The Ledian's four arms crossed over his chest as the Hyper voice sent him hurtling back further into the air, his eyes narrowing behind his guard as his opponent escaped into the water.

"Clever clever!" Doug praised Melody Miro as he watched the pokemon disappear within the water's depths, where Ledian couldn't give chase. Water and Open air- each had their advantages, though only one offered cover, unfortunately. "We'll have to get clever as well! Asura, let's put 'er on ice!"

Asura roared (_adorably) as he swung all four of his arms to his sides, reeling them back before darting towards the water, neon blue glow shining over his iron fists as he swung wildly at the water surface, wings carrying him forward.

Frozen Ice began to spread over the water as the Ledian soared over the surface, swinging ice punchs in a blur.

"Wanna play some somewhack a mole, Ms. Melody?" The youth asked with a cheshire grin, eye glinting underneath his hat's shade.

-Gets hit by Hyper Voice, sent hurtling back.
-Comes down swinging wild with Comet Punch + Ice punch, covering a large portion of the water in a thick sheet of ice!

"I'm not particularly fond of said game." she replied, Melody stayed calm as the ice began to cover the majority of the arena. Was he trying to lock Lapras out of the arena? That's pretty smart, however she had a good idea to prevent that from happening. She smirked as she called out to her Lapras "Lapras! Don't let them block you out of the arena!"

she commanded, john Douglas was pretty smart she had to give it to him despite his age he was well versed in the art of battle. Time to push him more! "Lapras drill run!" she ordered as the ice began to crack in one spot and eventually broke through and Lapras landed on the ice with a spin.

Staying in the same spot Lapras opened it's mouth in anticipation for it's next order which followed suit.  "Hit them with a chilling note! Freeze dry!" she ordered as blue energy crackled around lapras's horn and fired a prism colored beam of ice energy at the adorable bug Pokémon. She did however respect his tactic so far as he now limited Lapras's ability to freely enter and leave the water.

TLDR:

Lapras breaks through the ice using drill horn to carve out a hole in the ice.

She then fired a freeze dry at the Ledian.

"Ah darn! Should've told me 'fore settin' the stage!" Doug said with a grin, his gaze moving over the battlefield as Melody Miro's order rang. As the ice cracked, his arm snapped towards the air, fist held skyward dramatically. "Gonna have to play just this once! Whack the mole, Asura!"

The Ledian burst into flight towards the cracking ice, fists at the ready at its sides as the Lapras broke through the ice sheet with a spinning flourish, ready as the Gym Leader's next command came.

"Hit the deck!" Doug ordered as a prismatic beam shot out of the Lapras' Horn, sailing through the air towards the Ledian.

The bugs wings flapped once sharply before folding against its body, breaking into a dive towards the Lapras as the beam skirting over its carapace, leaving frost over its anteenee and back.

He spun before landing on the ice, feet slamming over the ice floors and sliding towards the Lapras with fists cocked back-

"ORA!" Doug shouted, and that was really all the Ledian needed to hear.

The bug's four fists launched like bullets at the Lapras, swinging wildly in the blink of an eye, 4 iron fists delivered at mach speed with the sound of the shattered sound barrier booming behind every swing!

The battle was well underway as the two gym leaders were neck and neck in the battle. The freeze dry while seemingly did miss, managed to f to cause some frost to grow on her opponent's body. Good! limit it's mobility and Lapras would have the advantage Ledian however was still super quick on it's feet, shit shit shit! Melody watched as her poor lapras got beat up and with punch by punch watch larpras's energy leave slowly "Lapras!" she shouted as lapras already knew meody's command before she even finished "Thunder bolt! Quickly! We got to get it off of you!" as the thunderbolt was already covering it's body and firing at the target right in front of it.

Hopefully the thunderbolt was enough to push ledian off as melody decided the water was safer than freely getting hit "Drill run into the water again and dive!" as Lapras's body span again and cut a hole clean into the ice, Lapras was gone again lurking underneath the water. Their bonds were in full swing, melody was so proud of her lapras for already predicting the thunderbolt ahead of time. This battle was really grooving!

TLDR:


Lapras gets hit by the mach punch and was helpless to stop some of the punches.

lapras uses thunderbolt while getting whailed on, 1-10 needed for thunderbolt's paralysis.

Uses drill run on the ice again to hide in the water.

"Ah, bugger!" Said Doug as the the thunderbolt slammed onto the wailing Ledian, the little bug getting repelled backwards as if he had been swatted with an invisible flyswatter. "Don't let it get away! Mach Punch!"

The Speed of Mach punch would be enough to catch it before it could drill its way down! Just needed to-

The Ledian's body slid over the ice, teeth grit tightly as it attempted to sprang back up immediately, brow furrowed furiously- but as it leapt to its feet, it found itself falling to its knees, body twitching erratically.

"Ah, BUGGER!" Said Doug as he pulled down tightly onto his straw hat. Paralysis? Really? Now?! What rotten luck! "Nevermind then! Let it run! Focus on yer breathing!"

The Ledian grunted as it forced itself onto its feet, random spasms rocking his frame as he squeezed and unsqueezed his fists, breathing in and out slowly.

Doug nodded, heightening his voice pitch and exagerating an eastern Kantonian accent as he spoke and gestured 'elegantly', acting as if he possessed some nonexistent beard.

"That's right. In and out, in and out... Remember yer training!" He said.

Oh fuck, the thunderbolt actually paralyzed the ledian? It was a rare chance but it was just the break that Melody needed to try and fight back! It was going to Mach punch Lapras but the electricity coursing through Ledian's body was causing it to seize up and not be able to attack. She managed to escape back into the water, Melody had the upper hand in the water, she only couldn't use thunderbolt in the water cause it might harm Lapras herself since she's encased in it. [break][break]

She didn't have anything to recover Lapras's health either so she was starting to run out of options. However this cover was exactly what she needed. "Lapras! Sparkling aria the ice! Break it up and give us more room!" she shouted as she took the opportunity to change the terrain back in her favor. The ice began to rumble and crack in several locations as Lapras fired it in a wide barrage to make the icy field turn into icy islands. She needed time to recover as it took some effort to break it.

TLDR: Lapras successfully dives into the water thanks to the paralysis on ledian and notes her inability to use thunderbolt on the water due to risking shocking itself

Uses sparkling aria underneath the ice to break it up into several ice islands and took her time to try and recover her stamina as it had taken a lot of energy

Water surges through the ice sheet, shattering and splintering its surface and scattering it over the massive pool, creating small islands of frost.

The Ledian's body twitches and spasms, wings fluttering erratically, electricity crackling over the surface of its body. The Paralysis seems to have set in firmly!

Or had it?

"Feel it course through you." Doug said sagely, his chest filling up with air slowly while his hands rose, then deflating just as slowly as his hand came down. "Be water. Or something!"

Was that something noah faber would say?

The roosted bug groaned, rolling its eyes. Real clever, smart ass trainer!

The Ledian's body twitched visibly with its effort, before its eyes snapped wide. As if suddenly injected with voltage, the crackling static around it roared to life, tiny sparks becoming roaring lightnings as it reared back a fist, the thunderbolts swirling through the air to surround its iron fist.

Before it swung it down into the water with a roar, its Thunder Punch splitting apart the surface with a booming clap!

A theatric, well practiced, evil laugh slowly rose in the bugcatcher's throat as Melody's entirely PG Curse rung through the sound systems.

"You heard the leader, Asura! It's time for the finale!" He said, grasping his straw hat whilst swiping his arm across the air dramatically.

The young man's eyes scoured the massive pool of water, the many frozen islands left in the wake of Lapras' efforts... And knew what to order next.

"Guess learning military history's bout to pay off..." He muttered to himself, holding out his arm towards Lapras. "March forward, Asura! Roost!"

The Ledian blinked, wondering what the hell his trainer was saying. How was he supposed about to be grounded on an island of ice, surrounded by water, and he wanted him to march-!? ...

"Ya get it, don't cha? 'Em Footholds."

The Ledian's eyes widened, taking in the islands before him, between him and the Lapras, before he flapped his wings sharply, his feet skidding backwards along the ice a full meter before he spun in place once, grinding to a halt in a hunched stance, legs coiled tightly under him as the roosts white glow covered his form.

But the energy was not channeled towards healing him.

The Lapras' final song rose with the music, a barrage of water sailing through the air towards the steadfast Ledian, his stance remaining utterly still as the torrent approached.

"Mach Punch!"

He burst into motion.

His legs pushed off the ice, the sheet of frost shattering under his heel as he hurtled atop the crashing wave, the crack of his body landing atop another island barely managing to go off before the snapping of more ice splintering filled the air.

Crack crack crack-!

He leapt from one frozen island to the next just as the waves threatened to sweep him away, the mach speed of his fist carrying him forward Faster and faster, prolonged by the flowing, repurposed energy of the roost, until he was just a blur-

And until he was suddenly in front of the Lapras, body tucking together and spinning through the air, feet touching the water's surface and sliding above it towards the much larger pokemon-!

A roar left the Ledian's tiny lungs as he swung his fist into Lapras' belly, releasing all of the accumulated force with a booming shockwave.

-Use Roost to gather energy.
-Use Mach Punch to speed up and then pawnch!
-Iron Fist ability is triggered, of course.

The display these two gym leaders brough to the eyes of hoenn was truly a dazzling sight. The impressive missile salvo styled barrage of blasts flying towards the ledian who slipped and slid past them all was an amazing sight. The barrage attack of sparkling aria destroyed each icey island it hit causing sparkles of light and ice to fly everywhere as the light from the spotlights refracted it to create more and more color in the arena.

However it was futile, ledian was just too quick for Lapras to keep up with. The barrage attack missed every single shot and ledian's punches found their mark as Mach punch collided right into lapra's belly. The shockwave slammed the immediate water from lapras away and a hole was left. lapras let out one last cry as it flew and skidded across the water, spinning out arriving right next to melody's side. The song stopped and Lapras seemingly appearing to stand up was instead quelled by melody's hand on it's head as she shook her head at it.

The lapras then knocked out as melody bent down next to it. "You did amazing lapras, im so proud of you sweetie." she said hugging it before she recalled it to her pokeball and approached the microphone stand "LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, YOUR WINNER. JOHN DOUGLAS SULLIVAN AND HIS POKEMON!" As victory music for John douglas began to play and the crowd let out an intense roar and cheer as confetti (that would dissolve in water and not harm the pokemon around the arena ofc) fell from above and Melody gave a round of appolause for the gym leader "You and your pokemon put on a dazzling performance, I felt your rhythm and teamwork with each other in every move. I'm very pleased to announce you have earned the rhythm badge John. Congratulations from me to you!" 

she said with a small smile on her face as the concrete slowly made it's way back inwards and closed and melody approached him and placed the pin on his jacket. "Do you have any words to the crowd and people of Hoenn?"

Confetti rained down upon the arena as Melody declared the battle over, the crowd's immense roar almost deafening as applause filled the building.

Asura roared as he held up his fists in the air, rearing back to bang them across his chest with a wide grin before slowly falling on his ass, sighing in relief.

"Had fun, huh?" Doug said as he approached, steps thudding over the concrete as he came to stand over the exhausted Ledian, grinning wide. "Glad to know; ya were amazing out there, lil' guy. Great job, as always. Let's get'cha some rest."

Returning the pokemon to his ball, Doug turned his gaze towards the approaching Melody, her words echoing across the Gym. A shiny, new badge was pinned to his jacket's lapel as the Gym Leader finished speaking, her dazzling smile and words filling his chest with pride, never one to shy away from honest praise.

"Thanks, Melody. For the wonderful battle, and for joining our ranks!" Doug said with a grin, offering his hand to Melody for a shake on (presumably live) TV and stream. "And I sure do."

Doug turned his gaze towards the crowd, grasping the badge on his lapel before peeling back his jacket, revealing another row of badges under it, and placing it amongst them, making for 6.

"kyle lopez, and all of you watching-!" He said, giving a sharp smile. "I'll see you again in Ever Grande!"
