it was safer then, to make mistakes. such as accidentally leaving your apartment’s door unlocked overnight upon arriving home after a long shift. those were missed, poorly enjoyed times to him. kane still had to make a name for himself then, income would only cash in if he had been broken to pieces at the end of the day, worrisome to have let his daughter, june, with his mother for way too long. his promise to his dying sister was being kept just barely since most of his time was spent trying to spend as little as possible and working as many bartender hours as his human twenty year old body could.[break][break]
four years later, having saved enough money, he sought out another region, knowing, just by glancing at it, that kanto was crumbling. there were not many job offers around and he looked. he looked but he could never find something permanent, stable enough to care for june’s future. he had never taken a pokemon in before that day, prior to getting his kid into the moving truck, when he saw it traipsing the pavement, leaving speckles of blood behind and being followed by calls of hurried angry men. grabbing it and getting it to the truck was no hard task, however, when the purple colored one realized it was being carried by a stranger, kane could only hope june’s voice would calm it as he winced and did his best to drive towards a pokemon center holding onto the angry nidoran for dear life. it turned out to have the sharpest of claws, ‘very understandable defense mechanism’, kane would say later on while a nurse treated his wounds.[break][break]
debatable to say he’s a kind soul through and through, he doesn’t even have an approachable face and doesn’t bother much regarding the welfare of others unless it’s of his own family and any pokemon under his care. back when he didn’t have one, he responded to no living soul, he had no recollections of what discipline could be. so him deciding to joining the league was out of pure devotion to his daughter. everything the organization believed in lined with his desire to make june’s life less painful and a lot more prosperous. in almost all transparency, he looks after a pokemon shelter settled on the near end of mauville city. and yes, he does look down on people who buy pokemon rather than just adopting one.
