Born in Ferrum, Cosmo never thought he'd end up where he is. As a young child, his dream was to become a champion of Ferrum's pokemon battles, and be at the top of the Ferrum League. As an adolescent, he attempted to make his dream come true, with his lone Duskull as his partner, a synergy stone, and the eagerness that youth provides.
[break][break]During these years he showed some skill in battle, making it through Green League without issue, but eventually found himself stuck in Blue League. The competition was much tougher at this stage, and while his ghost-type had its fair share of immunities to certain common attacks, his Duskull just wasn't a match for more developed pokemon, or so it seemed.
[break][break]As a matter of fact, the Blue League was rife with its own issues. Cheating in many various forms was rampant, from poisoning the opponent before the match, to ensuring forfeits by threatening the opponent's life. There were even the occasional professionals who refused to advance to Red League just so they could beat up the rookies and inflict serious wounds for their pleasure. One such man, known only as Smoke, would be Cosmo's last opponent. The cruelty and savagery displayed by both this man and his Bisharp would leave Cosmo's Duskull partner in the hospital, and Cosmo's enthusiasm in shambles.
[break][break]Cosmo retired from the league shortly after the incident. Cosmo was lost. With his friend critically injured, him becoming disillusioned with his dream, he questioned what the purpose of life even was. Thoughts about why would this happen, who would allow this, and how the league allowed this man to continue clouded his thoughts daily.
[break][break]It was then that the Church of Arceus came into his life, offering to pray daily and nightly for his Duskull's existence. Cosmo's initial reaction was that this was a useless and hollow gesture, but eventually relented, and prayed with the members of the clergy. And according to Cosmo, a miracle happened; His pokemon partner pulled through.
[break][break]Since that moment, Cosmo has dedicated his life to the Church of Arceus, and the study of life and its meaning, both human and pokemon. He studied hard at the Church's High Temple, learned much and became ordained as a Priest of Arceus, and later a Bishop. He's traveled from region to region spreading the good word, and now finds himself in Hoenn at the request of the Church, due to an arson at the local chapel.
