“I’d believe you.” He responds dryly at the invalid comment, matter of fact, as he crunches nonchalantly through a chip. A lazy grin gives away the jest. [break][break]

It’s too difficult to withhold a chuckle for long though, especially when Doug throws out an attempt at self-impersonation. Angelo laughs, too sleepy to hold it back or tired enough for it to seem even more funnier than it should be; there may have been a slight watering of eyes, before its sucked back up on a yawn.[break][break]

The weary man running on fumes pushes himself to his feet to approach the teenager, who’s waving his arms stiff and straight up in the air, in a plea for help. [break][break]

“Anyone told you that you look like an overturned Squirtle, like that?” [break][break]

He’s tempted to leave him there but mercy is shining on the bug catcher this morning.[break][break]

Angelo has to grip Doug’s arms, just past his elbows, to haul the kid off his back and onto the couch proper. Afterwards the courier slumps back on the opposite end of the couch, long legs stretched out and ass nearly off the edge of the cushion from his extreme recline. [break][break]

“Where were we?” He asks, in between a loud yawn that's just the slightest exaggerated on purpose. “Something about you two handicapping a police officer or something?”

"Ya just did, ya git." He replied dryly as Angelo yanked him back upright, biting down a pained grunt.

The bulk of the damage was in his hands, and the rest of his burns weren't nearly as severe, but they were still there, being annoying as hell.

At least Angelo's earlier, hearty laughter had helped out with his mood.

"Indeed, we broke the Officer's kneecaps and then threw him in the back of the police car." Doug said, looking like he wanted to rub his chin sagely. "Then we drove through the hood while blastin' Fuck the Police over the sirens."

...

"No, of course not, ya daft git!" Doug said, blowing a raspberry at his brother.

"Police didn't believe I was handicapped, but the empress magically woke up then and there and convinced the guy we were both handicapped." Doug said, laughing at the memory... it didn't last long, the youth quickly sobering up. "Well... she wasn't lying."

He didn't really know what afflicted chryssa glasgow, other than maybe knee arthritis...

He shook his head a moment later, biting the inside of his cheek; if she hadn't shared, she didn't want him to know, and he wasn't one to pry.

"... Anyway. The cop drove us to my school."

And once there...

Chryssa caused a miracle.

A quiet scoff exits his throat and a hand is playfully swatted towards the back of Doug’s head, casually light in a mock reprimand. “Don’t remember changing my name to ‘git’, Johnathon.” [break][break]

Angelo’s lips curl, his arm draping over the back of the couch in easy familiarity as he peers out of the corner of his gaze as Doug continues on with the story. There’s a moment where the teenager’s laughter dries up a little too suddenly, shaking off ghosts or troubles before launching back into his tale. [break][break]

“Preferred the version where you broke the cop’s kneecaps and stole his car like remorseless savages,” he admits, tone purposefully light to counter the shadow that had temporarily flittered over the bug enthusiast’s eyes. “But hey, free ride, right? Score.”[break][break]

Reclining, he realises as his eyes start to turn heavy, was probably a mistake…

"Don'cha ever call me Jonathan again." Doug said sharply, eyes narrowed to slits. Before his lip quirked with a snort. "It's really just John. Pops got lazy halfway through writin' my birth certificate."

A moment of depression later, the youth leaned back on his seat.

"'Course a Capital lame-O thinks a free rid to school is cool." He said with a pout, sticking his tongue out at Angelo. "Well news flash, it sucked! Kinda. Actually, it was pretty fun- but not because of school!"

He leaned back, grinning wide.

"Because of Chrys." He said with a deep, forced admiration in tone. "The manliest man to ever walk 'em borin' ass halls."

"One (mis)step, and an entire cafeteria was thrown into chaos." He remembered the great food war of 2020. Many a spotless school records had been lost in the pomodoroful struggle.

"Oh, and I got expelled. Technically, Chris and I both got spelled- but uh... let's just say Chris didn't care much."

“Ok, Johnathan.”[break][break]

A yawn is muffled against knuckles as the story continues, Angelo doing his best to keep his drifting mind hooked on his friend. After everything the kid had been through today, he didn’t want to be the first one to drop off, to leave him with alone with his thoughts… [break][break]

“Surprised you two didn’t hijack the police car, too.” He drawls, smiling as if the thought of them doing such a feat would bring him a slither of mischievous pride. “Chrys is the manliest man to step foot in your school. Including you.” [break][break]

Blue eyes flutter. [break][break]

"Oh, and I got expelled. Technically, Chris and I both got spelled- but uh... let's just say Chris didn't care much."[break][break]

“Chrys… Expelled…? Who’da thoug-...”[break][break]

This time, rather than a laugh, Doug’s antidote was followed up by a detached attempt at sarcasm before it trails off into a soft, breathy snore.[break][break]

The sleeping beauty, with his mouth hanging gracelessly open, had lost his battle with fatigue even with all his worries clinging to his mind. His head flops against the teenager’s shoulder.[break][break]

Angelo might very well leave a little bit of drool on Doug’s shirt, if he didn’t react fast enough… [break][break]

At least Doug wouldn’t technically be left alone with bad thoughts when he had his older brother, slumped against him with an arm draped over the back of the couch, near cuddling him.
