterns adorning their prows as rowers carried visitors and tourists to and fro over the waters.

Beautiful. Inspiring even. A sight worthy of a performance.

His digits fleeted over the Mandolin's strings deftly, his smile growing as a sound very akin to a fiddle came off from the performer sitting next to him.

Little Merodin the Kricketune, whose bladed arms deftly moved to and fro over his stomach, generating a beautiful sound, so close and familiar to those of the violin the untrained ear might have mistaken it for the real thing.

As a coin fell inside the straw hat he had dropped at the floor, the youth's smile grew further. Who knew street performance could be this rewarding?

'Enjoy your day off' they'd said- no, insisted. They'd practically stripped him of his uniform and badge in order to just get him out of the office and out of work-mode. He'd relented only because they'd been so damn persistent and encouraging. [break][break]

As it turns out, the evening wasn't as much of a drag as he worried it'd be. The atmosphere was calming and genuinely uplifting. Despite the tragedy, the war, the fear, he could sense none of that in the streets of Lilycove. The festival was in full swing and all he could see were the smiling, happy faces of civilians who didn't have any worries.[break][break]

The weight on his right shoulder shifts and feathers fluff up. Corbin is suddenly reminded of the being whose talons have been digging into his shoulder the entire night. When he glances over to the puffed up Starly, he's met with a look of disgust. The little bird appears to be shivering, and nips at Corb's finger when he wiggles it in front of him.[break][break]

"Getting a few too many cool breezes, there, Sarge? Alright, alright, we'll keep it moving."[break][break]

But as he turns to leave, a ballad of pretty music begins. There are two performers tonight, taking advantage of the beautiful night, the pretty lights and the water lapping at the docks. He smirks, lingering, much to Sarge's dismay. The little bird buries himself in closer to the man's neck, doubling in size due to his puffed up feathers.[break][break]

"Not bad, kid. Who taught you how to play like that?"[break][break]

From his wallet, he tosses in a fifty-dollar bill.[break][break]

The things he sometimes did for his pokemon. Fighting down a sight at the thoughts Noelani instead smiled charmingly at the blonde woman he had been talking with for the past few minutes. All he got in response was a giggle and vague promises as she left. Who knew that flirting with girls while dresses in a full Hula girl outfit was hard.

He was around Lilycove and when Kala had seen a poster up for performance the Bellossom had insisted they joined it. Noelani hadn’t been able to resists the demand of his starter and had joined the event dressing up to look like a hula girl and then doing a dance routine alongside Kala. They had been a hit both because of the way they looked and his Bellossom doing well and also using sweet scent as she danced.

The brief event was over and while he could have changed Noelani took the glances he was getting and the odd comment he had heard that he would never be able to pick someone up looking like that at heart. It’s why he found himself roaming the festival in the outfit.

As he walked Noelani noticed at familiar face and seeing no one else around that caught his eye alongside memories of their last encounter he decided to approach the preforming youth. He arrived just in time to seem some guy throw fifty bucks making him whistle and announcing his presence.

Fishing out some change the alolan threw it in the hat “Well not as generous but don’t have a lot on me currently.” Pausing to gesture at himself Noelani quickly continued “Yo, fancy meeting you here.”

A particularly sharp note came as 50 bucks were thrown onto the hat, Doug's eyes visibly popping out of their sockets at the sight before he turned his gaze up at the very kind man.

"Much obliged, m'good feller. My grandpa used to be part of a four-man group." He said, fingers still fleeting over the mandolin. "They all taught me quite a bit."

He only had a mandolin on hand at 'home' though, since that was his grandpa's instrument. He wondered if any of the other 3 old men had managed to escape with their families as well...

He shook his head.

"Anyway, got any requests? Heck, for that much cash, I'll serenade ya, even!" He said with a laugh, stringing several cords together at that, before some pocket change thrown into his hat caught his attention.

And then a familiar face fully seized it.

"Noelani!" Said Doug, strumming three cords cheerfully, winking at the man. "Thanks man! Don't sweat it, any and all are appreciated."

He looked between the two men, before turning to Merodin, grinning.

"Look sharp, Mero! We gotta captive audience now!" He said, his kricketune responding with a delighted croon that slowly turned to a melodic tone.

"He's happy to meet'cha all."

Someone else shows up in his peripheral at the same time the boy with the mandalin tweaks his strings at the sight of the bill. Corbin appears somewhat flustered by the turnaround, and both surprised and not surprised at al that the kid's instrumental talents have brought in more smiling faces. [break][break]

Change is tossed into the bucket by a man who seems familiar with the boy, and Corbin glances between him and the newcomer subtly.[break][break]

"That's quite alright, kid. Just looking out for you, that's all."[break][break]

Because as much as he'd like to believe that youngsters could make it out on their own with Pokemon at their side, he'd seen his fair share of mishaps and misfortune. Roughing it out on the road wasn't easy. He'd sleep a lot easier, honestly, if he knew that kids couldn't leave home until they were 18. [break][break]

The kid introduces his Kricketune to the crew, and Corbin glances over his shoulder as more and more people bustle in. It's only then that Corbin fully looks at the face in the crowd that had been called out by name - and he does a double-take at the man's outfit. He was dressed to match his Bellossom, it seemed.[break][break]

"Why don't you two team up, dancer and musician?"[break][break]

Rubbing his chin in thought Noelani considered the suggestion the other man had given. He’d rather rest and enjoy the festival but well he could probably do another performance and the way Kala’s eyes had gained a gleam in them meant the Bellossom was probably going to pester him about that now.

Eyes moving towards Doug he asked “What do you think? We could probably mesh something up real quick.”

The ball was in the kid’s court if they were going to try something but there was another thing that popped up in Noelani’s head. Giving a hum the alolan turned back towards Corbin and quickly said “If we are going to do this though two dancers is always better for such shows. I have an extra Hula outfit so how about you change into it and join us if we do end up doing a join endeavor.”

He was not going down alone and If Noelani had to prance around in the outfit so will the other man if he had any say in it. If Corbin refused well it would simply mean that the alolan would have to resort to guilt tripping. He had good feeling that might working with convincing the other man.

The music slowly died down as the two men spoke, the youth looking between them while strumming lazily while Merodin took a rest from performing.

Song and dance, eh? Sounded nice, but one or the other would need to change up their show. Bluegrass wasn't exactly intended for Hula, and viceversa.

"Sure thing, fellas! But... I ain't super familiar with hula music." He said, interrupting the two men, before tilting a brow at both. "Either o'ya good at shuffle cloggin'?"

He didn't need to hear the answer. He doubted either of these men had swung so far into the sticks as to even know what clogging was.

"Got any hula music for me to ref?" He said, crossing his arms over the mandolin, leaning back. Much as he would appreciate a man as... good looking as the green haired guy in hula gear, he wasn't about to bully a guy who had gifted him 50 dollars into anything.

And all of a sudden, before he knew it, he was being encouraged to join the two of them - four, if you included their Pokemon - to put on a hula outfit and dance. Corbin's face contorts into a look of shock and horror, a brief image of himself dressed down in something like that throwing him for a loop.[break][break]

"Uhhmm.. I really don't think that's a good idea. I'm not much of a dancer."[break][break]

But the guy presently wearing the hula garb seemed intent on having him join in as a dynamic duo, and it brought a flush to his cheeks. He hated letting people down.[break][break]

"Seriously? Me, in a hula outfit?"[break][break]

He runs a hand through his hair, awkward. As a result, he doesn't get to answering the kids question surrounding hula music.[break][break]

Noelani smelled weakness. Just looking at the green haired man he knew he would be able to convince him no problem. The alolan had to resist the predatory smile that wanted to form on his face as he spoke “You’ll do fine I’m sure. Besides dancing skills aren’t as important as the presentation and putting on a show is.”

Noelani then invaded Corbin’s personal space and threw an arm over his shoulder “Having partner dressed the same makes it a routine instead of just one odd man dancing along a tune. Besides I’m sure the kid would apricate the back up.” The last part was semi whispered low enough that only the green man would hear it. Was it mean of the alolan to use that angle? Maybe but he would not suffer alone.

Still there were the questions of Doug to addresses so that’s why Noelani shifted his attention and turned to look the younger trainer “Not handily but I can probably dig something out with a good connection. Personally, I think though the tune you were playing earlier could work just as well or something similar enough as it. It will be improvised dance though don’t have the gear to pull off proper clogging.”

Yeah, Noelani had dived deep down into the hole of performance dancing due his starter to know what it meant. No time to be embarrassed though instead he should embrace it and let the flow do its work.

Doug had little to nothing in the ways of shame, so if his companions didn't mind making a spectacle of themselves for all the wrong reasons, then he was honky-dory.

"Well, if yer sure!" He said cheerfully, strumming thrice the many chords before tipping back his seat to lean his back against the wall, grinning at his fellow performer. "Ya heard 'im, Mero! Ready for an encore?"

The Kricketune released a delighted, shrill croon, crossing both of his bladed arms across his stomach as if they were bows on the bridge of a fiddle.

"Heck yeah, we're ready fo'dis!" He said as he began tapping his foot, fingers strumming gently as he turned his gaze to the tallest amongst them, the man of the fifty bucks. "Ready then? Go get changed so we can get started!"

At this point the youth just assumed everyone was on board with this.

"What's yer name anyway, Mister? Kinda weird to perform with a stranger. I'm Doug, this is Mero." He said, pausing for a second before winking. "For the record, we ain't regular street performers. We're just havin' fun."

Wouldn't want these people to think he was completely homeless.

His thought is interrupted by an arm over his shoulder, and Corbin huffs at the sudden physical closeness and the impact of two bodies knocking against each other, pulling them closer.[break][break]

"Trust me man, I won't look good in a hula skirt."[break][break]

It was super feminine, wasn't it? Did men often wear hula skirts? He'd never even considered it, but now here he was inching his way closer to peer pressure.[break][break]

But he's being guilted into it, and his gaze shifts to the kid who would definitely appreciate it. In fact, the kid is already on board with it and asking for his name. Corbin opens his mouth to answer, suddenly embarrassed or nervous and fumbling for words.[break][break]

"Sure, alright-- name's Quinn."[break][break]

And then he shuffles off to get changed, ducking into a nearby washroom stall to strip down and adjust his borrowed hula skirt.[break][break]

Gullible was all Noelani could think as he practically bullied the stranger to dress up in a hula girl outfit. That and slight worry for the man if that’s how easily he got peer pressured into things. There was no room for guilt though after all the alolan had gotten someone else to join him in the mess. That’s why he had to resist the urge to fist pump and instead settled for a pleased “Great.”

Seeing as Doug had agreed and was preparing as well already Noelani used the time while the man went to change to plot with Kala. Crouching in front of the Bellossom he had quick conversation giving her quick bullet points knowing she would do the rest of the work. They had a trick where he watched her during performances and certain twirls and moves corresponded to what he should correct and pull off after making a base. Demanding thing to do but they actually had practice and he was able to do it almost naturally by now. He would still give a bare outline to Quinn so he could adjust but that would probably be it.

To caught up in his planning, he had kind of forgotten to give his name but that could be fixed later and Dough did already know him so wasn’t too huge of a problem. "Pleasure, Quinn!" He said before the man left to get changed. In the meanwhile, the youth strummed his instrument and practiced along with his Krikecktune, the two harmonizing together as they waited.

A short moment later, he looked up as Noelani spoke to him, nodding along while plucking at the strings.

"Might as well- not gonna be much of a collaboration if we screw it up." He said, laying his mandolin across his lap and stretching his arms above his head with a grunt before grinning wide. "Ya ready yet, Quinn?! We doin' a trial run!"

He looked over to Merodin, nodding as he picked back up his Mandolin.

His first few notes were soon joined in by the sound of a fiddle's strings.

Corbin exits the washroom stage left, shirtless and wrapped in a hula skirt. He looks both ridiculous and like absolute eye-candy all at the same time, and he finds himself running his hand through his hair. [break][break]

The two other boys beckon for him to join them for a trial-run and he approaches quickly.[break][break]

"Hey, sorry, yeah, I'm here and ready. The skirt was a little uhh.. tight, but it will do."[break][break]

His bare chest displays a bullet-wound in his right shoulder, long since healed. The officer adjusts the skirt briefly on his hips before exhaling. There is a lazy smile pressed to his lips as he shuffles into position and learns the song and dance. [break][break]
